Mmm... I think you really don't know how how China operates. All countries have do some market protection measures, in US due to how new ms work those things are dramatised and blasted into world 24/7. China is like that protectionism x1000, quirk of being dictatorship/totalitarian regime. China needs to have total control of their internet, news and platforms so they directly censor and monitor population. This also really helps to control what news leaves the country. And please don't try to say US spies it's citizens too, honestly their spying is pretty damn bad for My northern European standard, but China is in its own class of spying. I mean you can't even call it spying because CCP can just actively filter, censor and monitor everything legally.

What about Falung-gong praticioners (something like Yoga exercises), Tienmen-square in 89, when they send tanks to crush their own people - students, which only wanted few changes and not even fall of regime. Would you call capitalism bad because of it? Tiananmen square and Xinjiang are challenges, but just like Vietnam War protests and American Idians situations, does those events make US evil? Forgive me saying this, at least Chinese government didn't commit genocide and put survives into reserves. Shouldn't judge a system only by its problems. We, the people of world, are all brain washed by our government in many ways and it is time to end the cold war mentality. China is not using the same system as when communism started, its been learning and modifying its system and managed a 40 years of rapid growth rarely seen in Human history. To be honest, foreign internet services and apps didn't quite suitable for the Chinese market. Uber did get harassed, but that's not the ultimate reason for its failure. The business model of Uber just doesn't work so well in China. And everyone else include Apple, Tencent and Alibaba are investing DiDi rather than Uber because the team in DiDi know exactly what local needs. And about Facebook, I think it wouldn't be successful in China at all even if it didn't get banned since 2009. There is a similar service called RenRen which enjoys the entire Chinese market since Facebook left but still failed miserably because of the rise of WeChat. WeChat is just a better way to connect with friends and families rather than constantly harassed by "suggested friends" and countless advertisement. Netflix is a great service but I have to say its subscription fees are way too expensive for the Chinese market. Usually, local streaming service would only cost about 200 Yuan which around 30 bucks a year. It is only 1/4 cost of Netflix service. And these streaming services would produce contents suit the taste of local audiences. I think Google would be the only company which potentially would be successful in China if it was not banned. All Chinese phone company are using Android as their phones' OS. And UKposts is still the best place for creators to upload their contents. Its map service is still superb and other services like Google Docs and Gmail are essential to my daily life. But most people in China just didn't care about Google as I do. About the personal information, average Chinese don't care about this as long as their information hasn't been used to do illegal things like frauds. As a matter of fact, many Chinese even happily handle their information to major websites like Weibo and Alipay which then can be easily accessed by government. I know it sounds really bad but most people in China trust government more than companies from foreign countries. There are constant fears among Chinese people that foreign powers would use any means to destabilize Chinese society and suppress the rise of China.
@norrieh
@norrieh 6 років тому
Leon Lu I agree with what you said. Even if Chinese govns. didn't ban those American apps/companies,they would still be most likely failed. E.g EBay failed years ago even before alibaba rose. I remember clearly how those eBay fees and rules just WOULDNT suit the Chinese markets , so there's no surprises eBay failed so bad in China. And FB or any other social medias , let's just be honest , China has been able to develop our own apps and know what exactly the Chinese market needs. So those American apps wouldn't have to be better than ours I would say. And last but not least , from military and country safety aspect , without using their apps, so there's no way USA or any other countries could sanction China. I m sorry for many other countries that they don't realize how USA can fu*k them because you can't develop your own tech and have to reply on theirs.

Norrie H. If not using the word 'steal' , what words can describe their behaviors the best huh? Copycat? I saw a lots of cloning in the tech industry, in terms of movie, game, social app and more. Like Alibaba, amazon founded 7years earlier than it, so why it fails in china market? Because your government is in fear that richs are going richer and poor are going get poorer. Its funny but it is a fun fact, where your government gotta brainwash their residential. Cloning of Facebook, pokemon go, iron man , clash of clan, Google, UKposts , Netflix, amazon. Long in short, china is cheating using the unfair trading trick, making foreigners to do research, hard work for its own things, while china can basically copy and paste in wikipedia right? its funny Becaude Wikipedia can't even hurt them in terms of economics or smt else, it provides basic knowledges humans should know. In short, the china is just lack of creativity of creating techs knowledge. China is just sucks, using the shortcut to boost their economic anyway. They have 1~2 billions population, it is wow to see those uneducated people getting brainwashed by its government where as their private chat and private photo can be accessed by their government.

You made a game and they make a clone, how the fuck, just they got the funds to colonize peoples' apps idea. and why did it succeed, not Because china men know what their buddies need the most, but Because they derived the benefit of its population and China's regulation. Not sure if the author has ever lived in China...34 movies per year just means for cinema, but on the internet in China, you can easily watch all US movies and dramas. Also if Facebook do the same thing like Tiktok does, which is : building up a separate data center in US, does not send data back to China, and obey all regulations and laws in US, then Facebook can also do business in China. Whereas Facebook and UKposts refused to build a separate data center and accept Chinese laws or regulations.

Chinese companies censors and control information under the command of govt. US companies does the same, only difference being that the control doesnt lie on govt., but a particular interest group that controls mass media, hollywood and most of higher education system. Truth of the day. But actually in the “west” (Europe) it is also done very obviously. Britain has a higher level of internet censorship and video surveillance everywhere. They just don’t target on fb or google etc. Russia, as everyone knows, also has a very severe censorship. China is far from being most strict.
@snowmanckh

The westerners always have a severe doubled standard or choose to be a frog living in a well without realizing that they are in the same situation and critize the others on issues of which they are even worse. PRISM project by NSA was ignored by those blind westerners. But the only difference between China government and the western government is China will inform you that their citizens are being censored but the western government will never admit their censorship which is a behaviour of a hypocrite.

