2023 and I got the 2.8K OLED Yoga 9i Gen7 14" for $800! What a steal! It is open box but basically new. In my opinion, 2.8K is better since it has better battery life and 90Hz refresh rate!

great comparison video! i'm wondering if the off centre keypad (due to the media keys on the right) on the Yoga is bothersome at all?

Thanks for addressing the wifi issue, and answering the question about being able to change colour spaces. The latter is actually something I use on my Spectre all the time, so IF HP upgrade the 14 to 12th gen, then I'm likely to go with that (when it comes time to upgrade) esp if HP also play catch up & put a 1080p camera in as most brands are finally doing. The Spectre 14 currently has a 720p potato cam, not a 5MP, btw. I also quite like the 3k2k aspect ratio. There remains the question about being able to limit battery charging. If that's something HP does not bring back into their consumer line up, then I'll go for a brand that does, as 99% of the time my machine is plugged in. It's frustrating getting swollen batteries (inspite of using a cooling pad keeping dust out of the vents), especially when HP stop making batteries for their machines less than 2yrs down the line. I'm not a fan of the horrible speakers on the spectre 13, but find the ones on the 14 good enough. Just. I do prefer the soundbar on the 9i, but would take the aspect ratio, way better keyboard & abilty to change colour spaces over the soundbar. All a moot point though if HP don't bring back the ability to limit battery charging...

Do both of these laptops face the issue of the touch matrix or that grainy pattern being visible on the screen when viewed closely?

Did you noticed a "screen-door effect" (basically an annoying dotted matrix pattern, presumably caused by the touchscreen digitzer) on the OLED displays? I've read many forums complaining about the effect on the Yoga 9i, as it makes colours especially whites and greys look very grainy. Makes all of these Vesa DisplayHDR certifications, 100% sRGB color gamut, and very high pixel density all useless because of the screen-door effect

Great review of the HP versus Lenovo Yoga! I agree Lenovo Yoga has taken the lead, but the big advantage they have is based on comparing new tech to a year old HP Spectre. Yoga's 12th Gen Intel, 1080p webcam and superior audio give it a clear advantage now, but you pay for it. However I am willing to wait for HP to upgrade the 14", as I liked the upgrades in the Spectre 16". Plus I don't use trackpads, so for me, Yoga's trackpad is simply too big.

You recently reviewed the Spectrex360 16 with a 4k OLED screen, and 11th gen Intel. I'd be very interested in a comparison of that Spectre and the 9i. Obviously the 16 is bigger and heavier, but it's screen is 16:10, 4k. Sound, battery life, keyboard, touchpad, and thermals would be interesting to compare. While it has the previous gen Intel, that might not matter, day-to-day.

Agree on the if the Spectre 14 goes 14 inch 16:10 I'd drop the 9i as well. The keyboard is just so good. Also, update your 9i's BIOS to the April 8th released one as it unlocked the CPUs full performance. Wish HP didn't lock down all their power limits as the 14 and even the 16 had everything locked down for 0 valid reason.

3:2 is superior by far. We primarily spend time on web pages and social media, video is for TV.

Solid review. 9i is the hands-down winner for me. Much better sound, 16:10 4k oled display, better processor and superior build quality and ergonomics. It leaves the HP in the dust.

Battery life? Who won?

My personal experience with HP laptops and their services is, it's absolute shit, and I never recommend HP to anyone, when it comes to Lenovo, their products and services are absolute best. HP only concentrates on what's outside and not on what's inside, and it's not the same case with Lenovo, it offers best performance but not the best look, but with the 9i, I think they just levelled up a bit with both the looks and the performance. I tried both Spectre and 9i, and I am more satisfied with the 9i, with its look and performance.

Wish Windows touchscreen laptops would stop with the MacBook-sized trackpads. Using your finger, pen, or even mouse is 1 million times faster AND more accurate than using a trackpad. Huge trackpads just make it more difficult for touch typists to use the keyboard.
