I forgot about this match. This is why Rafa is so amazing. He fights fo every point, no matter the score. The only comeback I can think of bigger than this in a set is Chanda Rubin against Jana Novotna. She was down 0-5 0-40 in the final set and came back and won the match.

Federer will go down in my books as a gentleman and one of the most graceful to watch, Djokovic may end his career with the most slams, but Nadal will always be one of my faves for his mental toughness and how he never gives up on every point.. One of the best to play the game

i love the way andujar went out in this match. he made a lot of errors but he went out knowing that the only way to win was to play as aggressive as possible. sure it didn’t work out but it rarely does against the goat in france

From a score perspective, it doesn't matter so much how many points / games your opponent has. At the end you still need to win 6 or more games in order to win a set. It's incredible how Nadal was able to keep focus and not let it get to his head.

Rafa is awesomely amazing in self belief that he could have a chance, and he did on this occasion. One ball at a time, one score focus on - to get there or not, knowing he genuinely tried. How entertaining :) Andujar had in every game some set points against Nadal. Nadal had to fight very hard for every game. And only when they are at 5-5 Andujar wins the next game and we see a Tie Break. Wow and thank you for the show. Both players^^

I cannot even imagine what it’s like trying to return his ground strokes with the insane amount of topspin he uses. Someone should get a super high speed camera to get the ball as it passes over the net. It won’t be spherical, that’s for sure. It’s got to be ovoid from the crazy amount of spin. Plus his court coverage on clay.... everything you throw at him comes back at you every time, clearing the net by six feet and then rocketing off the surface so if you’re even the tiniest bit late you’ll be trying to return it up by your neck. I grew up in the Borg era and Rafa reminds me so much of Borg (obviously making adjustments for the fitness requirements of today plus the racquet technology). Rafa plays every point 1000 percent, doesn’t get psyched out by his opponent, doesn’t care about the score. Borg was the same way. Losing the marathon tie-break to McEnroe at Wimbledon 1980 would have mentally crushed any other player but Borg just let it go and played the next set and won. Mentally Borg and Nadal were very similar and stylistically their games were similar as well. By the way my pick for GOAT is Federer but I’ve got to say Rafa is right up there too. What an incredible tennis player.

best clay game I've seen, NADAL the man

I was hopping that kind of miracle last time with tsisipas on the last set. Nadal was so tired, and he couldn't win neither a point with tsisipas service. But so many times players have to play a lot of game points against him if they want to win the match to Nadal at the very end. And even tsisipas at that time was a little worried, he wanted to really finish that game as soon as possible.

That mental strength right there has to be admired

Even crazier is that a lot of the games after trailing 1-5, 0-40 were hard fought back & forth games. You would think a player would get hot and domintate to come back and win the set. It shows just how much he battles and wears his opponents down...UNBELIEVABLE!!!

These comebacks need two things for them to happen. One side that considers the set already won, and the other side being "I'm gonna make him run".

Andujar could’ve ended it a couple times but it was clear Nadal was very much in his head… Nadal chases down balls at the bet that most people would just accept they lost the point. He knows if he gets to it that close to the net he has opponent dead to rights. Absolutely amazing match to watch.

This was the 2nd round of the 2011 championships, incase anyone was wondering. Rafa had just came off the back of a 5-set first round tie with John Isner. He later beat, Robin Soderling, Andy Murray & Roger Federer, in the Quarters, Semis & Final, respectively, for his 6th Roland Garros crown.

The thing most people don't notice about him is that where an ordinary left handed would play a backhand, he plays a forehand; and that requires some serious ability to run backwards which he clearly is best at. Love the sport because of him.
