We are a family of 5 living life in North Pole, Alaska! Where Santa Claus House is right down the street! TV, news, etc. is so negative. I come to youtube videos like this for a distraction, comfort, a smile or two, escape from the negativity and sadness in the world. We're blessed to have jobs and health. Prayers go to those who are sick and struggling.

I need everyone to pray for my oldest daughter she had a seizure this past Friday the gas down here 2.90 and it gets dark here around 4:30 5:00 and it stay dark 8 in the morning here in Indiana are you going to more blog after Christmas my family and I love you all

The 'fight' is just as much mental as it is physical. I have to admit, I loved it, the darkness. There is something so unique about Fairbanks and North Pole. Its so thoughtful what you do during the Xmas season for the people there SomersInAlaska. Big time Holiday spirit!

7:42a to 4:35p in Minnesota yesterday...I can't imagine 67 days of darkness, though the thought of it doesn't freak me out too much. Happy Christmas, Somers family - we are doing some random acts of kindness in between holing up with a newborn and it's been wonderful.

I hate this time of year, it reminds me of everything I don’t have, family! I just need some hope that one day I won’t be all on my own all of the time. At 44 I’m not sure this will ever happen. Thankful for the things I do have in my life, but there’s nothing like Christmas tor mind you of what you don’t have. Seeing families together makes me feel sad and lonely.

We had 8 hours and 26 minutes of daylight today (December 22) in Ocean Shores, Washington. I don’t have a problem with the dark because I was a scrub nurse in surgery on swing and night shift. Merry Christmas and God bless your dear family.🙏🏻✝️🎄

Oh my gosh, I love Ocean Shores! One day I hope to get a home there on the Canals. Homes on a canal system is something I thought was only in Florida for some reason lol. I went up to Quinault Resort & casino a few years back and stayed a few days and have been looking up homes there & dreaming ever since. Merry Christmas from Oregon!

I was so excited to see our daylight gaining here in southern Michigan too!! Yayyy!!!!! Thank you for sharing the past videos of the winter solstice skyline, I had forgotten about it, I did watch it at the time but it's been 2yrs. Thank you to all the Happy People's that sent the videos in. I loved it!! Loved the Candy Cane bombing that looked cold but fun. Glad to see the kids enjoying it that's the most fun seeing the excitement on their faces! Thank you guys for sharing all these fun things!!!! Yes you should sleep in the tent outside if it's not too cold or going to be too much firewood. I am sure everyone would have lots of fun!!

One thing that helps me get through polar night is getting together with friends and having dinners. We alternate who is cooking and also gave game nights when we can. It makes us look forward to the get togethers rather than the darkness outside. I also try to look at the horizon when there is some light because there is a lot of beauty in the colors you don't see in the sky the rest of the year.

Sleeping in the tent…well it depends on the temperature. The kids might really have fun, and look at Audrey…not too many more years to make memories with her. She’s probably going to be gone before you know it. I guess I’m saying is do it if the weather cooperates.

Without periods of darkness, we can not learn to appreciate the light. So I've learned to embrace the darkest parts of the year and myself to fully become one. I use this slowest time of the year to heal and inner soul searching. I'm a very seasonal person and these last two years I've learned so much about myself in the darkest moments as much I learn with the light.

Shortest day of the year here was sunrise at 7:53 am and sunset at 430 pm, 8 hours and 37 minutes and I find that super depressing. I couldn't imagine what you guys are going through.😮. I'm looking forward to sunrise at 4:30 am and sunset at 10 pm next June 😊 I'm on the East Coast of Canada!

The price of gas in our area of NC currently ranges from $2.95 at Costco/Sam's Club to $3.18 at all the other area stations. The cost has actually been dropping here since Thanksgiving. One interesting fact I have noticed from your Costco runs is that the prices there are the same as our prices here.

Standing out in the cold pumping gas makes me so grateful that here in Jersey, we only have full service gas stations, it’s actually illegal here to pump our own gas. It’s nice not to have to stand in the cold lol.

We have 0 sunlight right now. The sun is gone for 2 months up here. It's no problem! Cheers from Northern Norway 😊✌ Edit: as far as tips to handle darkness I'd say go outside! Doesn't matter if it's dark or what weather it is. There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing😊

I was stationed at Fort Wainwright for my 3 years in the military. It was quite the challenge to make it through the darkness. I had experience in that area though as I grew up in Montana my whole life. But Alaska darkness is another level of challenge. Vitamin D, happy lights, and continuous on my staying busy and occupied. Here in the hills of Tennessee where I live the gas is 2.93 gallon at Murphy's. That's a gas station that's part of Walmart. Oh my goodness, how fun!!! Its always nice to find a little something like that on the windshield. It looked like you guys had a ball doing it too! I don't know that the darkness would bother me as much. I'm a frontline worker who does 12 hour night shifts. Then again I might be thinking I'm late for work if its always dark! LOL On a serious note, stress is a real thing no matter the job one does. Finding your happy place and then getting in it for even a few minutes a day does help MASSIVELY. Thank you guys for being a HUGE bright spot in a lot of peoples' day. Including mine.
