This reminds me of a book I read from the 1940s about trauma and how as people we want to share stories often with the intention of processing trauma but then we get cut off mid sentence because no one knows how to listen and it leaves us feeling frustrated and incomplete. The bonding moment at the end supported the memory because the two friends finally recalled a story they both experienced the same way because they both suffered the same traumatic experience (literally being chased by a dangerous beast; the most basic example of a "flight" response). They bond because they found a common reality with which their language intersects. It's not very common for our ability to communicate with other people (language) to align so well. They shared language to communicate a shared trauma. This is truly the most beautiful thing that can happen between two human beings. (I'm on vacation right now and have a lot of time on my hands lol)

ok this is going to sound pretentious but 1:33 is the first time in my life I've laughed at funny editing - how have I not seen this type of stuff before? imagine if mainstream comedy productions did this kind of joke within the language of cinema (or video or whatever you cant to call it), it seems we mostly rely on the stuff characters say or do at some given time, when in fact there are so many other ways to be funny (character development, intentionally clumsy costumes (moustache on moustache, fake glasses etc you get it), awkward narratives, intrusive editing....) this channel is in my opinion one of the prime examples of innovative audiovisual humor i know that explaining a joke also kind of kills it and sorry if my comment makes anyone laugh a little less, but I do believe Joel's onto something here and I bet there's some work to be done on the theory of what makes a film funny (of course he's not the only guy who finds new ways of making jokes in films but you know, his channel has the potential to stand as a collection of examples) I'm wondering which influences led him to create this type of comedy

A story about how no one actually gives a shit about anyone elses stories unless it somehow pertains to them. Or it is someone they idolize/ otherwise care about. Also, they ran from a mountain lion and that's the only reason they are friends.

This reminds me of the time I watched a Joel Haver video for the first time.

One thing I really like about Joel's short films is that often there's more going on than is immediately obvious. They encourage you have a think about what they're showing you, but they're not overly showy about it, they don't take themselves too seriously. I think the comedic sensibilities and the home-made feel lend a lot friendliness and accessibility to them. It's a wonder it took so long for his channel to take off. That's UKposts for you, I guess.
