Same. 6 months ago I got the steam deck and have been playing in constantly. After the oled was anounced and lcd price dropped drastically. I felt really bad and wish I had waited. The thing is, I didn’t regret those first 6 months of playing it. While I do not regret getting it early, if I had known, I would have waited for the oled version 🥲

Thanks For watching! I wanted to add one more thing that the OLED has an advantage of over the LCD that I forgot to mention in the video! The Steam buttons (Bottom left and right buttons right above the speakers on the steam deck) have been improved with their tactile response and overall feel MUCH better to press compared to the LCD. Sorry I forgot to mention that!

They say the anti glare 1TB isn't worth it over the 512gb I have a 64gb steamdeck but swaying towards the OLED for mainly storage,screen and battery

Little correction: The 5500 MTransfer/s vs. 6400 MTransfer/s is the RAM bandwidth and has nothing to do with WiFi or download speeds. But it helps the otherwise identical CPU and GPU to stall less often and increases the overall performance a bit.

Im torn between the two models I would mostly play it docked on my 50 inch tv Plus i work from home i don't really travel. Would it be better to just buy the LCD?

Thanks for the in depth Comparison! I believe you can launch both games at the same time without issue if one is in Offline mode. Just a suggestion.

I’ve had my deck for a year and half, saw this one and bought I pretty much instantly. I know it’s technically not a steam deck 2 but it kinda is. Plus I’m upgrading from the 64 gig model with slower storage, so for me I feel like it’s definitely worth the upgrade cuz everything is improved. Regular deck is sick but this one is definitely miles better

The performance difference in GTAV was because on LCD Deck you had it capped at 60FPS in quick access menu. OLED was "faster" only because its screen caps at 90Hz and it was not always able to reach that target. I'm pretty sure that OLED really is faster if only by a few frames but in order to see this difference you'd have to toggle "Disable Frame Limit" on LCD Deck, so that it processes as many frames as it realistically can - just like capped at 90Hz OLED does

You are correct! I also noticed that somehow on my LCD the texture quality for GTA V was set to normal and on the OLED it was at very high. So technically the OLED still performed better because the LCD would dip below 60 quite often where as the OLED stayed above 60 pretty consistently. Either way, the OLED does produce a bit better performance but not enough to say that alone is worth an upgrade.

during the lag test on the screen you were moving your finger like twice the distance in the same amount of time on the lcd vs the oled... just pointing that out

so i had a 512 and 64gb og steam deck. The 512 looked more washed out and had more reflection with a clear jsaux screen protector vs the 64gb with the anti reflective jsaux protector had barely any reflection and looked much better

I don't have a Steam Deck. I do own both a regular Switch and an OLED Switch and I use both of them regularly. OLED has a better display for sure but I don't mind the look of LCD either. I don't plan to buy a Steam Deck now, but I would like to own one in the future. For now I am content with what I have.

The faster charging, at least in my experience, is less about getting to 100%, and more about getting to about 80%. All batteries slow their charging significantly as they get closer to being fully charged, but I notice my OLED charges from lower percentages to, like I said, about 80%, MUCH faster than the LCD. From there, it slows down greatly on both at the 80% mark which is where my LCD "makes up" a lot of the time, so if this is true in general, it might make more sense to not go for a full charge if you're just wanting enough battery to play for a while.

Bro please help me out . I am an engineering student who goes to college . I have a lot of travel and commuting . I found the steam deck at 400 dollars (LCD) . And I ll put an egpu using the m.2 dock . Also the Rog ally Z1 extreme at under 600 dollars ( no egpu ). I couldn't find any laptop in this range with such impressive capabilities , battery life and portability . I have seen people use autocad , blender and play games on steam deck . So I think it will suffice for my purpose . So should I get the ally or steam deck ?

Trade in LOL. Steam ran the discount last summer making room for a BUNCH of OLEDs being created, meaning they sold all you cheap decks knowing you'd miss out on the OLED OR make you waste double money. It's a dirty move for not telling us OLED is dropping next very month. And you're saying allow for a trade in WTF they don't want your old junk back in storage just conned you in buying their junk not selling and emptying their warehouse storage!!! 😂😂😂

What draws me to OLEDs is the true black. IIRC OLED black are actually the pixel more or less turning off, vs an lcd, which is showing "black" light. You notice this when the screen is showing black color, on an oled, it's deeper and on an lcd, it still looks like light coming thru. Once you go oled, it's hard to go back to lcd.

Still surprised people are pressing the paddle buttons incorrectly. Yes you can squeeze them from the sides, but for easy presses you're meant to press the small part on the back of the Deck. The sides are harder to avoid accidental presses, meanwhile you're not gonna be pressing the back accidentally so it's super easy to click there.

@kraziekd I have both and the Oled is just mesmerising, best screen I have ever seen. The issue with legion go is it is great for some games but if you truly want 2k resolution it will never be smooth enough. The OS is a huge difference though and if you like to emulate game I don't think anything touches the Deck. Where the Legion go wins is if you like to play games like Fifa (anti cheat) or CSGO as both games run really smoothly. Once you see the Deck screen though it is hard to look at anything else. It's not only Oled it has HDR as well. Stunning.

i found a 64 gb LCD deck refurbished at gamestop, so i bought it for $265. i know it's much less powerful. i happen to have a SSD that i can put in it. Do you think that was a good deal? i currently do not have a SD. I do have a legion go, but i am going to return it.

