The ruling elite have purposelydemonized anything even remotely alluding to Carl Marx, since his ideals directly threaten their power. But continuing to be fearful of his name perpetuates the fear of socialism, the perpetuation of demonizing those who dare to even remotely be similar to his ideals, which again, threaten the ruling elite and support the middle class and poor. The ruling class basically killed the socialist by equating them with communism . What people like chris hedges and chomsky is saying lets build a better society a true democratic one . No one is advocating communism. Socialist democratic societies like Scandinavian countries . Some of the wealthiest and happiest citizens .

Chris Hedges quotes Marx because Marx was a genius. But when Hedges uses terminology from socialism, I want to tell him to go stuff it. He sounds like an academic do-gooder talking about what's best for the hoi polloi... without wanting anything to do with us. The language of socialism is not going anywhere in the U.S. It is one of the things that killed the Green Party candidate in the governor race in NY state a few years ago. The programs of a social democracy - like single payer and student loan forgiveness - now they have a future here. But not the language of socialism. That is a big turn off. Just use practical language - solutions. That is what Americans want. They certainly do not view their destiny as being "workers." Let's face it. The lives of "workers" are not very interesting. I doubt Hedges or his actress wife would enjoy being plain old working class one bit.... as much as he likes to talk about it. But fundamentally he is a rare example of the meritocracy, right?

It's the narcissism of people who are in power that are effecting the rest of nation, which happens to be mostly be very rich people. On top of that it has been clearly shown that there are strong connections between great wealth and narcissism. And you want to get rid of rid of money, and hope that people will just start behaving better? I really doubt we will come up with an alternative to money anytime soon...Also it's ridiculous to expect society to behave "civilly" all by itself. Thats why every great nation has a legal system in place.

I agree wealthy people has a special case level of Narcissism that affect most of the WORLD population; because the benefits they receive for being "successful". Yet, with or without a money system, certain circles of people behave more Narcissistic than others;frequently, committing crimes to get their objectives. Like money; the legal system, is just a tool to improve human relations. But the tool without members is meaningless. As money without humans is meaningless.Yet, Humans without money have existed before. I agree, we can't expect everyone behave civilly at the same time every single time. But things will improve a whole lot more if people have the habit to try it. But the rational now is to get as much as possible in the less time possible... and.that is expected and enforce when not fulfilled...
