Speedrunning be like: "He discovered a trick that was immensely hard to pull off. It required ten angle perfect inputs, thirteen pixel perfect inputs, and alternating buttons every 60th of a second without pausing. It took place in the last minute of the run, and he had to be there on the perfect frame, which meant completely perfect play up to that point. Additionally, not only was his position required to be right, but his subpixel position, which takes too long to manipulate and is essentially RNG (7/3000 chance) had to be right as well. The trick involves unplugging your console from the controller, the monitor and the battery strategically to get a certain power flow, which if failed could electricute you; those inputs also had to be done within 1/60 of a second as well. In all, the trick saved around three tenths of a second. Obviously, it was worth going for it."

I'm 37 and I just discovered what speed running is. Castlevania was the first and only game I ever beat when I was a kid. At least a few dozen times. This video got me back into gaming. Thank you!

The best example of this I ever got was when the algorithm recommended a nearly 2 hour long video about the fast pass system at Disney World that ended up being the most interesting UKposts video I have ever seen. I’ve watched it like 4 times, which is a lot given it’s length. Could not recommend more.

I love how collaborative speedrunning is. Everyone is basically putting all their tech out in the open so that they can completely for execution on a level playing field. At most someone gets Behemothed now and then (see the Super Metroid video for context) but even then a surprise record from a strategy change is usually accompanied by a big form post inviting everyone else to try to new trick and push it to the limit. It's really such a wholesome competition.

2021 Update: kmac came back out of retirement, and got a WR 11:20 6 months ago, only to have that beaten in the same month by shockra_tease at 11:13 and then 2 months later by SBDWolf at a time of 11:05. Could we get Sub 11? Anything is possible.

You know, one thing that I love about this channel is that I have no idea who this guy is on really any level, but that doesn't matter. This is my favorite channel on UKposts. But there's almost no personality to it, and there doesn't need to be. Like genuine unmatched levels of high quality content, without inserting his life or opinion into any of it. I think that just goes to show how amazing this channel is. Realistically, I don't care to, and I will probably never speedrun anything, but I don't need to. Everytime I see an upload from this channel, I get genuinely excited, and that hasn't happened in a very long time.

If you watch other speedrunning channels you will actually start to see his personality but the lack there of in other speedrunning channel. His personality is completely here, editing the music that's all personal preference which is personality. Hes also a speedrune himself and broadcast on twitch where you get more personal but there's def personality here.

@Instinctively Chelsea You don't have to defend Salt, I don't think OP meant he has no personality, but rather that his work is such high quality that it can live on it's own. That's probably the highest accolade a nerdy stuff can earn :) Oh, and apparently a New Year has passed while I was writing this comment. I can say that Holy Water in Ultimate is much like the one from Castlevania: When hit an enemy, this one is stunned while receiving damage, unable to do any damage to you, making them easy to kill or run away from. He even said that indirectly in 3:45. On a side note, their down-air is much like boosting in those games, in the sense of boucing if you hit an enemy.
