The US government plants more trees than it cuts down, but the rest of the american population cuts down more than it plants, so all in all the US has negative growth. The people cutting down the trees are usually people who develop properties or are expanding the agricultural capacity of the country. Simply put; developed land generate more financial resources than a forrest. The US government does plant alot of trees, but it still lets people buy forrests with intent of cutting them down. The government does this because it leads to GDP growth, and also more workplaces and also higher industrial or residential capacity.
