There is no doubt about it, the Value of this sleeping bag liner will impress you!
This is the Carinthia Grizzly Sleeping Bag Liner and when it comes to adding roughly 10 degrees to your sleeping system, in my opinion this is a no brainer.
The quality is top notch, the temp. rating is excellent, it’s a versatile product that can be added to any sleeping bag to create very low temp sleep systems.
You can even use this all by itself, with blankets and even poncho liners.

Carinthia Grizzly Sleeping Bag Liner
What it is : A lightweight, high quality fleece sleeping bag liner that is priced fairly and comes from a high reputable company; Carinthia.
Agenda Free Link : militaryshop.lv/product/carin...
Materials :
Fleece and Polyester storage bag - I looked at the zipper and saw no recognizable markings
Zipper : Left side
Measurements :
Mummy cut
Length : Material is somewhat stretchy so with that in mind, approximately 88.5”
Width : I measured 35” wide at the shoulders - tapers down to roughly 23” at the foot
Pack Size : 6.5” x 8”
Colors : Olive - You may be able to locate a black liner online but they seem to be very rare. Most sites who are selling this, it’s olive.
Temperature Range : +9F to your sleeping bag
Versions : Carinthia has another liner that is more of a sheet with a center zip; it’s made from polycotton and I do not have any experience with it.
Weight : 1.2lbs with the stuff bag
Price : $68 from the Militaryshop.IV
This is a site that I have found which allows for easy shipment of Carinthia products which are generally very difficult to find in the USA. Their prices are awesome especially for Carinthia products.
From the Company :
“This extremely soft and lightweight fleece sleeping bag uses the finest firbre currently available on the market. For ventilation, open the zipper at the bottom or open the bag up completely and use it as a blanket. Ideal for cabin use or as a liner inside a second sleeping bag making the main bag about 5°C warmer. Trapezoidal foot section and draw cord on the hood.”
My use :
I’ve been using this product for a good part of the summer and currently in the fall and have used it in a number of different ways;
By itself and with other insulation layers.
I’ve used it in a hammock, in conjunction with down blankets, us military poncho liners, and sleeping bags; very versatile liner. Warmest temp was around 65F, coldest 36F.
I will continuing to use this product throughout the winter and if I feel there is a need for an additional video on this, I will make one.
Review Pros :
Warm; this can be used all by itself throughout the summer on the warmer nights
Can be used as a minimal sleeping bag or blanket
Excellent quality
Durability has been excellent so far
Price is very fair
Stuff form factor is excellent
Draw pull at the top
Very lightweight
Very smooth zipper
Feels great against the skin
Makes for an excellent kit with a poncho cv liner or ultralight down blanket; with the right combination you can easily go into the 40’s and stay around 2lbs with your sleep system and you’ll pay around $130.
Zipper is smooth - never had it catch
Review Cons :
There is one size when it comes to this liner so pay attention to the measurements which I stated - Going to be tight for some users.
Summary :
This is an excellent liner; not the lightest in the world but it’s tough, offers good warmth and is versatile. I can easily recommend it especially for the money especially if you are into military and tactical level gear.

Carinthia is a big name in a "circle of outdoor professionals" (military). I have a grizzly liner and S2S Reactor liner. Grizzly is ~ 150g heavier but it is significantly warmer than Sea to Summit Reactor which claims to add 18°C. to the sleep system (not really - more advertising). With Defence 6 sleeping bag + Grizzly, I can stand "Syberia coldness" - no sleeping mat under but a layer of spruce branches. With Grizzly someone doesn't need another sleeping bag in the Summer at a temperature of 15°C and up - and I am a very cold sleepier.

I just got a Carinthia Grizzly Olive liner in from Germany and put it inside my Tropen. It does not get nearly as cold in Oklahoma as it does in Germany but I slept in 28°F (no wind) and was surprisingly comfortable. I am going to sew some straps on to my Grizzly to allow it to be tied to the inside of my Tropen; I was all twisted up in the morning. If any of you are wondering about the Tropen bag, don't let the label "summer bag" dissuade you. That bag is remarkably warm for how lightweight it is. Just sayin'.

Got one of these for 10 years now, and i must say it is one of the best piece of gear that i have. I use it with the 3 different sleeping bags i got, following the temp. Really efficient in hammock, where bags insulation is prone to compress. And in hot summer nights, i use it alone.

