Disconnect the negative battery terminal, cover the alternater, and any terminals, and use the lowest pressure setting on your pressure washer, and don't hold the lance too close to the engine, or in one place too long. You won't damage your engine by keeping it clean, and your mechanic will appreciate it too.

It is scary enough to camp on Padre Island, TX or Goose Island. There can be so much humidity in the air, when opening the engine compartment in am everything looks shinny/wet and I am thinking OMG "everything is leaking" 😂. Plus the minivan has a bad soldering in the dash board, the van can practically predict rainy weather with gauges going nuts (I may finally agree to resolder that computer board...soon)...but what about putting some "DampRid" inside the van, near the dash"...I NEED to try that😂.

About every six months I pressure wash my 2020 Toyota Camrys engine . First rinse to cool down and liberally spray Zep Heavy -Duty Degreaser [ orange ] . No need for agitation with brushes , etc . Then pressure wash with soap and another cycle , rinsing . I plug up the open air intake with a small microfiber towel . And usually cover fuse box with heavy duty plastic and secured with X-Treme EPDM Bands . Next day when the engine is dry . I liberally spray the whole engine compartment with 303 Protectant and let in soak in for hours . This to help rubber and plastic components from drying out and cracking .

It's important on jetliners because it affects the drag coefficient, increasing fuel consumption. A layer of dirt doesn't matter on a passenger vehicle that hasn't had its tires changed, especially if it's hauling a 400lb hog like you.

I clean the engine every year without an issue. On the other hand I had an F150 that everything I cleaned the engine, the coil pack would go out, and the truck would start missing. I don't detail any customers' engines for that reason. Not worth taking the chance.
