Man, your craftsmanship is amazing. I do have my doubts that the little gearbox will survive over 100k rpm, though.
@LemmingGoBoom
@LemmingGoBoom 5 років тому
Also the torque demands being placed on that final spur gear will be significant.
@ningen1980
@ningen1980 5 років тому
@@LemmingGoBoom The spur gear should be okay. If it had more teeth, that could cause problems (finer teeth = less ability to handle torque.) I also like the use of inverted can of air to freeze the pin for the gear. I've done the same to fit control arm bushings on cars. Granted it was liquid nitrogen to shrink the bushings before pressing them into the control arms. Same principle, though. Also works for installing pistons into engines.

Thanks for the flashback. Saw the canned air and was immediately taken back to a one off a full size Transit Rail Car Simulator, AKA: train flat car. It was mounted to the floor with 6 4in OD pins press fit into 6 8in OD rings. We had to use liquid nitrogen to shrink the pins down as they were a press fit and never meant to move again. And of course being professionals as well as the first time we employed such a technique we had to test it...... on dam near everything. Including someone's lunch