Currently living in Carinthia, watching your video praising the brand Carinthia's products😂 of course they would be suitable for harsh alpine weather conditions. Carinthia is in a very mountainous part of Austria

Great timing been thing of getting a bag liner instead of just buying a new bag. I like the idea of having equipment that can be skailed up or down as needed. This will fit that nicely. Thanks Luke outstanding review. Happy Thanksgiving to you and the whole family.

A very practical idea.. I'd use one just as you have.. stand-alone or combined with other light blanket, a sleeping bag, etc. based on conditions. It LOOKS like the fabric has a fairly smooth surface on the inside vs. "fleecy".. which is nicer than many other cheaper liners, which have fleecy texture to BOTH sides, grabbing onto whatever clothing is worn to sleep in and more likely for liner to twist, "wad up" and otherwise not stay where it should! :D Great idea for car camping/overlanding, keeping in vehicle for emergencies, and so on. :D

Great review, I have been looking for something I can use as a liner. I needing something to keep me a little warmer in the cool months for camping here on gulf coast, I have lightweight sleeping bag and when temps drop in to 50s or lower just need something to get that little more warmth. My blood does not flow good in my legs and arms due to PAD so this is just what I need to keep me out there during cool months. Thanks Luke!

I bought into Carinthia products based on this review and others. I just recently spent a night in my WB BBxlc hammock insulated by the Carinthia HUQ under and Carinthia Tropen + Grizzly. It got down to -8 Celsius(17 Fahrenheit) and I was ok albeit a tad chilly on my feet. I know I was pushing it but I wanted to test it out. As to the Grizzly liner. I found the black version and that has a mid zip which is great for hammock use. The zip is only half way down though. It could have been a bit longer I think. Also I’m 178 cm long and have the 185 cm liner. It feels a little bit short. Compared to the Tropen sleeping bag which I also got in 185 that is really roomy I think. But maybe a liner is supposed to be more snug… Anyways so far I really enjoy my gear from Carinthia. I’m in Sweden and I didn’t hear about them before. So finding them was nice. Would be great to see a review of the HUQ hammock under quilt from Carinthia and hear your thoughts on that. I like mine although I don’t have anything to compare it to. It is a bit tricky to set up being a generalized piece of equipment but did fine in my first test night out. Cheers everyone 👋🇸🇪

40 years ago I bought a 3 season bag, and found it too hot for me even when there was a light frost. So a few years later I bought a 1 season bag and a fleece liner. When camping in warm weather the liner gets used on it's own, then the bag, then the combination will take me to around freezing point. They are very versatile. I only do ten to twenty days a year, but they are still going strong. The 3 season bag only gets used when I need to provide a bag for friends or family. My liner has a fleece stuff sac which makes a great pillow when filled with a shirt or fleece top.

My buddy has this and the sleeping bag, and we bought swagmans this year. He loves it. I have yet to bite the bullet and buy the sleeping bag/liner, but there were plenty of nights where my swagman was fine by itself so I can only surmise that these two would make a great piece of kit together.

This looks promising if Carinthia were to do a center opening zip and a barrel shape. I have the cotton/poly liner center zip opening version which works well with my Defence 1 and 4 sleeping bags to keep them clean. I understand it also works with the Tropen and Defence 6 bags. It also works well with my Varusteleka Sarma TST insulated thermal cloak which I can use as a light sleeping bag. To repeat, I got this particular liner to keep my sleeping bags clean, not for additional insulation. The center zipper opening is perfect as I can easily use either hand to unzip quickly to get out of my bags. For those of us who are blessed with broad manly chests in the 50 inch range, this barrel shaped liner allows us to sleep normally rather than feel like a sausage in a sausage casing. On a different note, I would love for Luke to do a review of Varusteleka’s Sarma TST thermal cloak which comes in three different versions - uninsulated, 67 gm Climashield Apex, and 100gm Climashield Apex. Which version he chooses would be what works for him. Thanks!

Have an old liner like this, no idea the brand, but can't recommend this type of liner enough. Have slept out on tops in Ireland and Scotland with sleeping-bag inside a bivvy bag, and the liner inside that, warm and dry. They make a noticeable difference. Interesting! I have often thought that a fleece onesie might be a good way to go because your arms and legs are free. Aiding a quick exit for a midnight pee, while maintaining a reasonable degree of warmth. I'd be interested in something like a heavier weight Coolmax fleece (light warm and wicking), not the stupid cosplay things. I also think that this liner is large for me & I'd consider trimming it or turning it into said onesie. I have a poncho liner that I currently use to boost my sleeping bag, plus a couple of other lighter weight liners, depending on season. I like the poncho liner because with a little modification, it can be worn as clothing, which makes for a relaxed & cossie breakfast. It generally only goes as low as -10 C around here, so I'm probably pretty well set but gear alternatives are always interesting. Appreciate the videos.

