I can remember the last time i found a piston in my oil drain pain. I lay under the car for three days trying to figure out how it got through that small hole. It finally dawned on me. Oil is slick so it slipped right through.

It normally only happens 4 times. If it happens more, that means the engine is making new pistons. All you need to do is harvest them and sell them for profit!

This happened to me last week. Customer brought in a 6.7 powerstoke overdue. I drained the oil, found large metal chunks in it. That looked like the end ball of the pushrod. Informed the customer. He said it's running great for now. Don't worry about it. Then brought it back a couple weeks later and says now it's knocking.

@@u4ia612 I schedule the appointment for the shop to do it because they can rotate my tires too for like five bucks extra instead of me spending half an hour on it and an hour on the oil. But they can only schedule about a week out which translates to between seven hundred and a thousand miles between when I call in and when they get it.

@@chadvanryn1327 I only had the valve cover off, to do the timing chain it would be a lot more work, And the valve cover took me like 5mins to take off. I did it at work on my day off so my car had to be running in an hour or two. Most timing chain jobs you just pull the engine out its usually the fastest way. Im not sure if you know what it takes to replace a timing chain but it is neither cheap nor easy🤣 I dont have a subaru by way maybe its easier because its right at the front. I have a 2.5 mazda 3 and most shops quote about 6hrs for the job.

Had a Camry come in the shop one day, engine was making an awful ruckus. Got it on the lift and popped the plug, out came about half a quart of sludge with the forbidden glitter. Told the lead tech, he said go grab that rotella downstairs. Engine sounded like new, but we still have yet to see that car come back.
