Knew a kid in high school who would do anything people dared him to do. He drank the liquid from one of those freezer packs you put in a lunchbox. He let a group of people beat him with baseball bats in the parking lot. Drank like 30 of those small milk jugs before throwing up over two or three lunch tables. I genuinely have no idea how he wasn't dead by the time we were graduating.

You can laugh at 100 of these Gus/Sven "that kid" sketches. But eventually you hit one that makes you realize... "Crap, that was me"

I had one of these kids in my middle school. Dude wanted the attention + did not care at all of the consequences. He was severely "depressed" (we didn't really understand it at that age) and did it as a form of excitement/to feel something. There were many funny, stupid, and crazy moments (licking bathroom floor, jumping whole flights of stairs, slapping teachers butts, eating "anything", etc), but I'm glad he made it to highschool (although it was different from mine). I hope he is doing okay today.

I currently have that friend. It’s incredible how durable he is despite him being so thin we can see every bone in his body through his shirt and jacket.

I actually knew a kid in elementary school who cut off his frenulum (that strip under your tongue) with a pair of scissors because someone dared him 10 Swedish Kronor to do it. He had a speech disability for the rest of his life. 10 Swedish Kronor is roughly 1 USD.

The kid I knew like this, snorted tabasco etc, I was friendly towards because he didn't have support from people at all. I barely knew him when I helped him off my hs hallway floor when he was crying right next to a dozen other kids ignoring him. He started following me around like a lost puppy. I ended up feeling guilty because I didn't really want to be his friend because whether he was a try hard or not, or he had been in a vulnerable situation or not, I just wouldn't generally have been his friend. I didn't put on a facade and I treated him as a peer. But if any of my friends ever tried to pull that scapegoat sh*t and aim at the easy target (the kid in question) I would shut them down and fast. It's hard figuring out this world. Some people fear they were born wrong. Support like Sven gives means the world to these people even if they take some time to pull themselves out of their self loathing. It's not about being altruistic, it's just about not punching down at the most mixed up of us. I think that's fair.
