NASCAR is racing on DIRT now! And it’s MENTAL. And this year, they are racing on ovals, F1 tracks, inside Football stadiums and on dirt tracks. NASCAR is shaking things right up!
Yep - they are skidding around at Bristol in the dirt. And it’s great, let me explain.
Well, recently NASCAR has been changing. The days of racing purely on Ovals are gone. They have been seeking a way to inject some variety into the sport, showing the skill of the drivers and attracting new audiences.

@@timjohnun4297No there is not. Eldora is in the middle of nowhere, and Knoxville would need so much changed that I doubt WoW would be happy with. A flat dirt track would also suck in a cup car, and the trucks proved that. Eldora also would need major changes, but it makes 0 sense to renovate and spend millions on (if not more,) just to have the fans not cry because a track lost a date to dirt for something no one went to. Bristol makes so much sense, and it is literally the perfect track built for this. Makes no sense to build all that other stuff. The only thing they should different is remove the windows, continue to improve the cooling, and move the date more towards summer. Eldora also never was as good as the last cup race was at Bristol.

Some of the contact in nascar is fun but most of it is just angry drivers without enough skill to make a clean pass.

@@rasmusjensen8271 You're coming off as a bit of a snarky elitist here. I'm both a NASCAR and an F1 fan and your statement about "angry drivers without enough skill" really doesn't hold. There's a lot of very able and very talented drivers in NASCAR and a lot of them do run very good quality a rather clean races. Yes, sometimes they get a little heated but that's always been the heart of the sport. And using the weight of the cars and the ability to have contact WITHOUT causing crashes is a talent that some drivers can use REALLY well. As far as P2 spinning out P1 on the last lap because he can't pass.... well, if you're talking about Daytona or Talledega... that's unfortunately part of things due to the nature of superspeedway racing, the ruling about not going down to the apron, bump drafting, and sometimes just having nowhere to go. Oh, and if you care about more than just P1, you should love NASCAR because when it comes to the end of the race, things like P11 and P24 and everything actually DO matter because the points don't stop halfway through the field. A driver can manage to have a finish in P25 matter because those points can be the difference between making the playoffs and not doing so.

@@JimTheFly and you're coming off as an inbred boy haha, the way they race in NASCAR is just a lot different than most European series, so when I have grown up on a certain type of racing NASCAR can just seem very strange, and there's also zero advertising for it. It's the exact same thing with European series and American fans, go back to before drive to survive and I think only 1 or 2 out of the 100's of Americans I played with that really knew or cared about F1 and now it's almost a 50/50 (playing car games) I have nothing against NASCAR, but with there being zero advertising for it in my country I can't even name one current driver, yes I could look it up but there's always a European series racing at a more European friendly time haha But yeah the only reason I know that NASCAR is/has changed the cars and tracks they race on is because of a channel that normally covers F1 related things. Not saying I don't want to watch it, but it's a bit hard when they don't even attempt to get me to watch.

Coming from motocross, dirt is REALLY a science as every different environment develops the soil differently. West coast races are known for being dry and slick whereas the farther east you go, the more the soil holds water getting torn up and “ rutted” ( when the powered wheels launch the dirt in the air leaving a groove). It’s also why most dirt races are ran at night so the sun doesn’t dry the track out leaving it a dust bowl like 2021 Bristol dirt.

I remember the first time I did a burnout on a hard packed dirt road. Teenage me back in the 90s had no clue I could do that with a regular road car. "How the hell did I leave rubber on dirt.. oh, right, the same way I leave rubber on pavement" Took me asking that to myself before I realized I was being somewhat braindead for a moment. Still, it will always seem a little weird. Since then I was even more amazed to see skid marks on ice/snow. Not from racing, but from airstrips and the tires of airplanes. Just like on regular paved runways, they will skid on runways like they build in Antarctica.

The next gen cars are not necessarily more aerodynamic, in reality they are more Aero-dependent. The car likely has more drag than previous cars due to the diffuser and front splitter cutout. They did make the car identical on both sides to lessen the affects of “Side force” meaning the cars are more stable when racing side by side (this is to improve the racing, the car is actually slower this way). They also generate less downforce than the previous cars from 2019-2021 due to their smaller spoilers. Also they do not create “less wake for the cars behind”. In practice, the diffuser only makes the width of the wake tighter, with the trade off being that dirty air is stronger when directly behind the car in front, but lessened when offset slightly. In other words, the Wake is not lessened, but simply more precise. Also, I’m assuming you got your information on the Bristol fastest lap record from Wikipedia, because the cup record at Bristol is not a 14.945 and it was not set by Kyle Larson in 2018… I don’t know the exact Bristol lap record, but in 2014 Kevin Harvick qualified on pole with a 14.607 for the Bristol night race. If anyone has any sources on the fastest Bristol cup lap, I would be grateful if you shared them with me

NASCAR has it's origins on dirt ovals. When NASCAR started, and racing in the US in general, a lot of horse tracks were used for car racing tracks. The last time NASCAR ran on dirt was the year 1970 (before bringing it back recently), the race was won by Richard Petty. A lot of people feel that NASCAR running on dirt takes the sport back in a bad way. In my opinion, they don't do it right. They need to remove the windshield and replace it with a rockscreen like every other dirt car in the world... Drivers can barely see as it is with a rockscreen, let alone a windshield that the dust and dirt just builds up on...

