@@justind4615 That report of the blocks moving before the accident was made by a single person who wasn't present there at the time of happening. Those caps are not a tight fit all (you can also see on the footage the cubes not lining up), otherwise the crane couldn't be precise enough to insert/remove them. They are not pressure tight thus no pressure to induce a lifting force, could be built up below them. Lots of story elements believed to be true (due to soviet officials putting the blame on the personnel but can be proven wrong by contradictions of the pieces of false staements) were taken over in the HBO series for the sake of the narrative, that have been known to be inaccurate/false years before the time of shooting the series. While the series as a story, a tribute to the people having dealt with the accident, can hold _some_ water, has fictional elements (for ease of storytelling) and sadly, lacks due diligence in some key points. It's a vehicle for dark green activist level of BS (esp. in the last episode), suffering from hindsight effect and factual mistakes that only takes 5 mins of looking up on the internet.
