I would watch it. The fourth age, is ripe for untold stories. I wouldn’t consider it be fan fiction. I know ROP is not for everyone, and I know I complained that this didn’t happen or that, then I remembered, it’s just a show. Enjoy it for what it is and not what it isn’t.

The dwarves can’t seem to catch a break. Looked down on by the elves, driven from their homes by orcs and dragons, hell they’re not even counted among the Children of Illuvatar until the end of the world. Don’t get me wrong, I’d follow Gimli or Thorin and company into battle any day but the dwarves ain’t half unlucky when it comes to their own affairs.

I think this is sort of a punishment sent forth by Eru. He did say the Elves would be the first of his children be born upon the world but Aule did not have the patience and created his own. Although the Dwarves that molded didn't possessed any form of living consciousness since only Eru is the only one that can bring life to creations. This mindless Dwarves still counted as the First before the Elves. Eru were clearly displeased that his Elves was not the First even though this Dwarves that Aule made aren't technically alive. After they were given life, Eru reverberated his words unto Aule that the Dwarves throughout their years until to the end would faced nothing but hardship and struggle of their place in the world.

I feel like almost all of the fringe areas in Tolkien you don't see much of get to be a lot more interesting because it's so easy to horizontally imagine the way Tolkien worldbuilds into what could be out there and going on there and how thoroughly brilliant it all undoubtedly would be, even in the locations with very limited fleshing out or perhaps especially those.

The Giant/Great Eagles. They show up in a few, very scattered places in this franchise/world. They rescued Gandalf from the top of the tower, as well, and they showed up in some of the earlier times. It would be nice to know if they came from Valar, or are native to Middle Earth, as one element of a show on them.

Theory: One of the tallest mountains of the Scandinavian Mountains (Misty Mountains), located at it's Northern end stands Mount Møysalen. Mount Gundabad in Khuzdul means: Underground Hall. While Mount Møysalen in Norwegian means: Maiden's Hall. Along it's left flank stands bunches of mountains and islands called Lofoten (Mountains of Angmar). While along it's right flank stands the North Cape of Norway (Grey Mountains) which encapsulates the Woodland Realm (Sweden & Finland).

Generally we see Tolkien drawing inspiration from Scandinavia. Another case of this is ‘Helms Deep’, which is theorized to be directly taken from the Danish town called ‘Hjelms Dyb’ (means exactly the same thing as well).

Take the map of England and turn it upside down. Look at it. Where Inverness is, is Gondor and Minas Tirith and bay of belfalas. Follow the short line north and south of there and you’ll see rest of ME

Concerning the topic for another video: I think it would be cool to cover something you've already touched upon in this video - life and culture of orc, especially if no big boss is around to force them into large-scale war... I mean, they clearly have their own culture and way of life heavily based upon raiding. But they also build their own complex (albeit crude) settlements and invent machinery. They form their own political entities and even whole nations/ethnicities (orcs in RotK speaking to each other in Westron, because they don't understand each other's language...). Would be interesting to have all we know about this aspect of Legendarium in one video.

I didn’t know Gundabad had belonged to the dwarves before! Always something new to learn on the channel! 😄 I’d love to hear more about the dwarves, maybe like a genealogy of Durin’s folk talking about important members of his family tree and what they did and when they lived and what important events happened in middle earth during their respective days.

I am once again noticing the very long periods of time between significant events, and wonder what the various races were doing during these periods. This gives rise to an additional question about how they ran things. In this epistle I am focusing only on the Orcs. Orcs have to eat, and while it seems odd to consider that orcs would farm or raise beasts for food, it's difficult to avoid concluding they must have done so, even if Tolkien never made mention of this beyond Frodo saying that orcs eat food like we do. Presumably any such farming would be well hidden so outsiders wouldn't find them. They might well have used slaves to do the work. It may have been that during these quiet periods that orc populations were small since large numbers of them would be almost useless when not breeding to create an army, and would require much wasted energy to feed them all. But during these period when they weren't making warfare one can't help but wonder if there was some sort of orcish civilization. They may have had some sort of family structure - at least Bolg being the son of Azog is noted. They made weapons, so knowledge of metal smithing and other crafts must have been known. Since no large group can function without some means of exchange for labor, presumably they had at least a barter system, if not a fungible means of exchange to get things done. My point is that it's easy to think only of what we are told; that orcs only lived in caves, and were always fighting either each other or other peoples, and could do nothing that wasn't gross and evil. But they could be an effective fighting force without all the background economic and knowledge structures that would be essential to be that fighting force.

