I've been a carpenter for 25+ years and I must say that for someone with no previous experience, you did a marvelous job especially considering you had no vehicle other than your bike and trailer. Bravo.

So true! But women are crafty, have great common sense, and wonderful planning capabilities. I, myself, learned on the fly with my home. Just wish the previous owners had done things properly; I spend the majority of my time undoing their "repairs," and then I can improve from there. It's very satisfying, seeing that you're capable of so much more than you thought!

My approach is to have the essentials for comfort ready, like a gas space heater, a gas water heater, a water tank & pump, some kind of simple shower module, toilet module and kitchen setup with a water filter, a tarp and barrel rain water catchment system, a solar system and a petrol generator, and a bunch of tools, like a chainsaw with a portable "Alaskan" lumber mill, to make my own planks. A modern settlers kit if you will. For a small cabin like this, it can be very compact and cheap.

You're blessed to still have your parents around. I have friends who rely on their parents at 40+ age and I know it's my personal experience. Lost my Mother at age 9, then my Father at 12. My maternal grandparents kept me for a year before their health was deteriorating. Then off to my paternal Grandmother who was the light of my life. She came from a farmer's hard-working background, sewed, made quilts, gardened, canned, and was frugal. It served me well. She saved all my Social Security checks and when I graduated high school 🏫 added my name to the account. I had 2 scholarships plus social security and went to college. First junior then State. I came so close to being part of a system, yet by all grace from our universe became not only independent but grateful. ❤

Wow, my hat off to you lady. I spend 6 years renovating an old Dutch house from 1915 into a very modern house that could fit into a house magazine. I thought it would never end and remember thinking 3 years into the build that if I just keep going then one day that unfinished house that I was starring at will be a finished house starring back at me in the future. That time came and its a joy every time I walk from my garden to my house and see my beautifull home standing in front of me. It was very hard, and took so much effort, but its one of the things I'm most proud of in my life. Keep up the good work, one day it will all be done and you will have learned so much about building and yourself.

Good work! May I mention that old wooden houses needs to breathe to avoid mould and water damage. So try to use traditional materials and methods. The attic is for “even out” the temperature and to build rooms up there you need to be careful not to cause mould and moisture. In general try to use flaxseed paint and stay clear of the yellow mineral insulation. Looking forward for more updates! ❤

@@danab4337 depending how cold it gets on winter in ur country u need more insulation on the walls (thicker walls). Am in construction and that's how here in Finland a more modern requirement house is made (ofc just one way of duing it, but hopefully you'll get a little bit of understanding). Just make sure theres caps in between layers. Outside panelling, planks horizontally, windproof board, glass/sand wool insulation, here modern houses usually have steam/moisturize plastics that are sealed with vulcanizing tape. Then Horizontal square wood poles or similar with 400-600mm caps, fill the caps with more wool. Lastly put chalkboards and after that u can even the walls and paint em ect.

If there's space inside the roof and ceiling there should be a big layer of insulation as well. Same with the floor, use wool and some insulation board. Just make sure there is room for air to dry out layers and nothing is directly on top of each other or against plastic

So nice to see someone taking such good care of this old cabin! 😁 There are so many old houses and cabins just like this one here in Sweden that sadly are just left to fall apart..

Well done Rosie, hope the video also made you realise how far you have come, I have seen so many give up, because living in the building mess is really hard, keep your chin up and carry on, whenever you get to the outside it will be easy!

Wow, you are amazing! I was almost moved to tears by watching this. Coming here to Sweden, taking on such a project in the bad state it honestly seem to have been, with little to no DIY experience (or access to help that did) and doing what you've done so far, Fantastic, you should be so prod of yourself. If you can do this, you can do anything! If I lived nearby I would have helped you get som material delivered! ;-) I will certainly follow your story! Keep it up!
