@@pistenqueen The official video from 1985 is a masterpiece and a timely reminder with the symbolism of the clock on the wall with time running out for the world to save humanity. Hopefully they’ll re-release the original on ITunes and donate the proceeds for humanitarian relief in Ukraine which would generate millions for a good cause
@Sawyernilsson2 роки тому
Totally. I mean, when the song was written, they had a lot of problems with Russia, and I it has been good to see Sting’s response to the devastation ie his new release of the song. He has truly been an upstanding figure given everything going on. Though I must say, the video owner having a link to when the song begins totally defeats the purpose of the song. You have to have the backstory. Anyway, all this to say, I agree

I love this song but I don't believe this song really captures the tone that the original song did that fits its context. This is far too upbeat for something that has such terrifying potential for the fate of humanity. The original track was terrifying and felt heavy and bleak. I really did enjoy the origin story to the song that was told. Fascinating.

@zorglub667Рік тому
Hmmm. Its well executed obviously, but I fear the songs original esprit is drowned in the arrangers oberambition here. Way too many things going on at the same time. The fatalistic, somewhat monotone darkness of the originals strings (well, "strings") was exactly what gave the song its haunting appeal of inevitability. Seriously, thou must not replace that with playful pizzicatos and harp glissandi. That's just... Not. Right. And the reharmonization is downright disrespectful. Don't try to one up the original composition. Not nice. Imagine how powerfully dark this song could be if an actual orchestra went all in on recreating the clockwork ish sound of fate of the original. With the instrumental interludes as a depressed, quietly menacing unison line. That's what I came here for. Instead, this unfortunately is "look how many small extra ideas I can stuff into 5 minutes ", a little bit of everything, and might as well have been part of a mildly scary Walt Disney witch sequence. One big idea is almost always better than 28374 small ideas. This is clearly such a case. Still, such a great song. And peace for Ukraine.
@AB-xq2iy2 роки тому
It is unfortunate that Sting insists on performing this bloated and deafening version of the beautiful song he wrote years ago. I went back to the original official video and enjoyed every bit of it. On this recetn occasion it would have been wise perhaps to sing the sing in a simple manner without the philharmonic orchestra - perhaps some modest playback.
