Every phase I’ve gone through of listening of this, there’s a different song I have to obsess about. This time it’s Few. That organ scale bit.

'Susumu Yokota has always created readily accessible work; chipper melodies and predictable rhthyms weave their way along to natural conclusions with little unexpected happening inbetween: perfect techno pop music. On Cat, Mouse And Me he does this but to a wonderfully stunning conclusion - instead of disposable music, this album is filled with a deep warmth and depth served via repetition. The looped melodies are here, but have a melancholy edge. The rhythms don't excite, but lull you into a head-nodding trance. None of the tracks are particularly "difficult" listening, rather all are almost as immediately engaging as they are durable. There isn't a whole lot new to experience with repeat listens, but what is done here is done shockingly well. I don't know if it is dance music, per se (you could mix it for a dancefloor but it really doesn't have much oomph to it!), more of a headphone or coffeehouse music. Play it in unfamiliar company, though, and someone will ask you what it is. It is difficult to get a better compliment than that, I find.' - Discogs user

I found out about Susumu Yokota only a few days ago and I am amazed by his genius work.

Took me this exact album's length to clean and vacuum the house. Awesome :)

Why are great japanese artists passing away so young? Rei Harakami, Susumo Yokota and Nujabes to name few died too early :/ Sad

The bass mix is amazing.

"One Way" is my go-to on this album for that good ol' dance/house. But ofc for "favorite song" on this album, A LOT of these songs compete for that. Especially "River Side", "Ceramic Flower", "Cat, Mouse and Me", "From", and "Middle Finger". I love this whole album.

I got this album as an advanced copy (for a college radio station) back in my university days; listening to it always brings me back to those wistful days strolling around campus with my Discman playing this. It sounds as good - and just as teasingly melancholy, at points - today as it did then. Marvelously underappreciated album, sad to say.

Holy smokes thank god this album is still available! I only heard it once or twice back in my college days around 96!

I like the mood elicited by this album. Relaxing yet focusing. It helped me focus during work.
