I love Paul. But I disagree with him when he says that FSU is going to be another TCU if they get into the playoff. Florida State got some dogs with a lot of fight in them. And they have better facilities as well. The backup of Jordan Travis did excellent and then make no mistakes when his number was called after the Travis injury. Me personally I don't think the loser of the SEC championship and the Big 10 championship should still be invited to the playoff. Even if it's a nail biter, they'll leave teams like a potential Oregon, Washington, or possible soon-to-be Big 12 champion Texas out of the playoff picture. Every game matters. 👏

What if Oklahoma State beats Texas in the Big 12? We have seen these crazy things happen in the past, between the last game, and the Conference Championship. It will all work itself out. No need to guess.

So ready for these conversations to be over. This is one part of the NFL I like way better. It’s always clear cut who should and shouldn’t make the playoffs.

This season is the perfect precursor to playoff expansion. Maybe everything falls into place at the last moment, but probably not.

This is a prime example when the CFP is currently and never been a tournament. It’s always been an invitational and will stay that way until it expands next season. These arguments just straight up sicken me and I can’t wait for this to end. Conference winners should be, FLAT OUT. Then take the next best teams after that and have that make up the tourney field.

An undefeated P5 Conference Champion has NEVER been left out of the CFP and never will be. Bama can very well make it in, but it won't be at the expense of an undefeated team. It's really that simple. The CFP committee has shown us over the last DECADE that it's always about the 4 most DESERVING teams more than necessarily the 4 "best". That's why TCU, Cincinnati, and even Washington have gotten in over the years. If it was only about BEST then at least 2 of them probably don't make it in. So why would the committee all the sudden completely change how they evaluate the teams in the LAST year of the 4 team playoff. Makes no sense. Doggy is right, Finebaum is wrong per usual. No point to even play the games if you can win all your games, win one of the 5 best conferences, and STILL not make it in. In that case, might as well just evaluate it completely on recruiting class, talent, metrics, skill positions, and then throw the 4 best teams in that way so we can save ourselves an entire regular season.

First of all, I would like to say that this season is a microcosm of why a 6+ team playoff is needed in college football. I'm happy for expansion (I believe it's 12 starting next year, if I'm not mistaken), but I wish it would have come a year early, because there are many teams this season that look deserving to compete on a national stage for a shot at the national title. That being said, we have a 4 team playoff now. That's the reality. Here we are. With the reality that we're facing, the results of the game have to matter. Essential caveat: ****Barring utter & complete chaos****** Michigan v Ohio State is a playoff game, winner moves on, loser is out. Washington v Oregon is a playoff game. Oregon went out and played in an incredibly tough environment, the two teams were essentially even on the field, and Washington was able to win in large part because of that home field advantage. The rematch on a neutral site for the conference championship should decide who gets in and who doesn't get in, in arguably the second best conference in college football. Georgia obviously controls their own destiny. I don't believe that should necessarily be the case with Alabama. Texas not only beat Alabama, they beat Alabama unequivocally, on the road in Tuscaloosa, winning by 2 scores, taking a knee to end the game. It wasn't a nail-bitter, it wasn't in question. That has to mean something. If Texas wins out, that game has to be taken under consideration. I agree that teams have the right to improve over time, but we have to reward Texas for going on the road and beating Alabama soundly within the scope of an argument about the best 4 teams in college football. That being said, Alabama going out and beating one of the best teams in college football should also be recognized, should they beat Georgia. If they didn't have a chance to beat Georgia, I think they would be viewed as firmly out of this conversation. Unfortunately, within the operations of a 4 team playoff, things like resume, eye test, and injuries all have to be taken into account. Without their QB, I don't think Florida State is one of the best four teams in college football. Especially given all of the undefeated teams right now, and some really good 1 loss teams with excellent resumes. Obviously they can go out and prove me wrong the next couple of weeks against Florida and in the ACC title game against Louisville, in which they don't just need to win, they need to win soundly. In a perfect system, Florida State definitely is deserving to compete for a national title if they go undefeated. Unfortunately for them, we still exist within the operations of a 4 team playoff, and the antithesis of a perfect storm contextualized the end of this season for them, with a bunch of really good teams surrounding them in the rankings and their star QB getting hurt. Again, this is a perfect example of why we need an expanded playoff field, and that is coming to us next season, I believe. So if I were on the committee, this is how I would be approaching this: 1) Winner of OSU v Michigan - IN 2) Winner of Oregon v Washington - IN 3) Winner of Georgia v Alabama - IN Battle for number 4 spot (in no specific order): 1) Texas - if they win out, they theoretically should be in, given that they beat Alabama on the road. 2) A 1 loss Georgia, should they lose to Alabama. They theoretically should be in, given that they've won 456 mf games in a row & the last two national titles. 3) Florida State, who if they come out and convince the committee that they're 85% of the team that they were with their starting QB, should also theoretically be in. My vote in that circumstance would probably be for Florida State. On the field results should matter. However, if they come out and barely beat Louisville and beat Florida by only 9 or 10, I think my vote would be for Texas. I just think going on the road against Bama and winning, with Georgia losing to Bama in that same scenario, should count for something. However, I do think there are arguments to be made about any one of these teams getting in within this scenario, and I wouldn't be upset, as long as the committee honors the winners of the 3 games I have listed above (provided there isn't unforeseen utter chaos.)

In this case they can play 4 vs 5 as a qualifier for CFP, have Washington vs Florida state at a neutral venue and decide the 4th seed. Every year they have controversy for rankings!
