Starship gave us quite a show during the first flight test of a fully integrated Starship (S24) and Super Heavy rocket (B7) from Starbase in Texas.
On April 20, 2023 at 8:33 a.m. CT, Starship successfully lifted off from the orbital launch pad for the first time. The vehicle cleared the pad and beach as Starship climbed to an apogee of ~39 km over the Gulf of Mexico - the highest of any Starship to-date.
With a test like this, success comes from what we learn, and we learned a tremendous amount about the vehicle and ground systems today that will help us improve on future flights of Starship.

@@serpentclan9720 No, knowledge is for sure not the problem. ESA for example is building the service module for SLS, which worked flawlessly during the first SLS and Orion flight. Also the Ariane program was a big success and Ariane 5 a great reliable rocket. Even the unmanned ATV was a great module to deliver supplies to the ISS, that thing was very close to a manned vehicle. But the many countries which all want to participate and make decisions are somewhat unflexible and not as agile as one company can be. Also there seems to be some kind of lack and enthusiasm to manned exploration of space.

That's the thing, it was SUPPOSED to fail. Or, at least release. The flip was intended to replace the need for separation charges. Still, off the pad, clear of the tower, through Max Q...there's nothing to be disappointed about with that. It didn't lift off, it pushed the planet out of it's way.
@michaelbuckers
@michaelbuckers 9 місяців тому
@@jamesbuchanan4414 The flip was because the booster lost its gimbaling actuator fluid and the steering engines got stuck in their current angle (it's why they switched to electric gimbaling). Oh my gosh, the view from the ground with Starship in the background going up at 1:08 is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. That's straight out of a movie but it's real life. What a time to be alive. I'm glad I can see all the launches living in Florida.
