This is what so many people in these comments don't seem to get. Like, yeah charli isn't a destitute starving child in some warzone, but daily death threats and hate and parental pressure are part of HER reality and it's hard for HER. It would be fucking hard for me too if any of that happened to me now as a full adult.

The D'amelio parents are so odd to me. They seem to be okay with throwing the financial burden on their children, despite witnessing Dixie and Charlie have panic attacks over the very thing that supplies the family's money. Have they ever tried to steer their children away from fame? Or have they accepted, or even encouraged, all the fame and opportunity? Do they even truly register what they're doing to their children?
@marnie6967
@marnie6967 2 роки тому
Exactly my feeling and I also think that maybe if they had left it alone and left Charli and Dixie to continue making tiktoks with dances and things without the pressure of a music career, books, brand deals and Hulu tv shows (????) then maybe the girls (because they are children) wouldn’t face such pressure. Obviously there would be some pressure with such a large audience and some may argue that they want to do these things but seeing how stressed and emotionally tired they are sort of suggests this isn’t the case and they’re being told they want to do these things by management bought for them by their parents. I don’t know if this tv show was the best idea given the bad light it’s put their parents under.

there are actually scenes in the last couple episodes where heidi calls the guy who plans charli's calendar to clear up a week so that she can have a break, so that charli can improve on her mental health. so yes, her parents do have an impact however her parents do still care about her and stuff
@digitalharmony26

@@jazzh8211 one week, after planning a whole year jam packed with stuff that is overwhelming her and honestly we don’t know she even wants. Sure a break is good, but going a week without anything then diving back to an overpacked schedule won’t help. She needs to remove some of that weight, not just take the entire weight off for a week only to pack it all back on after that. Granted I don’t know these people, none of us do but I wonder if they’ve ever really sat down with their daughters and asked if they want to do all of this, what exactly they want and to reassure there is not pressure for them to continue this just to pay the bills because that should NEVER be the child’s responsibility.

It's also the idea of if your kid has the chance to do something they "like at the start" that makes them enough money they won't ever have to worry and possible a career they enjoy. A lot of parents would think if I was my kid I'd want my parent to push me to do this cause it's the best "chance" in life for them to make it. Not saying it's okay for parents to do such things, but it's more understandable when you think about it.

Exactly. The fact that they could've just let their kids be kids and let them deal with the fame in their own way (Charli could've sought out brand deals/sponsors on her own, or she might not have wanted to do other things at all and is content with making tiktoks), but instead they started immediately capitalizing off of it, knowing their kids would probably heed their advice because they're the parents. honestly, i feel bad for them. like not BAD BAD, but i watched the show and it feels like they were forced to make this show. and if not forced, it seemed like they were forced to really force out their problems as “drama” on the shows, and on the show i can see their actual stress that they have, and in one of the last episodes charli really touches on the hate that she gets, like she’s 17 and gets so much hate for just doing dances. charli really seems like she’s smart and she’s genuine. she doesn’t go around wearing gucci and all this shit, she seems down to earth. i really do, (ik this is stereotypical), but i think it’s the parents fault. when Dixie was having a mental breakdown the parents was more concerned ab the show than her. i think 100% of the cringe stuff and the things that no one likes is the managers and the parents fault, and charli is only 17, she’s 100%. like the haters are so stupid, all of her hate comments are either saying “it’s okay you can take down ur BLM profile picture” which, if she didn’t care ab BLM SHE WOULDVE NEVER MADE IT THAT, she’s only 17, she can support movements, and that she can’t dance and she does tiktok dances, but she’s been doing completive dances since she was 4. like she gets more hate than fucking Zoe Laverne who dated a 13 year old and got preggo by a trump supporter, and the other self obsessed tiktok stars. like it’s really sad.

