My original trim head died on me yesterday. Today I began my search for a replacement and came across your video. Discovering that this is the coolest and most efficient trim head that I've ever seen. Thanks for this tutorial! I liked what you presented and went out to buy one, using your link below. Can't wait to put it to use next week.

Im older and I always used line replacement time to take a sit down break with a cold ice tea, a smoke and too refeed some more line. Now the mrs who loves to watch me work, says, I bought you the speed feed so it would help you get done faster, but it still takes you the same amount of time to finish as the old head. I said... Oh....I thought you got the speed feed so I could enjoy more of my breaks... Besides I can't fill it with my hands full.... Raising tea in one hand and a smoke in the other, with a big smile on my face! Lol

If you want to make that speed feed head last 100 times longer, drill a small hole in the center of the bump button and install a small bolt and flat washer from the outside with a lock nut on the inside of the bump button. no more plastic contacting ground.

The factory head for my 1994 McCulloch Pro-Mac III Super weed trimmer never worked right. I used a variety of simple trimmer heads (adding pieces of line or plastic blades as you trim) over the years (decades). I decided to give the Speed Feed 400 head a try today. The gold arbor fit perfectly. I did some major trimming with it right away. It is a great trimmer head! Made my 27 year old trimmer seem like a new machine!

I love how universal these heads are, especially when they got into Echo's ownership. I actually retrofitted this to my Ryobi 790r (which may have been overkill for that kind of trimmer), and it works just like it was the original, and may even outlast the thing.

Recently started watching your videos. Very informative. And thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am going to change out my trimmer head to the speed feed. It is sooo much easier than the conventional one. I saw your video on loading the two different heads. You were the only one who mentioned the length of the new line to use. My Stihl straight shaft's owners manual doesn't tell you what length to use which I found odd. Thanks for all your help, Ray from Central Ohio.

Your videos have been beneficial. Please keep them coming. I'm pretty sure it took you much longer to list the brands and model numbers than it took to produce your video. I found a Zerk fitting that fits the grease hole and makes greasing an easy chore. For those who want to know. These grass trimmers', with gas engines, need to be broken in. I would also recommend NOT using 10/15 methanol gas as it will harm the engine.

Regarding those forces that work to prevent lawns from being mowed - they walk among us, seeking out the mowers and trimmers you most rely on; their mission is to make sure your tools will not work when it is most critical that the lawn be mowed immediately, and they choose to screw up those parts which are both unavailable locally and no longer made. And they love their job!

One favor… I bought a speedfeed 400 (used your links), mounted it on my Honda straight shaft HHT35S. The pre-loaded string was barely sticking out of the head before I installed the head, but in the process of mounting the head, it disappeared inside the head. No instructions on how to get it back out. Any thoughts? 3 mins later… Oh, press the two release catches, then take apart. I removed the pre-loaded line put it all back together, and reloaded the line. Yay! I’m a big boy now! Thank you sooo much for your channel/input/support!

I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ukposts.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

Hello, I have just started to watch your channel and appreciate the 'down to earthness' and the very easy to follow practical advice you provide. I have learned something new each episode and value the way you go beyond the obvious, such as with greasing the trimmer head gearbox in this one. Experience counts for everything! However, I was dismayed to see you finishing off demonstrating what we call here a 'brush cutter' without wearing any specific personal safety gear, and not using a harness in what might be termed as 'uneven ground'. Familiarity breeds contempt too. That said, PPE and correctly fitting common harness types might be a valuable topic for a future episode. Keep it going and keep it safe!

ONLY head i will run. I upgraded my 20 year old srm210 with this head. My god it works flawlessly and like you said it takes more time to find the trimmer line in the shop than it does to rewind the thing. Great job chickanic!

As always we appreciate your videos. These Universal Speed Feed head are the great. One problem I have run into is if you are trimming around a Lake you will collect fishing line between the back base and head. When that happens it prevents the head to feed the line out. So, I have told the guys that all they have to do is remove the head and remove the fishing line between the base plate and head. But, instead they open it and loose the spring and cap and that’s when they bring it to me. Also adding a grease fitting to the gear head is convenient as well.

Okay. I am convinced. When I first watched this, I had a new Stihl head and didn't want to buy another one. Now I have decided to change it out. You are the inspiration for that. Thank you.

Didn’t know my mom’s dewalt had this feature until I read your comment. Now she can string it herself. Before I’d have to disassemble it to string it. I prefer the gas powered, but this is easy and convenient for her. Thanks!

Do any of those numbers mentioned represent an electric or battery trimmer? I do not need a gas powered one. I see they made one, Shindaiwa T3000W, but it does not show up on their web store so I suppose it is discontinued?

@@SirLunchalot2 I know the 300 works well with the Ryobi line of battery powered equipment. The 400 and 450 is a little too much, but it'll work.

Have an older 242 multi-tool, with the speed feed on the trimmer head, the ultimate in line feeding. One note, if you can get a bit of tension/hold on the line while grasping the lower section, as you're screwing/drawing the line into the head, I feel you get a slightly tighter spool up. Not alot of tension, just enough, so it isn't drawing in loosely. Just tore the spark plug boot off my 242, guess which video I just came from.....Thanks for the help!

I need to get one of these! One of the things that keeps me from trimming as often as I should is knowing that I am going to have to fight restringing it at least every other time I go out with it. Every trimmer should come with this kind of head straight from the factory.