You are right. The 3 reasons are true. I won't argue about the 1st one as it's just a different way to manage your country . Time will say which one is better. As for the 2nd and 3rd, it may seems bad for those foreign companies . But if you are the one who manage a big country and want to be stronger and avoid any other superpower's suppression, you will do the exactly same thing. And me? I'm just nobody living a normal life in China. I've been through the time hating everything the gov did. Now I grew up and I knew there's no perfect gov . Every family got skeletons in the closet. The law probably says "you must give all your data to the Chinese Government". When Governments have those kinds of laws it's basically a 'ban'. If he USA made a law saying that any company that makes products in China can't operate in the USA, the USA would effctively banning all Chinese companies. So yes it is a Ban. In the West these catch-all laws are not permitted. This is why China is seen as corrupt. Because they do not act in fairness.

While almost everything you said had some truth in it, your view is completely slanted. You didn't mention anything about the massive propaganda assault that the U.S. constantly grinds against China. Western media is almost empty of good news events coming out of China such as their amazing response to the Sichuan Earthquake, the fact that they outspend all other nations in green energy development, and spend more to elevate the poor through education, health, and housing programs. For instance, in the last 30 years the American poor and middle class have flat-lined while at the same time the Chinese have experienced a 400% increase in wealth and have seen a huge surge in standing of living -- this goes unreported in the U.S.. If the CIA hadn't weaponized Facebook and other social media, it wouldn't have been banned. They used it as a recruiting and propaganda tool and that just wasn't welcome. Look at how RT is on the verge of being banned in the US and they're just a news show. Imagine if Weibo a major social media in the U.S. and it was being actively used to foment dissent, recruit spies, and slander Washington... it would lose it's licence immediately for being a "hostile foreign actor" as the U.S. gov terms such enterprises. Facebook was a hostile foreign actor, so it got banned. When companies want to do business in the West, they have to follow the local laws. If companies want to do business in the East, they still have to follow the local laws (no matter how must they'd like to think only Western laws matter). Again, most everything you said is true, but you left out some key facts such as Western governments do the same thing, and a lot of those banned companies were actively working against China, were crawling with Western spies, and were scoffing at Chinese law.

It is becoming a game will be won by the company has more money. DIDI has billions of money. Also the operation of Uber has some problem after some time, their system didn't optimize day by day to adapt to Chinese tastes, I believe they really has some problem on localization. Chinese companies are optimizing and rectifying there software every second, to make their customers more convenient and comfortable,.however foreign company is slow on this point.

You did mention 3 different aspect from your angle and I think they are partly right. However you have to know that there is a direct reason why China banned Facebook at the first time, which is about terrorism attacking random citizens. This link is the detailed information about it: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/nmKkppx7roNj1IU.html. After that, China raised some laws to protect their citizens not attacked by terrorism. Google and some other banned companies did not want to abide by this law, while Microsoft and some others was willing to. That is exactly why Google and others being banned. Just ask this question to yourself: How could Google being banned while Microsoft can still run businesses in China? Was it China’s problem or was it just Google not abiding by laws?

Why they ban Bitcoin
@AKK5I

Ł James because they can't control Bitcoin and in China's authoritarian government/economy control of their currency is highly important to them

Wait, isn't China the one with the biggest share in Bitcoin Mining? What are you talking about?!?
@fabianschuler2722
@fabianschuler2722 6 років тому
They didn't ban Bitcoin. They forbid further Icos and closed down the exchanges based in China, this won't stop people from using Bitcoin but it will slow down the capital flight in China, that so far went primarily through real estate and now additionaly Cryptos. Mining is still legal, you can still trade Crypto with people in the country ( although a grey area) but can't convert Yuan into Crypto. What does that mean for China and Crypto ? They leave the infastructure ( mining) in touch, the Coins become harder to get out of the country while simultaneously a lot of the Chinese Crypto companies still bring Capital into China. Icos and Exchanges will return under state ownership, but in the long run they just can hope to keep the Yuan stable for now. With decentralized Vpn and a lot more options for Crypto coming in the future, China has to adapt to Crypto not the other way around. If they do it smartly ( like they are doing now), they will come out of this as one of the big winners.

But Wikipedia is not banned in China tho And regarding the part about bounding id to people's social media accounts, that is actually not a requirement. Feel like a lot of the things you said that are happening in China are not substantial. But anyway, it could be just me, you probably have experienced something different than me.

1. America also control its own citizens and US of A want to control other countries. 2. Every country in the world has had protectionism. 3. Again, most countries on the planet need to have military control over things that could potentially harm the country and the stability of the society. 4. These aren’t really reasons, they are just too broad and can be used as arguments against rival position at anywhere. 5. Broad terms can often translated in different meanings depend on what you believe. 6. I was hoping you did some good research but turns out “meh”.

bert smith welp, I’ve never been there. But I know they are improving in many aspects. Paradise is a not place for living matters, so there is no point judging on this. Btw, it’s really arrogant for people who don’t know the full truth and circumstances judging countries that are less developed. What’s the point? Or is that the common American logic? Looking back at history, we know the truth that neither countries stay No1 forever nor countries being the worst forever. Let me ask this question, will America be the only super power nation forever on this planet? Do you know the real weakness and strength of your own country? Do you know how fast those developing countries are growing? Do you understand what does globalization mean and it’s effect not only to America but also other countries? If you can’t answer these questions and keep talking things like that, I can only say you are just pathetic, heartbreaking stupid and brainless arrogant.

China historically is not an aggressive nation nor a preacher of communism to western democracies. Sadly most tension and misunderstanding between nations now is caused by malicious fake news posted and shared on social media. Shame that such a wonderful learning tool is being mid-used by so many people. I wish you all a safe,long and happy healthy life. Xx