honestly this is just a weird form of modern child labor that’s not taken seriously cause “they don’t do anything but still make money!” as if they’re doing all of the stuff they’re doing and not being exploited by adults edit: kay i dont think y’all get what i mean, it is ridiculous that they make money from moving their arms a bit but the adults in their lives are making them do literally anything and everything to make money, acting, singing, writing, etc. these are things that takes other people years to achieve and they’re doing it all at once while having all of the pressure they get.
@inyrui
@inyrui 2 роки тому
"child labor" they make tiktok dances and got their own show? they aren't being made to work in a salt mine or stitch shoes. her anxiety is clearly caused by being on an online space, not her parents or anyone pressuring her. i saw no evidence of anyone pressuring her to do anything while watching the show. she's 17 years old and people are acting like she doesn't have the mental capacity to choose things for herself lmfao. legally she's a child but i'm sure she has the brainpower to say yes and no to things. child labor is Ryans Toy Reviews because he is literally too young to realize what he's doing. Charli isn't so i don't get why people are acting like she's being forced to make content. everyone has detractors and online haters and that can and will affect someone's mental state. it's awful and shouldn't happen but i struggle to see how this in any way is child labor. child labor infers some sort of physical or mental labor that is taxing on the child. the only mentally taxing thing to Charli is online trolls and that isn't anyones fault. the only physically taxing thing is actually doing the dances. i just honestly don't get the pity party for famous people simply for being famous. fame comes with hate and pressure. it always has
@inyrui

i also don't see how Charli is being exploited. she has a manager, does he just force her to take show deals without asking her? probably not lol. she no doubt has a say in any projects she does and any videos she puts online. and i can't find any online evidence that her family or managers have taken advantage of her by stealing money or charging exorbitant fees. so i really don't see how she's being exploited. i'm sure Charli has more agency in her own career than you all are making it seem

@@inyrui I started out disagreeing and ending up somewhat agreeing 😂 But one thing I'd like to say is, you have to see that she didn't ask for this lifestyle at the beginning. But now she has made certain commitments (like to her audience, her future prospects, brand deals and all) which she can't just drop. She's in the situation where she can say no to stuff but that would lead to missing potentially good opportunities. Like what if as Dree said, she's earning for the family now? Isn't she feeling obligated to continue to do so? This is mentally taxing job. Child labour.

@@inyrui drew went over all this in the video. There are people that have literally planned out years of their lives for them. They may feel bad about turning anything down because they’re scared to let their family down or go broke. So now we have kids with zero free time, people always telling them what to do, and a bunch of people hating them for no reason. Of course having all of this happening while being rich is nowhere near the worse situation going on right now. But that doesn’t mean you can’t feel any empathy for them
@Dacept
@Dacept Рік тому
Really good video man, said everything I’ve been thinking for a while. Even though they’re mega rich, the amount of stress that gets put on these kids is absolutely hellish. It’s a level of stress that money simply won’t fix. I think it’s unfair for people to say they should be happy simply because of their fortunate circumstances. Because no matter who you are, everybody has their own set of struggles they have to fight every single day.
@QuinnEnestvedt

And it's messed up that any kid should be put in the position where they have to answer the question of what they value more, their mental and emotional health, or their future financial situation, and have their parents shove them towards the money. That's the most heartbreaking part, that it's so obviously not a situation where the kids are following their passion and the adults in their lives are just following their lead and supporting them however they can. The adults are pushing this and the kids are just like "I don't really feel comfortable with this, but you're authority figures in my life who I trust so I guess I'll go along with it".

i really question their parents morals. they see how much this is all affecting their children and they don’t seem to care that much. if my child was having this much anxiety over things that could be controlled i would take them out of the situation immediately. they are being filmed having panic attacks and mental breakdowns but it’s fine because it’ll give them sympathy and more money?? the entire family is basically financially dependent on charli and they’ve dug themselves too deep to just back out of everything. nobody is standing up for charli or dixie and that is so sad

