Thing is the apps have changed drastically since before COVID. Before 2019 it was pretty good, i'm not a bad looking guy and on Tinder I used to get about 7 or 8 matches a week with swiping once every 3 or 4 days, i'd miss out on quite a few women who swiped me as well as I wasn't interested. Bumble was much better, it'd be maybe 5-15 a week depending how active I was, but the quality was far higher than tinder and way more of them actually spoke, most Tinder matches never speak or can't manage more than one word replies. Since COVID started it's tanked, we are talking 1 match on Tinder every week or two and they are all incapable of speaking or holding a conversation, Bumble was still better at maybe 1 or 2 a week until i got banned for saying to a woman that i'm not putting pronouns in my profile as it's nonsense. Unfortunately i'm looking for a proper woman so i'm not putting anything that'll attract gold diggers to increase matches, it's futile. I was in 2 asian countries last year, one of them is an advanced country with people who don't actually want to leave. I used both apps in major cities and in smaller ones and the apps became almost unusable as every day it was 300+ likes and when you swiped pretty much anyone you swiped yes to was an instant match, problem is the conversations all got buried, in the poorer country many of them were using translator apps to speak to and actually didn't speak English so you'd meet and it would be awkward as hell. I think the problem is North America, Canada/USA where I live, something has changed here with online dating.

Yeah, I feel the "self-inflation" of attractiveness is definitely a big part. Even without makeup, it's a commonly known and well-researched phenomenon - people will tend to rate themselves higher than average (usually 7/10), even if they are perfectly average or under-average. If it makes you feel better though, parts of this video that are inherently misleading or straight-up wrong if you understand how human perception works. The subject is quite average in terms of looks. There's a lot of research done on this topic, but the fact is that if you think someone is "just above average" they are probably just average. And I don't think everything else is particularly impressive either - the only *real* strength he has is his tall height, and that is even offset by some of the other profile points that make him less approachable. No offense to your friend, but it seems like he is as average as can be (which is normal), so it is only to be expected that he isn't getting tons of girls on these dating apps. In an environment where there are many more girls than guys, it makes sense that girls are more "choosy" and your average male isn't getting many hits. It's simply logical - he's not as "good" as the video makes him out to be, and being perfectly average on a dating app usually doesn't cut it.

I'm into alt fashion right now (kinda goth) and use eyeliner, nail polish, and other accessories like earrings I'd say I'm a 6/10 in terms of looks... but slightly above average in terms of my body since I work out. Same here...I'm 36 and just started...it's as bad as they say. Most women won't even have a conversation anymore, even though they lose absolutely nothing but time. I have gotten about 5 matches in 3 months and I'm not that great looking...one date (she was new to dating, too and an introvert as well, but wasn't what I wanted as she was also too busy to date and seemed indifferent), but the other women...one was an absolute racist...one wanted friends with benefits, but wouldn't be my first (I'm a virgin, too), and one wanted to control everything in my life after only 2 days of conversation. You're right, men do tend to screw everything up. It's that nothing to lose attitude. They just don't get the point and don't wanna move out of the way for the next guy.
