If you need an agent for Egypt of the Suez Canal use Felix Group. They are the only Agent I would trust. We had problems with one of the other Agent for Egypt.

Very good episode. We did the Red Sea last January and it is a whole bunch of motoring, we had winds being up until Port Sudan and then wind on the nose from there. We have also been told Jeddah yacht club have a new offer of something like $25 for 2 weeks including entry fees, our friend is doing the downward trip this September. Our main take away was to avoid Egypt as much as possible, we found it corrupt and overly dogmatic with regulations. Remember there is nowhere better in the world to dive especially Sudan and Saudi. Your advice about agents was spot on, we had agents in all possible countries and had to use the one in Sudan, who was great. We used Felix for Egypt and they were great, but don’t take any shit from any agent you use. The main thing is not to trust the western press about the Middle East, we found most places extremely friendly and helpful

I am glad you both made it through the canal safely.For me I would not go through that canal ,just to much drama on the water for me .
@SailingAquarius
@SailingAquarius 10 місяців тому
Going through the canal was very easy and safe. The Red Sea will be a great place to sail as soon as Saudi Arabia opens up for the sailing community. I think this will happen in the next few years.

Great video and thanks for the valuable information and feedback. Questions: If you end up in Maldives infuture would you consider to cross directly to Djibouti and then enter the Southern part of the Redsea!? Thanks again for the lovely informative content you share. Regards Stay safe

If I was in the Maldives again, I would head to South Africa, stopping it Seychelles, Tanzania, Madagascar, and other countries on the way. Only because I haven't seen this part of the world. But, I like the route we took, and would not have changed a thing.

What are your thoughts on a fuel conditioner to keep the fuel clean?
@SailingAquarius
@SailingAquarius 9 місяців тому
Biocide..... I think it's a good idea to use it, especially in humid climates. I could be wrong, but from what I understand, 1 The crap that grows in the tank grows at the bottom where the water from condensation collects. The Biocide kills the growth. 2. But, also a good think to try to keep water out of the diesel tank.. Keep your diesel tank mostly full in humid climates so the moisture does not get in the tank.

in 2023 19 mater motor yacht was attacked in international waters of coast of Yemen. eSysman SuperYachts did video on this. Yacht got bullet damage.
@SailingAquarius
@SailingAquarius 10 місяців тому
You should read the story. 1. according to the Yemeni officials that yacht came in the 5 miles off the coast of Yemen. 2. The Yemeni officials tried call them on VHF but the yacht didn't respond. 3. Yemeni officials thought the navigation of this yacht was suspicious so the chased the yacht. 4. The yacht opened fire on the Yemeni patrol boats killing 1 and injuring several others. 5. The Yemeni patrol boat opened fire on the Yacht. If this side of the story is true, then the captain will be detained when he reaches Saudi waters. .

@@SailingAquarius Not the same yacht. Incident you describe involved classic 45m superyacht Kalizma, not the modern 19 m yacht called "30 minutes".

@@SailingAquarius and in 2022 Lakota, a 19-meter sailing trimaran, was attacked too.
@SailingAquarius
@SailingAquarius 10 місяців тому
Lakota - They also made some BIG mistakes! Stay close to the shipping lanes in this area. Yemen in a civil war and the captain sez there is a "navigation hazard" he must avoid? So he goes in close for a look at the Yemeni shore. I question this captains decision making process, and the entire narrative of this Story.
@connannbarbarin3033
@connannbarbarin3033 10 місяців тому
@@SailingAquarius irrelevant if they made a mistake! You said you only know of one attack in 2011 (is it Capricorn?) in lest 20 years and now you know of more

So, you're saying to hire an agent in each of those countries even if you're not sure if you'll go there? Do you only have to pay the check-in and visa fees if you actually end up stopping there?
@SailingAquarius
@SailingAquarius 10 місяців тому
You don't have to pay them unless you check into the country.
@Chris-zo5ze
@Chris-zo5ze 10 місяців тому
@@SailingAquarius same with the agent?
@SailingAquarius
@SailingAquarius 10 місяців тому
Yes. You don't pay anything to have the agent on standby for your arrival. But if you have an emergency and try to arrive without an agent....good luck! You can always say " the winds were good and we sailed by". We did that with our agent in Sudan. He said " hope to see you next time!". I didn't pay anything to the Sudan Agent, but I would have if I had to stop in Sudan.