Yeeess I left a similar comment about elf populations throughout the ages. I want more details about everyday life and numbers and how were elves who are always portrayed as small in number compared to orcs and men yet have fought massive battles even when they usually have only 1-2 children.

Yeah, something speculative about the "humbler lives" as it were could be really cool. I'm sure there's not much in the source material to work off of - but we do know a bit about what sorts of inspirations and histories Tolkein was drawing upon, right? Maybe there would be some threads to follow there. It would be different too, to discuss some of the things that might have been more "off screen" but still really important. More wars are fought over "we need this land to feed our people" than anything else, through the greater part of history.

I seem to recall one of the leading theories for where one might find a surviving entwife (if there were any to be found) was in eastern Mordor, since that's where most of the farms that feed Sauron's armies were and they'd make top-notch agricultural slaves.

I'm really excited to see you hit 1,000,000 subscribers. It's so well deserved. I was recently pondering the fate of the soul/spirit of Durin's Bane. As an immortal Maiar, would his spirit not have survived his physical death at Gandalf's hands? Maybe an interesting topic would be discussing death and immortality in Tolkien's universe. There's so many interesting examples, from Morgoth, to Beren, to Sauron's multiple deaths, as well as the final fates of characters such as Earendil and Arwen.

I just found this channel and this is the first thing I've watched. Not sure if this has been covered as I haven't investigated the channel, but I have always been fascinated with Eriador, Arnor and it's fall including Cardolan, the barrows and the Wights, how Rhudaur was taken. Also who were the Nazgul as individuals, and the Blue Wizards. Good work!!! Well I just found what I was looking for in regards to Arnor. Very well done. I only wish there was an endless supply of info on all of Middle Earth as eventually all resources will be exhausted seeing how there is only so much Tolkien could create.

Video ideas: - In your video on the great eagles, you mentioned preparing for a video debunking the idea of using the eagles to take the Ring to Mt. Doom, but I don't think that video ever happened. - We could use a "History of Arda" series that covers the timeline of ages of the world. Most of the big events you've already covered here and there on their own in different videos, but it would be good to see where they fall in relation to each other and the time spans involved. - I'd like to see some videos comparing differences between the stories of the books vs the movies for Hobbit and LotR. (Differences with the Rings of Power series would be cool as well, but that's a huge undertaking.) Ideally, I'd like to hear your commentary about reasons to make changes from the text, the impact, and what would have been different about the films if various plot points had been kept more in line with the text. Also, I'd be interested to hear if there is anything from the books you would have changed that the films either didn't change or left out entirely. - I think we're missing a "Maps of Middle-Earth: The Third Age" video to go with the first and second ages. - You've certainly discussed it in other videos, but it might be worth making a standalone video on the Oath of Feanor and its impact through history. - I'm not as deep in the lore so there may not be as much material as I'm hoping, but I'd like to see more content about Numenor. You have one main video on it and several other related videos, but I feel like there's still more to tell there during the Second Age about their ship building, settling of Middle-Earth, and conflict prior to the wars with Sauron.

It has always seemed strange to me that the Dwarves let the Orcs occupy Mount Gundabad for such lengthy periods of time. You would think that they would make it a priority to keep what is basically a holy site free of such infestation.

Ya, I assumed that the location didn't lend itself to the things the Dwarves typically sought: mining resources, trade, ect. and they were pragmatical enough to to focus on their better strongholds.

Any content that you provide from the additional books that are not from the main LOTR trilogy, The Hobbit or the Silmarillion is appreciated. All the other books besides these main ones may have additional info in them, but they are hard to read as they are typically not setup with a straight ahead narrative. They have all the additional notes in them and it's hard to get through them I find. Thanks for your amazing work!

I enjoy all of your videos. Especially the "What if..." type, since it is like a "new story" in the universe we all love. What if Bilbo got to be the ringbearer again at the council of Elrond? I would love a video about Aldarion and Erendis. I also think that a timeline series could be very cool. Like a summarize all the way from Ainulindale to the second music of the Ainur maybe with a few longer videos covering age by age.

Not sure if you could squeeze out a whole video about this, but I'd love to see you talk about Cuivienen. Of all locations, it has always captured my imagination maybe the most, especially since somewhere in the Silmarillion it says the elves can never return there. If I was ever the kind to write LOTR fan fiction, a quest for Cuivienen would be the sort of thing I would write about. Or some kind of D&D campaign. It would be like seeking for the Garden of Eden or the search for the Holy Grail.

