Frank Schmidt will never leave Heidenheim. I did an exchange year in Germany 2007-08 and my best mate lived in Heidenheim and played for the U-21 side and Schmidt was going from player to manager during that time. They already adored him back then 17 years ago. He’ll retire as Heidenheim manager.

Maresca really hasn't shown that much skill philosophy wise at Leicester, he basically has a mid-table prem side in the championship so of course he will be doing well. Big moments he has shown to make bad subs/ not completely had the game plan spot on (except for 60 minutes against leeds). Arsenal would be taking a huge leap to bring him in and they can definitely get more high profile managers in if arteta were to go

Just a sidenote - Johannes Hoff Thorup, the shout for the Brentford job, did not win the Danish Superliga with FC Nordsjælland. FC Copenhagen did. He took over the club in the winter break where Nordsjælland was by far the best team in Denmark, but bottled the lead on Copenhagen in the end. And they are now fourth in the league with no chance of winning it, but they are still in the cup semifinals and have a good chance of winning that.

Im surprised Arne Slot didn’t get a shout. A league winning coach on track to win the cup with Feyenoord training a young squad and had to rebuild a squad once before. Furthermore he reached a European final and did quite decent in the UCL

Great format/video, James. As an Everton fan, myself, I think Dyche should be commended for the job he has done. Barely been able to recruit, working with the absolute tripe in our squad, he's been amazing. Watching the recent Palace (at home) game, I grew frustrated at all of the tentative passing, think I don't think is down to Dyche, but more a lack of ability in the team itself. You know he wants those crosses whipped in. I love him, I think he's been great. On the Moyes question, no thanks. He is a legend at our club and I will never forget those years he gave us. But that's in the past now, though.

The Hoeneß Dyche comparison is wild sorry. Hoeneß is probably the most emblematic figure in young German managers for modern possession based football currently. He’s done great with limited resources but style of play and identity are vastly different.

Doubt it would work, when we've hired the most prestigous managers (Conte,Mourinho) or managers who had lots of hype at the time (Nuno) it didn't work. We've always done better with (at that time) relatively unknown managers

As a Burnley fan, there seems two be two consensuses in the fanbase Including myself, some of us think he should be sacked. For me especially, it's the money spent poorly combined with idiotic decisions. Trafford costs us constantly yet the championship GK of the year in Muric can't even seem to get a look in Then, I'd say a majority of fans still want him in. Saying it's a project and we may as well see it through. Personally think it's wishful thinking that it'll work and whilst he has a lot of credit in the bank with some fans, I don't think we've been anywhere near good enough for him to still have that credit in the bank As I've said a few times, you can't be this bad and get away with it

I dont think he suits a relegation battle, he is not pragmatic enough for that. Brighton ore Brentford I guess, with the Scandinavian connection.

I do enjoy people saying Villa's squad is awesome now -- when it was already brilliant for a year or two prior to now. Gerrard had a team that could have reached 4th, 100%. Few people realised it. TalkSport went on about how poor Mings, Watkins and McGinn had been to let down Stevie G 😂 They ended up being three of the best players in the league across 2023.