That was a great deal! And trust me, the OLED is not that much more powerful than the LCD version. It's just more efficient so battery life is better and it can help in certain games with performance. However the LCD still can play every game the OLED can and it still runs just fine! Enjoy!

I have the LCD Steam Deck, the basic 64gb model, and had a 512gb micro SD card. Finally, a year later, i now have a 1tb micro sd and a 1tb ssd. I bought an anti glare screen protector for it, a pack of 2 in fact, and it still has the first one on it to this day 😅 i noticed the bezels are smaller on the new one

I want the OLED, displays are the one thing that’s lacking in all my setups. On my desktop I have an old Apple Cinema LCD Display, because I just hate how ugly most displays are, and the silver metal slab looks so pleasing visually. But, I play the deck so much and I’ve already upgraded the shell to white and the SSD to 1tb that the investment seems too great to upgrade again

Just utilize the new vibrant display update on the lcd deck if you have that one already, of course the oled is better but it’s better than running out to spend the extra 550 if you can’t.

Loved the video, but why not put one of the steam decks in airplane mode or offline mode to test single player games? Forza obviously wouldn’t work but I’m sure it would’ve made some of the process easier so you can actually play the same game on 2 devices

Regret my LCD 512GB version now. Resale prices are horrible at the moment. Get less than half the price of the OLED and mines only been used for three hours max.

I wouldn't regret that purchase! The LCD is still a wonderful system that can play every game the OLED can. Yes, the OLED is worth the upgrade if you want to spend the money but is it a needed upgrade? No. My wife still has her 64gb LCD and loves it and doesn't see a reason to upgrade since she mainly uses it docked anyway haha

I actually think even with the camera you can clearly see the oled screen looks just that much nicer! The audio wasn’t big for me, I think the oled is definitely better but the Lcd anti-etched being 200 dollars cheaper than it was before and 200 cheaper than the oled one might sway people like me who want to save a few bucks more 😅(For me It was mostly that glass I wanted, I’m definitely sticking with the LCD but it’s great of valve to just make a overall better upgrade)

Was it the won't charge/turn on thing? I have read several reports of people easily fixing that by just taking off the back and repeating the battery cable. Just wanted to comment that for future readers with that issue who are comfortable opening their deck up.

They do not have the same spec RAM. The OLED model RAM peaks at 6400Mhz whereas the LCD model is 5500Mhz. Also, if you're a competitive gamer, you're probably not playing on a Steam Deck.

Use a 100w charger like I do instead of the included 65w charger. Makes a world of a difference!

I have the 512 LCD and 512 OLED and I’ve been thinking of sending the OLED back, seems like I use my LCD more because Batocera emulation isn’t quite there on OLED. Was thinking of trying emudeck I just don’t have the time to do all my own work…

My personal policy with entertainment tech is to skip the first hardware refresh. Gabe even stated himself a worthy "2" is a ways away. There may even be more refreshes before then. LCD still looks good on 3.5 and I'll sell at a loss regardless.

@@VicariousNick55Both have 16gb LPDDR5 RAM but the LCD runs at 5500mhz while on the OLED it runs on 6400mhz.. Not much for a CPU but on an APU like the steam deck which relies heavily on the speed of the memory for better performance.? It's a significant upgrade..

@@VicariousNick55yeah, but depends on how you look at it.. 2 to 3 frames more on a game running higher than 60fps is a bit meh.. But to a game struggling to reach that sweet 30fps or the magic number 40 on the deck.? That couple of frames to me is significant..

For the fans the switch has them on top which is a great way to do it! I've never had an issue with overheating. I'm getting the steam deck oled hopefully next week. And I'm really excited to have more ways to play all my games!

I cant belive people are still saying this- No, the eched dispay does not effect brigness, contrast, or color. The only think it does is defuse your studio lights to make them less noticable. There is no "haze" on the screen thats your studio lights being diffused dude 😭

Even without my studio lights I can easily see a difference from my wife's LCD 64GB steam deck and my LCD 512gb Steam Deck with the Etched display. Unless you have both to compare to side-by-side you might not notice much of an issue with it. I prefer the glossy display on the OLED and my wife's Steam Deck over the etched (anti galre) display on my LCD Steam Deck. Is it a deal breaker by any means? No. And I made that apparent in the video. However, is it noticeable? YES. Thanks for watching

@@VicariousNick55Yeup you are correct. I do not care for etched displays esp with Oled. Oled shows better in gloss. Dave 2D shows this in his video. Any type of light diffusing tech will be noticeable. Gloss or loss haha.

One thing I could say is that for those that prefer gloss but wanted the sd limited edition they could easily just order a gloss display and swap it themselves or have ifix it do it. Also if you haven’t tried it, put a tempered glass screen protector over the etched display and it negates the effect of and looks like a gloss panel.

@VicariousNick55 Taki udon made a whole video comparing the lcd to the eched display and found litteraly no difference between the two, they look identical. I really dont know what to tell you- we have tested this over and over, the glares defuse, and if you dont want that that's fine, but in a controlled environment with little to no room light interference, there is no difference. Like objectively

If that what you like then ok but the Oled screen is better looking, I own both 512 LCD and OLED, OLED look way better you need to see it in person the cam will never show how it really looks. If you want a LCD then go for that one, it is your choice don't need to pick what everyone wants.