If you're searching for maybe some interesting realms; you could pick Ithilien. There would loads of interesting things. The different cities and locations (like the forbidden pool), the rangers with faramir. Their part in the War of the ring. Anyway, amazing video about Mount Gundabad. I enjoyed it a lot. Very interesting that the initial fall was 'instructed' by Sauron as retaliation.

Really interesting story and reminds me of and is probably the inspiration for the story of Karak Eight Peaks in Warhammer. It was originally one of the greatest Dwarven Kingdoms before it was taken by Goblins then Skaven and its been a three-way mountain/underground war up until the end times.

I played a lot of RoleMaster RPG in the 80s/90s and we played with Middle Earth materials. I had a Mount Gundabad adventure guide that was really cool. It was definitely a goblin stronghold in that booklet, but the deepest parts of Gundabad were particularly nasty, even the orcs stayed away from the horrors down there. It was made by ICE, of course, and maybe worth having a look at if any of you care. I still have it, probably up in my attic with all my old RPG stuff. I just might have to peep it out one of these days myself. Good memories. Thanks for the video to remind me.

Hello @nNerdoftheRings , I have followed your channel since your first video and have since then watched all of your content. The way you describe the works of Tolkien is so well done, perfectly executed. I personally would love more of two types of content (read more): 1. In depth descriptions of characters who's life and travels deviate from the movies/series compared to the litterature. For example your recent video about Prince Imrahil. Those type of videos make me wish that Peter Jackson had a bigger budget to inclute those types of characters in the movie adaptations, and many more. 2. Also I really love your analasys and hopes, predictions for upcoming seasons/movies/adaptations about Middle Earth. And how that can be done to introduce more people to the amazing world and fantasy that Tolkien has created. As always I wanna say a huge thank you to the work and content you provide for me and many other. Keep it up, its very much appreciated! Regards A fan

I would love to see a movie/series covering the war beneath the mountains. If I'd have a say in it, I'd like coverage on any details regarding the areas less traveled that have lore and monsters. The children of spiders nesting grounds, the orc chieftains and warlords not yet looked at, and any other creatures hinted but not yet fully explored. Love all the world building and stories that branch from the mind of Tolkien.

I am sensing that many of the Tolkien UKposts channels are running low on new content ideas. Most of the channels focus on the third age, with reference to the earlier ages brought in as reference. I would love to see a deeper dive into earlier times, including deeper dives into the formation of Arda, music of the ainor (horrible spelling I’m sure), and this set of epochs before the first age. The big stories have been done, but learning more of the details, interrelationships, and so forth would be great.

Something that I'd personally be appreciative of is when you're talking about areas and names you highlight them like you did for the area of Gundabad. I ask this because as a complete novice to the universe that knows a little bit about the lore, I often find myself lost and having to look up areas so I know what you're talking about. As an example when you say a name of a place it would be nice to see a larger map and have the name highlighted so when you name another place and that is highlighted you get a sense of where everything is and where they've gone. It doesn't need to be permanently highlighted for the whole video because as time goes on you'll learn the map more but I feel it helps give scale to what is happening in the video/timeline if that makes sense? I just feel it would be a really beneficial feature of the videos as a lot of channel do similar stuff as you do but I find myself getting lost as to what is where and that doing such a thing would give your videos the edge.

I’ve always wanted to know more about the transition from first to second age. Was the sinking of baleriand in the war of wrath a cataclysmic event similar to that of numenor. How did all the noldor end up in lindon from the og belfalas. Are the the blue mt dwarves still in the same place. What of the green elves of the riverlands (who inhabited what is the rough coastline of eriador). And the edain how did they get to numenor did the valar take them there did they travel by themselves? Also what of the orca and Sauron how is it they got out. The balrog (durins bane) of course is a mystery but theories are always fun!! Love your content

I need to research Durin the Dwarven king again, but I have a question. Every time that he was supposedly reincarnated/brought back.. did he know who he was, and remembered his past lives? Or was it like, "Hey, random above average dwarf, we have been watching you and your kinda awesome, and based on some signs we believe your Durin, so lead us? Then he is like, " what I'm durin reborn, omg no way. Well let's do this I guess" lol. So what made that particular reborn durin dwarf or the Dwarven society believe it was durin reincarnated?