Taking them out of the situation would probably just create more drama leading to worse anxiety and poorer mental health. the parents deciding to cut them off from the world all of a sudden would probably upset the girls and the fans and their friends and the media and really wouldn’t be productive at all. There really isn’t a solution, especially not one that’s achievable by their parents since you can’t undo fame and they’re probably already under so many contracts. And I don’t think charli or Dixie wants to quit since they have so many benefits and opportunities so if their parents forced them to that would also take a toll on their mental health and probably wouldn’t help it at all. Also in the series they do seem pretty concerned with the amount of work their children are doing and I’m pretty sure charli and Dixie offered to help pay for the house since they say that the parents never really wanted to move to LA in the first place but charli and Dixie figured out the logistics and begged them to until they said yes

Two major takeaways here-one, Jeanette is completely right in saying that children should not be able to be famous. Your brain isn’t finished developing until you’re 25, and being exposed to that level of stress and anxiety when that young physically changes the makeup of your brain. Second, I feel like we’re nearly at a turning point with how we talk about fame, especially for young people-think Lorde’s recent comments about being young and having nightmares from paparazzi, all of the Britney Spears stuff, and all of the abuse allegations that have come out of Hollywood. Too many kids want to be famous via social media without knowing the real impacts and consequences of that. It’s on adults to safe guard them, not thrust them further into the spotlight.

My siblings and me got some recommendations to be child models and stuff like that when we were little, my parents only took my younger brother once (because we asked for it 😬) saw that he wasn't really into it and never took him there again, I didn't really understand before, I was like 'but why didn't you take me? We could have more money now!' but I think all along they just wanted us to be regular kids and do nothing most of the time 😅

I agree with most of the stuff except for the age really. I think most young people have at least now a solid grasp of mental health. I would say if you aren’t old enough to drive, you shouldn’t be famous. I know with the fully developed brain thing, but tbh I also know plenty of people who are older than 25 the don’t even know the full ramifications of their actions. I would say it has to do more with parenting. One example is Shawn Mendes, dude got pretty famous pretty young and turned out fine, not to say he didn’t struggle, cause I don’t know if he did. I would definitely say it’s not necessarily always an age thing (depending on the age) but more of a lifestyle thing, plenty of adults wouldn’t know how to properly handle being famous.

this is extremely well worded. Thank you for your opinions. One thing about lorde I would like to add, is that in her recent album she talks about being a popstar while being a teen (california) and then now that shes finally taking the route to heal up from her immediate fame and pressure, people are starting to hate on her. They are upset that she's no longer providing them comfort from her songs and upset that shes taking a more satirical view on things. I just wanted to say this, thank you for listening (reading) and thank you for sharing your opinions op o7

@@jacobherrera8735 I see your point for sure, but let’s take the driving example. Teenage drivers have the highest level of accidents and risk-taking behaviour on the road, which is why they are required to have higher insurance rates than most people. Brain development is a large part in that risk-taking behaviour. So, when you’re that young and your brain physically cannot have a grasp on itself, it’s a little more dangerous for it to take on the high amounts of stress involved in being busy and being held to such a high level of scrutiny. Like other trauma that induces higher cortisol levels (for example, adultification due to absentee or abusive parents), later down the line that can cause depression/anxiety, alcoholism, post-traumatic stress, etc. You’re right in that plenty of adults would not handle fame well, but that’s less about neural connectivity than it is about personality, life circumstances, childhood trauma and the nuances that come with more life lived.

The songwriting thing resonated with me. There's a saying that I've heard in my writing class that you have to write 100 bad songs before you write your first good song. I've written lyrics every night for over a year, and honestly they're all bad. But nobody's seen any of the crappy ~380 songs. Dixie is getting that experience, going through the process of writing those first songs... but in front of hundreds of millions of people. That must be terrifying.

Plus she probably has a bunch of people on her team kissing up to her and lying to her about how good the songs are cuz they know it'll make money either way, then she goes on the internet to see millions of people hating on what she was (probably) told was an amazing song by the people closest to her. The trust issues I would get...

Yet again you’ve created a balanced, respectful, and honest examination of something most people would just write off as terrible and move on. I think one of your strengths is having a range of style types: sharply funny, extremely angry (which is somehow even funnier), and truly thoughtful commentary. Love it all.
