Lupo was small and good for urban driving. Aptera only seems small. In reality it's very wide, wider than a typical SUV, it's not good for tight spaces. With current size, it can't even be registered in Europe, as this kind of vehicles need to be up to 2 m wide and 4 m long and this thing exceeds both.

The Aptera aerodynamics engineering team had a ridiculous amount of time to work on every aspect of the shape of this vehicle from all the way in the late 2000s. They have ran the simulations and have optimized the shape for every scenario over and over for years and now it's all being tested irl. You're claiming to be more of an expert than a team of specialists working on the problem for years. I suggest you reconsider your claim sir.

When I saw the car for the fist time, I placed an order for my daily commuter. Might as well do it as efficient and low cost as much as possible. Not to mention, the 0-60 can be under 3.5sec if you get the AWD (3 wheeled) version. I get to have a fun, speedy, efficient, all in one commuter!

Quite a shame really. A manual measurement at fully charged live rendered a width of 83 inches, if I've counted correctly on my fingers 2 meters comes out to 78.674 inches.

I just googled it and in the UK a car can be max 2.55 m wide. The Aptera would not fit in my garage though.

After this vehicle succeeds, they will make a four seater version that has a similar shape and is a lot more efficient than the recent crop of EVs. People who care about climate change and the future viability and well-being of humanity will be driving these and other vehicles similar to these.

40 miles a day from solar is insane! Even if that's 20 miles in Ohio, that's still impressive. Someone who goes only a few miles to work and back and local errands on the weekends will NEVER have to charge it.

@@mollybritton745 The next model will likely be a sedan, but that won’t be tall, and is at least a few years out. The Bolt EUV is a pretty efficient and easy to access in and out with its extra height. It’s still small and efficient though.

I used to be a Tesla fan but the longer Musk stays in charge the less of a fan I've become. I've heard too many horror stories of Tesla not making repair parts available that at this point I'm waiting for a better option from a more traditional OEM. However, I've always liked the efficiency of the Aptera and they've just gotten better this time around by including solar panels. Once they start deliveries at that point I'll put down a deposit.

But can you run to the DIY store and pick up a few 2x4’s at 2.4 meters in length? What about sheet materials? It may be good for getting a person from A to B… but you couldn’t transport a chest of drawers in the back. Guess that means relying on gas powered goods vehicles that will also disappear from the road. This is a good concept, but practical everyday usage is beyond this cars ability. Especially if you do your own house work.

I in your place would have kept the reservation ($100.- only!) bought the Tesla Model 3, and when the Aptera delivery date was determined I would sell the Model 3, and if necessary rent a car for bridging a couple of weeks. Now you'll be at the end of the waiting queue if you might want again to own the Aptera...

Looks like average milage driven seems to be about / not far from 30 miles per day UK, EU, & US.... Hence there are many in sunny parts that would never, ever need to plug in!

As so aerodynamic, & electric, the two biggest sources of noise (wind & engine noise) are gone so it should be quiet even at the speed limit... Aptera's website has a charging calculator but it only goes up to 50 miles driven per day, depending on the battery option you chose, you might need a plug in charge around every week or two with one of the bigger battery options? That is a wild guess as it depends how sunny it is where you park, and how heavy your right foot is... I would have thought that the Aptera would be a breeze for you, should make your commute so much more comfortable.... Obviously we won'r really know until production versions are being shipped out of the company!

People are going to start talking. 🤭 As far as personal transportation goes (mine goes 70 miles per week), I've yet to see anything come close to my horrible old bicycle in terms of sustainability and efficiency. I didn't mention enjoyability, but nobody said life was supposed to be fun. What about affordability? Hmm. By the time the regulators, tax people and magical import fairies have done their duty, I can't see an Aptera costing much less than £30,000 when it gets to Merrie England. For some of us, that's a LOT of money. Over the past twelve or so years my bike has cost about £25 [twenty-five] to run: new tyres, a second-hand replacement wheel, a puncture kit, and a chain-repair tool. That's about £2.00 a year. Admittedly, I still have to pay for the food to provide the calories I need to burn to pedal a bike, but I'd be burning a lot more precious calories if I had to walk up hill and down dale to town and back several times a week, fighting off dastardly Yorkshire ruffians, cutpurses and highwaymen whilst carrying a backpack full of spuds, onions, rice and assorted yummy nibbles. (I don't have a fridge or freezer, so I can't keep fresh food fresh for very long.) How does the Aptera option measure up? Not well. Assuming I bought no food or clothing, abandoned my tiny house and lived under a bridge like the troll I really am, on my current budget it'd take me over 35 years to pay for an Aptera. Thirty-five years? That's a long time to go without a meal. And without any of those... yummy nibbles. Of course there are plenty of people worse off than I am, but as long as there are enough peeps with three or four EVs in their multi-garages to keep Ego Muskrat and his chums happy, there's no incentive for companies like Aptera (or Arcimoto or Tesla or BMW or Honda or Toyota or whatever) to make anything cheap. I mean CHEAP cheap. Cheep?🐦 Let them eat cake, say the CEOs. And so that's what I do. I eat cake. It's homemade sultana sponge, mostly - microwaved, super-squidgy and full of calories. Ideal cycling fuel.

I can't say for the whole car, but the motors are made by a Slovenian company and they have non-aptera test mules built and run through paces in snow and on frozen lakes. They also have freeze tests available to view on their UKposts channel

With Rousch’s engineering, the leaning isn’t necessary and would just add a lot of complexity. The car has enough low down mass to not need it either. Leaning is good when you have a high center of gravity you are trying to compensate for, like most motorcycles, or have traction issues with the single wheel position, neither apply to the Aptera.

The number of 'Leaning' three wheelers that have made it to market, tells me the complexity, weight, dev cost and gyro's needed just don't end on the right side of the Cost Benefit equation. Have you seen the Moose test of the Aptera? It's better than most 4 wheelers its size.

A lot of journeys we don't need that space, so what's the answer? Ride a bike, electric unicycle, motorcycle for those journeys? Only hire a SUV when we need the space? These aren't easy fixes. However, we are looking to downsize as soon as our family space requirements allow us meaning we'll be driving around in a small/medium sized car with just 1 driver in it '99%' of the time!

Yes but a lot safer than a motorcycle and it can work well in the rain and snow.
