i'm korean judoka, and basically what you are saying were correct. have you ever heard of moon-jin lee he was in the army for the last two years. Joonhwan lee will make gold in paris.

Yes, a Korean which takes gold medal in Asian Championship or World Championship doesn't have to do military service.

Only Olympic medals or Asian game gold medal

Not necessarily a World Championship title, but a gold medal in Asian championships or any medal in the Olympics qualifies as his military service. Lee did not do his military service yet, and it is usually 18 months of service!(varies among branches)

Even if lee don't take a medal, lee can serve in the military in the direction of playing judo in korea armed forces athletic corps

Gold in Asian Games and any medals in Olympics grant military service exemption. Nothing else. And even if Lee doesn’t win any medals in Paris, I don’t think he’ll disappear. In Korean military, there is a special unit for elite athletes that allow them to compete internationally. I remember Kim Won Jin from U60 used to compete internationally while he was in military few years ago.

I would put schimidt in place of Albayrat. Good job from him at the european championships, but I see Schimidt more consistent and a more complete judoka overall

As a korean, I'm pretty sure he didn't finish the military service...but if you get at least bronze in the olympics he would be freed...