You can lower your temperature rating a lot by wearing down booties, down pants and down top. The comfort rating is by itself and fleece might have more air passing through it by itself, so pairing it with an outer lining might boost the temperature rating a lot more because of stopping that air movement. I think the weight is average to a little heavy, so what you pear it with shoud be very light.

I believe the black one comes with a central zipper (stops midway of the SB) instead of a lateral one, also the black one has straps all around it, which can be used to secure the liner inside carinthia sleeping bags. I own a "XP top Carinthia" it's a 3-in-1 sleeping bag, it's wind and water resistant, it has a central zipper and comes only in large size so you can put another sleeping bag in it to protect it from the weather AND make it warmer. It's temerature range is around 0,9°C (33.62000℉) and only wheighs 1200g (2lb 10.32oz), it also has loops inside to secure the black "Grizzly" liner inside. I've never seen a video review of the "XP top" it would be amazing to see your opinion about it especially with the compatible "Grizzly" liner.

I bought the sleeping bag that was supposed to be big enough for me, I am 6’ about 235 , if I laid on my back it was extremely tight around my shoulders, so I have a seamstress that is cutting the neck choker hole in two spots to relieve the crushing and I will be using it like a quilt. Gonna have to pass on the liner as it will most likely be to small. ( I wish it was bigger ).

I bought it after seeing this video and actually I'm laying in it now in my bed watching tv.. because I like it a lot. Very comfortable! Tonight I decided to break the noisy zippers though and put paracord instead. So.. I like the liner bit I didn't like the noisy zippers and the iron was cold on my skin so replaced that. P.S. The survival store where I bought it also had the black one.. but if I remember correct the zipper was only half way to my chest instead of all the way down to my feet.. and I wanted to be able to zip it all open and lay my feet out if I want or get out easily. I'm gonna use it soon in my hammock with Snugpak Antarctica, app. -3°C at night. Snugpak has the zipper in the mid. What I found out is that this grizzly liner can also be used with the zipper on top.. I just turn the liner half way around. The mummy part is not exactly between my head in this scenario but that doesnt matter a lot when I close it anyway. So with this one compared to the black one I have more options in how to use it.

Looks great. Unfortunately as a side sleeper mummy shape liners/bags just don't offer enough room inside.

I am a side sleeper too. Check out the Big Agnes Sidewinder bag, perfect for side sleepers.

Do they make it for rectangular sleeping bags too?

That looks huge to me for just a +9 degree liner. That stuff sack in your hand looks only a little smaller than my 0 degree sleeping bag. That could be really nice and comfy by itself for the summer time though, when my normal sleeping bags are way too hot.

Yeah watching this I'm all "Luke that ain't a liner, that's a summer bag!"

My 20 degree EE bag is ALMOST half that size !! If the weather permits that would be a good stand alone back in the summer. I have no idea what Luke wears when he's out at night in The Great outdoors but that is going to significantly change for each one of us and thus the temp rating/comfort. Here in the desert in summer if I could take my skin off I would 😂

I'm the same...It's like a chunky nugget for just a liner. Must add...I sweat in fleece. Easily.

@@trakyboy5128 What do you use? I generally use a Snugpak Jungle Bag as my main summer bag because I like the bug net if I'm using a tarp shelter, and I sometimes use a Sea to Summit Reactor liner and/or woobie with it if I need extra warmth. I have one of the older US Modular Sleep Systems for colder weather, but it's so damn bulky and heavy. I wouldn't be against finding ways to make more use of the jungle bag.

@@wanderingcalamity360 I literally just re-discovered my Jungle bag with Mozzie/bug protection hood in the garage the other night. I moved here a few years ago and forgot it in the move. Coming into Summer here...it will be perfect! Cheers!

There seems to also be a black one with central zip available in UK - is that the same material and quality ?

Luke do you think it would work with the Def 4? I'm sceptical because of the location of the zipper. I purchased the light weight liner when I bought my Def 4 sleeping bag. My only regret was not getting the large.

The warmer bag liner is a great bit of kit. I have a Sea Summit reactor fleece. That plus Alpkit Bivy in my bag for the "unplanned" overnight stays. Or with sleeping pad and the onewind poncho/quilt or onetigris light patrol bag for planned overnighters.

Will it still work well if you're using a down quilt as opposed to sleeping bag?

Can I use this in winter..

That's a right handed zipper, when your inside of course, which is the norm for reference (including the maker) purposes.
