Al I have a suggestion, maybe not for this year, but if you take the deep bedding material and mix corn through it, spread it in the pig area, they will turn and compost further once they smell and route around for the corn.

I lived in Colorado for 28 years and had good friends that farmed all their lives and when I (who originally came from outside Philadelphia,PA) would complain about the smell of compost, my friend would say “that’s the smell of money to us”. Just thought I would share that memory. I’m 84 now and living back in my home state PA. I enjoy your show.

The guard hair on Brutus's back is getting outrageous as he grows into his adult coat. You really picked a beauty when you got him! ~ You got a lot done in this video: changed out the tracks for tires; dug that trench -- it was so much fun watching Brutus play; played the song for Gina and made her cry, lol; stretched the wire in the new animals' enclosure; added the insulation all around; cleaned out the old barn and started a compost pile; cleaned out the chicken coop; and took Brutus for a short ride. It must have taken a week to do all that!!

@@ritalamy5866 contrails were always so cool to see. It is SO cold up there, vapor from the heat of the engines immediately crystalizing to cloud shapes. That's what Cirrus clouds are way up. The wispy angel wings looking ones. They are are crystals. The same when you see a ring around the moon. I always enjoyed science and weather as a kid and still do.😁❤️

Al, after you have cleaned up and fixed the tracks, you should put them on a pallet and place them up on the mezzanine in the workshop. Out of the way but protected from the elements.

Back in the 50-60, l was growing up on a farm. The barn had 12-10X10 stalls and every spring l had to clean out each one using a pitch fork. We loaded the manure in a spreader and put it on the fields. Yes, it did smell.

I'm so glad to hear that yesterday was a glorious day! It's been rainy here but my sister and I went plant shopping so that made it a lot of fun. The plant places were not crowded and we had plenty of time to look at everything. We got some 89 cent plant starts and some flowers to plant. She has a "flower bed" in her front yard with an old iron headboard and footboard that she plants with flowers and a lot of nice pots along the patio and the front entrance. Everything is blooming and the trees have their leaves back. Such a wonderful time of year! I hope you have a blessed day too!

a long time ago I commented on putting the pigs in the main barn that it was going to smell terrible, and one commented no it won't be smelly because they are going to make the bed extra sick double bedding I guess they called, and I can't see where that will make a bit of difference except more slop, I would make a barn altogether separated from the rest of the barn because I do believe that is going to smell so bad, probably won't even find it enjoyable even walking through the barn. Just giving my opinion about that. Growing up I lived on several farms and I've never seen one that the pigpen did not smell too good,

Watching you and Bruster working on the sod replacement made me laugh. I was remembering when my husband was taking out a swingset in the yard and our black lab Ollie was helping. My hubbies was on his knees digging out the dirt around the cement we used to foot it in the ground with his hands. The puppy was right next to him digging with his paws spraying the dirt right into my husband's face. I was laughing like crazy watching through the kitchen window. My husband wasn't.

Al, your TYM seems to be making a louder whining noise. I have a hydrostatic drive tractor myself, when it gets noisy while driving it is usually in need of a filter change for hydraulic system and even a screen cleaned down inside the tractor on occasion. Just a heads up to prevent any future problems. Love what y’all are doing! Keep up the good work!

This reminds me of when I was a kid of mucking out the barnyard and the chicken coop. I’m now 75 and I can still smell it. We would compost it in the manure pile and then put it in a machine called the manure spreader and put it out in the pastures and fields. This was before we had all the fancy methods for fertilizers.

Had a herd dog when I was young on the farm big dog , 98 lbs. That was 50 years ago he hated to go in the truck. Still remember that dog and so does my family and friends. Fantastic protection herd dog and yard dog.

Plenty of frost tolerate vegetables can be in the ground... broccoli spinach cabbage peas are a few...they take a light frost nothing real hard like in the 20ies...oh and Swiss chard,kale can be added to the list...been cutting asparagus for three weeks now in Jersey love that veggie...🖖

Soooo cute you are doing so good with taking it slow getting Brutus in the side by side and cars. Keep it up. He will fight and run but if you make him go 😖😤🥺then he will get used to it like you are doing. It makes me feel bad at the beginning but it pays off when your dog “ guardian buddy” is not afraid of anything, he is confident and trusts you solely it will make his job easier and your job easier. I’m so proud of you guys. I can tell he’s so happy and just loves you so much.

The earlier in life you take your dog for a ride, the better. They need to be able to get used to the motion or they'll have motion sickness. Helps if you have a good reward at the halfway point like a good swim or run, Ice cream or a burger. You can also train them to run alongside your vehicle by starting off with low speed runs with them on a retractable leash and you driving. I used to take all four of my lab mix dogs on my 3 hr daily motor delivery paper routes and they would have a blast. The first one taught the other three how to run with the car.
