In this video my mom GM Pia Cramling and my dad Juan Manuel Bellon Lopez played out the exact same position to show people the difference between how grandmasters think in chess depending on their style. The position was from a Magnus Carlsen game. Hope you enjoy :)

I was confused the first time it happened to me too. It's because white has no legal move. You are not allowed to move your king into check. So Juan put his king into a position that would result in a check if it moved and then forced the engine to take his last two pieces. Thus resulting in a stalemate.

In chess the rule is that if you don't have a legal move left (or only repeating ones) you draw. Anna's dad basically put himself in a position where had no legal moves so it was an automatic draw.

The look on your dad’s face when you told him he doesn’t have to win because your mom won! I really enjoyed this. I would love to see each other’s reactions to how their games were played out. I think your dad got a little too obsessed with pushing the pawn and lost too much material in the process. Genius recovery though!

Reminds me of what another GM said about how Tal's risky sacrifices weren't really unsound, because if things went wrong he always had a draw option ready to go.

The Spanish Tal. Not a bad nickname, I have to say! Lots of comments have already said this, but *all* the streams with your parents have been just great.

I just like exactly that your mom is like really methodical and your dad is like what if push that OK and then still thought about it a lot and that’s what I really appreciate
