On Wednesday, December 9, Starship serial number 8 (SN8) lifted off from our Cameron County launch pad and successfully ascended, transitioned propellant, and performed its landing flip maneuver with precise flap control to reach its landing point. Low pressure in the fuel header tank during the landing burn led to high touchdown velocity resulting in a hard (and exciting!) landing.
Thank you to all the locals supporting our efforts in Cameron County and beyond. Congratulations to the entire Starship and SpaceX teams on today’s test! Serial number 9 (SN9) is up next - Mars, here we come!

Better work on that landing though. Starship could be something quite special if they can fix it. I'll admit I was a Starship skeptic, but maybe this crazy thing could actually work with some improvements and more development. Remarkable.

@@woodstockjon420 since they managed to relight both 'failed' engines for the landing burn, and since the final working ascend-engine is the one that wasn't relighted for landing, I think it is safe to say we don't know enough of the flight plan to know which parts failed and which were a success. Well, except for the ending, of course :D

@@justdadstuff5171 actually we know, Elon said that engines did great, the issue was low pressure at the methane header tank, so it just didn't burn enough fuel, and by having it rich in hot oxigen the flame had gone green (the oxigen reacted with copper from the exhaust linings, most probably) everything else was a success, just a header tank we are quite confident that sn9 will stick the landing

That's not quite true. But they committe-design the rockets for 10-15 years before maiden so nothing could ever go wrong and only update the design after tragical failures such as Apollo 13 or the SPS Disasters. SpaceX moves fast and is not afraid of failures. Note than when astronauts are involved like on Crew Dragon it also takes them a lot longer to be safe.

SN15 did the first successful landing but SN8 is still my favorite, along with SN5, maybe. I still remember how I locked my eyes to some pixels on the screen to see if the rocket was moving or aborting. I felt many different emotions together when I confirmed that the rocket lifted off. "Alright, now it passed the point of no return", "can it still abort the test by any chance, like landing immediately without going high", "what happens if engines fail while flying". Then came the meco1, confusing me along with every fan watching. I actually thought meco1 could be intentional and meco2 almost confirmed it. I had no negative emotions when it did an RUD. I was so happy. Following tests were also fun but SN8 is special for me. Other RUDs actually made me sad, since I had more expectations.

@@thomasboese3793 For sure. We could have been a lot farther along. 'm in my 30's and I really hope that I get to see the first people on mars. I live in melbourne florida and get so excited to watch the launches. It never gets old and I always drop whatever I'm doing and watch in awe. I actually have a savings account that I put 5-10k a year into in the hope that one year I could have enough to hitch a ride on a rocket. If Elon Musk keeps it up It could be as little as 100-200k to take a trip to orbit. I don't even care about the risk. I am willing to die just to make that trip.

@@nicholasricer9687 You may want to look up a small but very helpful company to help you learn to grow your money, The Greatest Business on Earth. www.GBEMembers.com They will take you by the hand and teach you to "paper-trade" commodity futures contracts. Once you have proven to yourself you can profit from the markets, then you trade real money and yes, the IRS will happily take a slice off the top four times a year. In the long run, it sure beats the flat interest rates the banks have.

@@thomasboese3793 oh cmon man. I thought we were getting along and you hit me with some forex type of scam crap. I know how to invest thanks but no thanks. I ain’t getting no bank flat interest. A comfortable 4-7 percent through my accountant. Anyone who is selling a course on how to make money is straight up lying to you. Why would someone sell a course for essentially pennies if their process works? Its because it doesn't and selling the course is the real way they make money. I've been around the block I know whats up. Now instead of being in awe of this amazing feat of engineering you use it as an opportunity to try and sucker someone you think has money. Pathetic.
