Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci star in Martin Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN, a saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics. Now playing in theaters and on Netflix.

Disney, and by extension, the MCU, is the world's most powerful media conglomerate and make market researched, test screened products that get vetted by an authoritarian government for approval and literally just locked classic Fox movies in a vault that small exhibitors depend on. Scorsese started The Film Foundation and World Cinema Project to preserve the works of master filmmakers across the globe and has lent his name, money, and mentorship to young auteurs by producing their films. Scorsese's passion for film is unmatched and we should be willing to listen to what he has to say about the state of an industry that was willing to bankroll a shitty Ben-Hur remake to the tune of $100m.

@pjetrs
@pjetrs 4 роки тому
Its not only an 'ending' in the literal sense, if you watch the movie you can feel and see very clearly that Scorsese filmed it and set it up as if it ends something.. I felt slightly depressed leaving the cinema, but also very happy to be able to have witnessed this masterpiece
@jockoadams3377
@jockoadams3377 4 роки тому
@@pjetrs In that sense, you can already see the brilliance in what I've seen in the trailers and released scenes. Can't wait to see it all tomorrow. In alot of his movies, Scorsese uses characters to reflect how he personally feels. With Mean Streets's Charlie.. he too was a young guy struggling with what he should be doing with his life. Now he's an accomplished old man looking back on a lifetime of ghosts. All the old movies/memories are still there... but its in the past. There's a beautiful melancholy sentiment to anyone who's lived life, done things, had friends and lost stuff.. that we can all relate to. For an audience to connect with the artist on that level, thats true art.

I watched this a few months ago in a special screening at the cinema, which had a prelude of bits of live interviews with the cast and Martin Scorsese. At no point did i realise I'd been sat there for 4 hours, THAT'S how engrossing it was. The highlight of the film, was Joe Pesci. His character was the polar opposite of his goodfellas and casino performances. He was riveting, and it was both engaging and slightly unnerving. Ironically he was as unpredictable as his chatacters in the aforementioned films, but in an almost totally unruffled way. It's a classic, and like many of Scorsese's works, deserves to be watched repeatedly. There's a lot of rich characterisation and detail that won't be picked up on immediately, and that's the layering which takes many viewings to unfurl and savour.

Robert will be in the next Scorsese movie, Pacino is in some TV show by Jordan Peele, but I don't believe that they will ever work together again, it's kinda sad.

Just finished watching this masterpiece. Its a return to the golden days of gangsterclassics like: Goodfellas, Casino and the Godfather. If you liked these movies even a little The Irishman is an absolute must watch. It shows exactly why Martin Scorsese is one of the best directors of all time. Easily one of the best movies in a very long time.
