Good morning from Waxhaw, NC, where it is 40 degrees. You beat me by an hour of my being your first viewer. I don't think you realize how much your family has become a part of our family. So when you succeed or have problems, they become our successes and or problems. The bible says "in all things rejoice and give thanks". @rickster9993
@rickster9993 2 роки тому
OSB? I wouldn't give you 10 cents for a sheet of OSB. If it ever gets wet it falls apart. You have no idea how many floors and roof decks I've replaced because of spilled pops and leaking shingles. A can of Pepsi will melt a hole right through that stuff. I've actually had to repair the holes.
@StoneKathryn
@StoneKathryn 2 роки тому
@@rickster9993 Yeah, the people before us build a garage and put OSB up for all the walls and some of it is powder at the bottom because of the rain moisture rotting through it. They didn't paint it and they didn't put tar paper behind it. The whole lower foot section above the concrete blocks is powder. it has cedar siding and that is what is holding it together. If you bump it it crumbles.

Please consider excavating your (building your) berm as soon as possible. Rain and snow melt (on fall warm and cool days) will run where gravity takes them, you need to divert the water from the building site. Once the berm is in, gravel, french, and natural drains will not be required, since you;ve provided a clear path for the water to flow around your building site. Additionally, it will eliminate ice forming on driveways and walkways to the boiler and tiny house power center. Love the journey, thanks for taking me along. FYI: Wild flowers and day lilies hold berms in place beautifully, and makes bees happy!

Our house burns through 16 cords of wood and the garage between 5-6 depending on what kind of projects we need to do in there. We were told for our size of heating needed the outside boilers would not make much of a difference. We would still have to go heat at night. It's looking great! Congrats on 300k

As wet as it was I would have been very tempted to dump a bag or two of Redi-Mix on the first layers of stone then run the plate compactor on it. Not as rood as a pour but it would have helped bond the rock together.

I was down for quite a while with back issues. The best thing to get me going was a $15 foam roller. I use it every day now just to keep everything stretched. Best investment of my life.

Al, get a small carport to put over the boiler and wood as a temporary shelter. Later on you can use it somewhere else or to store something g somewhere else on the property. It is metal, fireproof, portable and cheaper than wood right now

Yes, you need to cut a swail around your tiny home to direct water away from it. Sometimes creating a burm traps water & gets washed away. Al you & Gina have come SO far! Nice job!

A few things to add to your arsenal of tools: 2 battery powered caulk guns, 2 block & tackle sets, dump truck or dump trailer for hauling supplies around onsite/offsite, store and lumber yard, etc. Overhead winch.

He told me about keeping the smoke stack short. He first put it higher. But realized to run more efficient keep it short. Have fun.

It's all coming along great. Sorry to hear about your back- hope it feels better soon. I know the rocks are a pain to deal with but to me they seem like a blessing in disguise. I love the stone fences , use them as features, maybe with your views on the property a mini castle turret in the woods- could double as a deer stand , around your pond, so many possibilities 🙂