When they put dirt on Bristol they host about a month of national (and regional) dirt series (championship) races. Just about every class of dirt oval racing has a big race there in the lead up to the NASCAR race.

I really hope this gets recognition, In Europe we have many short oval racing series just not well known to many, to name a few we have a full contact motorsport called Brisca F1 (700hp v8 Chevrolet engines) racing round many venues on tarmac and shale. We also have non contact series such as National Hotrods. And then there is also speedway which is motorbikes. We need to get more love to these sports as they are great and are home to the Uk! If there is any way I could try and contact you to get you more information for a possible video idea, this would be great as it will promote such a vital motorsport for Europe!

Clay racing surfaces develop blue grooves in the clay faster than Mercedes’ can develop a car to keep Lewis after this season. Even on a 1/10 scale rc course it happens, and that’s where the fun really begins for all classes competing

I grew up going to dirt races with my parents, they’re a lot of fun. You’re also gonna get filthy no matter what. After being at the Watkins Glen race last year in the rain I can’t imagine seeing NASCAR on dirt in person. Sprint cars are likely still more exciting though. They launch about 30 feet in the air when they wreck and flip about 60 times. It’s wild.

As a life long Race Fan who became a Race Car Fabricator I’ve watched Motorsports most of my life from sneaking into the F1pit lane at the Long Beach Grand Prix to the Nascar Races at Riverside Raceway to Ascot Park dirt oval to watch sprint cars! So to say that my knowledge of racing is diversified would be true. What Nascar has done over the past few years is good for the sport and creating this new car is one of the best things that it has done, much like F1 with there new “Swoopy” looking cars

Gen 7 stock cars are a bit of an oddity in the American stock car scene because they are nothing like the cars you drive climbing the ladder to get to this level. All American stock cars typically run solid axel or truck arm rear suspension, and will either have a 1-2 speed power glide (most dirt built and asphalt modified stock cars use this setup) or 3/4 speed H-pattern gearbox (used by the vast majority of asphalt divisions). And while the Gen 7 car is symmetrical in chassis and body design, everything below it on the ladder typically isn’t. Stock car bodies have a lot of asymmetry built into them and it’s not something they get rid of for the road courses. To put it bluntly; Gen 7 is an American spin on the Gen 2 Australian Supercars and it’s delivered mixed results. Road course races and races on intermediate ovals (tracks from 1 mile to 2.5 in length) has been stellar. But short tracks have been overwhelmingly dull and the same can be said about super speedway races (tracks where NASCAR mandates a reduction of power on the cars for “safety” [spoiler alert, it’s had the opposite effect]). Legacy fans of the sport hate many of the changes NASCAR has introduced, and some hatred is justified (looking at you, stage racing and overtime). Gen 7 has been chastised a lot by the legacy fanbase. But the car has achieved most of its design goals in producing better road course and intermediate oval races (which are the vast majority of tracks on the NASCAR schedule).

You guys should cover real dirt racing as well. I work at Lernerville Speedway doing their timing and scoring. It's one of the best and most popular dirt tracks in the US! If you guys would like to cover it in a video, don't hesitate to reply here and I can give my email or something. The way NASCAR does it isn't quite like the real thing :p

It's amazing how NASCAR it seems the most complete series in the world in terms of race tracks and their diversity: intermediate ovals, mile ovals, road courses, superspeedways, street circuits, dirt tracks, short tracks, rovals, stadiums, ovals with concrete instead of asphalt, without even mentioning the specific form of the ovals... It really seems a series where it's extremely difficult to emerge and being competitive overall. Despite this, many NASCAR fans like me raised some criticism to the series. They would love to see back some old tracks like Rockingham Speedway (USA) and Nashville Fairgrounds, they would like to have more horsepower on the car, around 900+ hp like in the Gen4 era and a more fair eligibility of the champion, since the Play-off system and stage racing are highly criticized, basically to bring back the old Winston Cup Series points system used until 2003. Another thing that I would like to see is a field size expanded to 43 cars instead of an average of 36 starters, but with the current charter system to prevent the existance of "Start and park" teams I don't think that it would be possible.
