For 25 years, Joe used nonverbal communication as his primary professional tool in the FBI to catch and interview spies, criminals, and terrorists. Since leaving the FBI his life’s work has been in building awareness about the power of nonverbal communication, debunking myths and falsehoods about nonverbals and giving people insight in how to better utilize nonverbals to enhance their communication skills.
Follow Joe on @navarrotells Joe Navarro was a Spycatcher for the FBI in a career spanning decades. Using his specialized skills in behavioural assessment, he mastered the craft of counterintelligence through the use of nonverbal communication. Since retiring he has authored 13 books dealing with human behaviour and lectures widely on the importance and practical use of nonverbal communication.
His book, Louder Than Words, was lauded by The Wall Street Journal as “One of the six best business books to read for your career” and What Every BODY is Saying, translated into 28 languages, remains after eleven years, the #1 selling body-language book in the world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Nice to see a gentleman who presents well and shows signs of caring for humanity rather than boasting of being able to tell if someone is lying. People lie all day long whether they realize it or not. Nice talk. His book “Dangerous Personality’s” really opened my eyes. I’ve read nearly all his efforts. Never a dull page!

While I feel sure that in his work career, he had to be intimidating ( maybe so, maybe not), he brings things down to the most basic level so that even the most novice of us can understand his points. Joe Navarro is one of the best. The way he positively influences others , gives very clear explanations and presentations and also uses humour to engage. His books are exactly the same as his presentations. They are very clear and to the point. I learned so much from him and few others like Chase Hughes, Mark Bowden and B. And A. Pease. I became more confident and I am already teaching my children about bodylanguage and behaviour from very young age to understand what others feel and also for their own protection and happy future.

I’ve never seen Joe make so many jokes in a video before. He’s usually such a master of human interaction because he can see people and read their reactions, but he’s out of his comfort zone in this setting because he can’t see them well and it’s not one-on-one. I think he may be using jokes to self-soothe by making the setting more familiar, because laughter is just about the only reaction you can get out of a crowd.

😂 Large felines: There’s one behavior I had a hard time figuring out *until this video, due to Joe mentioning NECK protecting:* My large feline laid across my neck the other morning in bed, when I was still partially asleep but in the process of waking up. But he didn’t put much of his weight on my neck, if he would’ve, it would’ve restricted my breathing - he’s HUGE & HEAVY. It wasn’t uncomfortable, just the opposite, it felt good, despite his size. As I laid there wondering WHY, I noticed that he distributed most of his weight evenly between his front legs which were on the bed on the right side of me and his back legs on the bed the left side of me. When Joe mentioned how people react to large felines such as lions and said that we wouldn’t be waving to them if they were on the stage, we’d freeze, I thought to myself, “If I seen any type of feline, lion, panther, house cat, wild cat, ANY type, I’d call it to me and talk to it.” 😂 Funny but true. That made me think of how *protective* my large feline is of me, he sleeps between me & my husband every night, our other feline sleeps behind my pillow, and my large feline sometimes gets envious enough to where he shows me that he doesn’t want me paying attention to my other feline, who’s female, who I love dearly. I didn’t know it at the time, when he was laying across my neck (he’d never done this before, it was odd), but I realized a bit later, after he laid there for about 1 minute then moved, our other feline was on the floor beside the bed waiting for me to get up, so, I realized, due to this video, that FELINES KNOW, more than most why it’s necessary for animals to protect their necks, as felines attack necks. But my large feline was covering my neck with his entire HEAVY body, yet not putting all of his weight on me, which couldn’t have been comfortable for him, but it WAS comfortable for me. *He was “protecting” my neck from our other feline! I’m sure of it!* Right now, I’m like, “DUH! Why didn’t I realize this on my own, it’s so obvious.” 😂

I mean when you have someone else touching you you know if it's good bad right there is a good reading of what that person might be up to and hopefully for your sake and your mind it's for the good! “All we are is the sum total of our influence on others”. think about that. How do your actions influence others? How do you make them feel? Before you start saying things that your better judgement is warning you not to, take a breath. I have learned how to mentally protect myself from others anger and disappointment that they seem to think everyone else needs to hear about. Not everyone can. How do you want to be seen?

Portrayed and betrayal are two different things. There are certainly no similarities between the two words. To be betrayed is to have trusted someone and having that trust broken. For example, "John was a good friend to whom I told a secret. He swore he would never reveal it, and then turned around and told everyone." That's betrayal.
