I just tested this and could not reproduce any of these problems. I could zoom out to the entire globe, I could scroll east and west as much as I wanted including east from NZ to the US, and I could easily see rides I've done in places I've only seldom visited.

I'm seriously amazed how they managed to make one of their best-working features significantly worse then decided to push it out anyway.

I want to see some sort of filtering between a bicycle commute and a bicycle workout. Would be useful given that planning routes based on those categories are generally vastly different goals.

Hello Shane, some time ago you made a video about Steava with your suggestions of features. I would really like to see the following things: 1. virtual races are races! I would like to be able to mark them as races again! This feature was just killed by Strava about 2 years ago I think. 2. a way to "sort" the activities on the dashboard into groups for favourites, friends, pros, virtual active, commuters, runners, virtual races, real races, ecc. I use heat maps everywhere I go to plan safe routes. This new update has really effected my ability to do that, and honestly I don't trust it to make routes in its current state. WOW!

Heatmaps are great for OpenStreetMaps edits.

Quite sad that this is the only place where dark mode exists on the entire site. At least its still there but now made it even harder to use? Can't even extend to anything else Strava? Not even the segments map has that option. One major standout thing I am noticing with this update is road names!!! It is finally here and on all maps! It wasn't there for me when I was using the segment feature to find local areas to ride in before but now it is in there, don't know if it was because of this update or recent but that is a major improvement! This going to make it a lot less cumbersome and have less cross-referencing with regular map applications so that is a major plus since you aren't just going to a segment located on X Road when you've also got to take A B and C roads to get to it. The location names/markers is also nice and seems to capture the important details of parks, public utilities(parking, restrooms, water station, bike stations etc.) coffee stops. The water boundaries are also more clearly highlighted if that is your forte or even elevation peaks (that is somehow hard coded listed as meters mind you) if that interests you. I am honestly impressed the extra mile was taken into consideration for this, only thing I'd recommend here is to make it dynamic instead of being hard coded into the map itself so that it can be quick-linked to a website or having seasonal features being updated like if a restroom is closed for a season or changing elevation from meters to feet. At least the painting scroll captures Hawaii in the far left side, not doing a roller-style scroll for a world map is travesty enough but excluding Hawaii from the US or NZ from AUS would have been baffling on top of that. Hey, good first start hopefully there is some additional refinement coming to it afterwards with Strava's momentum with their increase in updates. Wouldn't mind seeing the other maps on the site get some love as well like the segments page, making Watopia a dedicated map instead of defaulting to 0,0 on activities and making the entire site be dark mode compatible! Using inverted colors or a smart dark mode application doesn't work for Strava.

2:18 this is beta testing, llama you're the beta tester 😊. Somewhere, in a Strava conference room the day after this video is posted the Strava Developers streaming your video and taking notes 😄.

Maybe we cycle too much or commute to much by bike, but the heatmap is useless in Flanders. There seem to be two 'heats'; local neighbourhood no one passes through and every other road. A major, busy road with a horrible bicycle path has the same heat as a car free, wide and popular bicycle path next to a river or channal. Seems to me like they need to rescale things or add extra levels for really popular paths. For example: currently the max density might be 50 rides per day, whilst many actual good segments will have hundreds.

Switch to "dark" map style and "orange" personal heatmap color. Helps a lot with visibility. Honestly, I preferred the options open to the side. Desktops are a different size and orientation compared to a mobile phone - seems like the two versions should be designed differently with that in mind. It was convenient to toggle options instead of accessing another menu. Using the dropdown at the top of the screen adds an extra step and separates it from the map style options by *miles* (in terms of screen location). It feels like sliding from Australia to the US.

Strava is really doing some dumb things *don't get me started on the idiotic Motivational notices that are constantly popping up, and yet ignoring the major feature requests people have been asking for for years (like Dark-Mode)

Here’s a suggestion: better route management. The ability to sort routes by geographic affinity, distance, elevation, frequency of use would be great. Right now, it’s just a bucket of routes that you have to root around in.

I'm truly disappointed where Strava is allocating their (apparently very limited) development resources. Coming back to Heatmap changes - on my 4k screen in full Zoom-Out I can see whole Africa, most of Asia and Australia. So apparently this is not a hard limit but some problem with dynamic scaling boundaries being calculated incorrectly.

SUGGESTION: if you haven't already, should make a video about managing multiple bikes on garmin/strava, but also on devices like Edge/Bolt recently got an additional bike, and went on a black hole figuring that out.

My biggest problem with Strava maps and using Strava for creating routes is the lack of easily readable road information, specifically, what type of roads I'm looking at. I still mostly use ridewithgps to plan my routes since it uses OSM maps (with a bunch of other map types available). With Strava, the paved roads are white and very minor and/or non-paved grey, but it becomes a guessing game as to the type of road and how much traffic the road will likely have. Some of the best paved roads in my area are thin little grey lines on the Strava map that you'd never see unless you zoom super close in. Makes the mapping and routing fairly useless, at least to me. Strava, give me the option of OSM maps in your UI, or at least color code the roads a bit.

This is almost usable. Sadly, it will have areas restricted or even removed from view.

The biggest loss to me is that you used to be able to scroll out and a numeric number would appear over the areas you've run more than once. it helped me tally the amount of runs I've done locally and showed globally all the places I've run. It was one of my favorite features of any map full stop. I was quite proud of it. Now I don't know why I would bother to show anyone. It is a real loss.

I don't actually understand what this video is saying. I get that you're unhappy but you don't explain what the issue is. What's the issue when you are clicking backwards and forwards around the colour options? What's opacity in this context? I've used strava since about 2013 but have never used this function! 🤷
