The heat tiles look like they are venting gas. I assume that is just the vibration letting the condensation "fog" make its way through the gaps in the tiles as they shake.

curious as to the smell of the rocket engines under fire? plus the roar? I've always enjoyed the roar of engines as well as the certain smells from different fuels, like gas, diesel, jet, helo, nascar, nhra dragsters, motorcycles, race boats, large carriers. hope to add rockets to my list someday.

🤔 Hard to say, was there a flameout in some of the engines or was it controlled shutoff, that caused that uneven burn in the end of the test. Nevertheless, there was an uneven burn during the last 0.5..1 sec. Tilting towards controlled shutdown and bad mixing of propellant/oxygen not right in the end of the burn due the low pressure after the shutoff.

Moving to the test stand with flame trench over at Massey’s will make a huge difference. The shock waves it’s being hit with sitting low on concrete is far worse than what starship will experience sitting 23 stories up, atop a booster.
@HarryNicNicholas
@HarryNicNicholas Місяць тому
someone else's idea, but won't it be easier to put pins on the ship that can slot into receptors on the chopsticks rather than trying to get pins on the chopsticks mm perfect catching the ship? pins can slide into a notch - it takes quite a bit of fussing to get the two point lift for the cranes....
@thomashayden804
@thomashayden804 Місяць тому
It would be, but those would be sticking out during reentry and cause issues. They'd need to design them to fold in during flight and then fold out before landing/lifts

Sometimes (such as the time SN8 broke it's hydraulic systems and used its burst disk) it's not, but they've largely built the pad to be strong enough to handle it at this point. Still a decent amount of refurbishment between ships though
@TaurusSpace
