I watched this one again the other day. To work up an appetite for the upcoming Lopez fight. I was like everybody else. Live: looked like a robbery to me. However, watching it again, analysing it with cold reason, it was much closer than I remember. I scored it a draw in terms of rounds won, with Catterall winning by two points between the knockdown in the 8th and the point deduction from Taylor for hitting after the bell at the end of the 11th. Parenthetically, I thought both point deductions daft and was pleased they ultimately cancelled each other out. The reason why it seemed to be a robbery on the night, was owed to the fact that we all, right or wrong, did not expect much from Jack. And so when he frustrated Taylor, landed more, and the better, punches and even scored a knock down. It felt like an upset had been pulled off. In reality, Josh, failing to establish his rhythm with the jab, does ugly work on the inside and wins rounds. Some of them purely by outworking Catterall. It is not eye catching. And we were anticipating better from him. And so it looks lacklustre compared with our expectations. Between our high expectations of Josh and how little we expected from Jack: the illusion of a robbery is effected. Now, there is an unspoken rule in boxing that one cannot take a title off of a champion - winning by only the skin of one's teeth. It has to be a comprehensive victory. If you agree with that: I think it is a draw. Otherwise Catterall wins, but barely.

It's so funny that people tend to knowingly ignore how good Taylor is because of this fight. This is a close fight and it wasnt taylor's best performance but before this fight taylor has beaten guys like prograis, ramirez, baranchyk, postol etc who are top fighters at 140lb. Taylor is a supremely talented good fighter.

I wasn't going to watch this fight again, but I'm glad I did. I didn't think it was a robbery the fight time, but I had it a draw. I watched the fight at the time on a second TV with the sound turned off because I was watching another MMA fight on my big screen. Now watching the second time the 114-111 scorecard was spot on. I had Taylor winning 8 rounds to Catterall's 4. We all gave Catterall credit for being such a big underdog and carrying the press to hype the fight. The Catterall push at the weight-ins and bully tactics also help to give the impression that he was doing more than what he actually was. Now as far as the ref goes, I understand as a fighter you want the ref to stay out of the fight as much as possible, but both guys were using bully tactics the entire fight. Catterall kept either pushing Taylor's head done or putting Taylor in a headlock and turning his back to Taylor in the clinch. Taylor was responding with rabbit punches. Catterall was also continuing to hold for too long after the ref tried to break them. At the time when Catterall lost the point he held for too long on the break and continued to push Taylor's head down at the same time. The ref did nothing wrong and took a lot of unfair judgment. Bottom line, Taylor won the fight, Catterall lost the point for a reason, and I would have still liked to see the rematch but I think the Teo fight is tougher and Taylor would have beat Catterall easier in the rematch. That's just my opinion but the fight was not a robbery by any means.

Josh was fighting dirty. I get it if he’s losing, but he uses his head like battering ram. Hiring off the break. Catterall had Josh hurt a few times, but Josh being dirty willed his way back into the fight. Plus the ref was was siding with Josh. Hard to fight two guys at once

I honestly didn't think Catterall was as good as everybody is saying. He was backing up the whole fight and made it hard to score rounds for him. Punch stats strongly favor Catterall, but the actual flow of each round didn't look that good for him.

The tartan fraud. I'm still shocked at how Taylor won this. Even the 113-112 scorecard for Catterall was a joke as he won by a landslide in my opinion. Taylor only won 2-3 rounds max. How Taylor thought he won this proves how deluded he is & Catterall obviously gave him brain damage in this fight.

I've watched this fight twice now, both times muted, and I had no clue who either of these two were before this fight. I'm only watching it as "research" for betting on an upcoming fight with Catterall. And despite how the comment section feels, I can tell you right now, even as a casual, this was not necessarily a robbery. Though I don't necessarily agree with the final decision, it's pretty fair and not totally unexpected. I personally scored the fight 113-112 for Catterall. I could honestly see it going the other way, but I gave round 9 to Catterall, not because he necessarily outboxed Taylor, but because Taylor spent such an enormous amount of that round initiating clinches that I honestly saw it as being significantly worse than just running around the ring like the last three rounds of DLH v Trinidad. I gave that round to Catterall because Taylor flat-out refused to box most of that round. This little bit that he did box, I think he did as good or perhaps better than Catterall, but Catterall was TRYING to fight, where Taylor was REFUSING to fight, so I gave it to Catterall. And honestly, there are a couple more rounds I COULD have done that for, but I was trying to be as fair and impartial as possible. That being said, rounds 2, 4, and 7 could have EASILY gone either way but I gave all those rounds to Taylor by maybe 1% because it was just that close. All-in-all, I think Catterall deserved the win. But this was not anywhere near a robbery. On top of that, the judges tend to favor the scorecards in the champ's favor. Again, I'm not saying that's right, but all things considered, I'm surprised the judges even scored the fight this close with a split decision. They're usually MORE corrupt than this. If Catterall came into this fight with all the belts and was considered the bigger cash cow and he fought this way, the judges would've likely favored Catterall in a UD by giving him all of the closer rounds.

Taylor won, it was his worst performance but he won, catteral didn't win any of the last five rounds, drew one or two of them at best. The referee taking a point from catteral for pushing down swayed it to even or a win for Taylor. But catteral was holding on for dear life that round. The relentless pace of Taylor got to him.

Just caught this bout. Read that some boxing writer said this was a horrible decision. Totally disagree. Bout was extremely close. Punch stats were ridiculous. Don’t know who was keeping them, Catterall’s Papa. Catterall clearly deserved a 1 point deduction for excessive holding but the 2nd point deduction was debatable. Would have been a draw with the 1 point deduction. Catterall wins without a point deduction by SD. This bout did show that Josh Taylor was clearly not as good as advertised, tho, making Teofimo Lopez UD over him almost predictable considering that that bout was held in NYC not Taylor’s home country of Scotland.

Taylor won that fight. It was a war for sure but toss up rounds go to the champ. And the cards were all fair. Even the one that went to Catteral wasn’t bogus. The real villain is the ref taking that point away but not taking one away from Taylor for continuing to do the same thing. The ref was doing way too much.

I had this fight for Taylor as well! It was a close fight and a really good fight but Catterall faded in the end, Taylor did take a lot of the championship rounds. Catterall did amazing work but people give Taylor too much criticism for this one. Top rank did decent commentary on this one, Taylor really forced a win here. I agree with Andre's scorecard too(he scored it for Taylor).
