I was there with my Pa...he lost a bet with my brother and ended up loving it. He loved all music, and used to take me to the Big Band concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. He called a lot of what Genesis did “modern jazz.” Happy Days! I won’t forget that wonderful experience with my father. Sadly he passed away in 1996. I miss him, and this brings back very happy memories ❤️

This concert on tv in Germany was my first very impressive contact with Genesis. As a about ten years old boy I knew "I can't dance" and "No son of mine" and then I watched that show. Although it was a pay tv station they sent it for free. (THANK YOU PREMIERE!) I was overwhelmed with visual and musical impressions of this fantastic concert. Then there was the repitition one day later. I watched it again with a pencil and a sheet of paper near by me and I wrote down every song that I wanted to buy for myself on CD. It was a very long list for only one show (and I was surprised that I had to buy so many different CDs...). Invisible touch, Turn it on again, Home by the sea, I Know what I like, Mama, The lamb lies don on broadway, Follow you follow me, Domino with the great visual effects for that time, and there were even more. So many different types of songs in only one concert by ONE band, not a festival of many bands, so many loud and quiet moments that gave me feelings that I never had bevore. It seemed to be a compilation of great songs that I heard once before in the radio. Like a best of music. That concert was the entrance to music for me to great songs of Genesis and other bands. Thank you guys, thank you Phil, Tony, Mike, Chester, Daryl and all the old members of Genesis and the co-workers that you opened the door to music for me.

Daryl Stuermer is just huge. This guy is underated as he is not part of the Group's 3 members and is almost always in the left in the back of the exposure, but he gives so much feelings, his notes are so harmonious, even his look fits perfectly the image of Genesis and a Rock guitarist that he deserves to get a lot of praise

Genesis (my first band I turned to for better music in this day and age) I found out after 6 years of enduring their music not only have I found such talent in EVERY single member that came to the band but the charm their music especially their 70's music and early 80's before they hit commercial success but I have negatives through it's fanbase. you may opinions and it's fine to express them but please for the sake of future fans who wish to join us I feel some of the hate given to stuermer is uncalled for. I watched an interview online with Daryl and his first experience with Genesis in 78' and he simply played what he was given yes it may not please everyone but as I've come to see over the 6 years but he just did his job and was happy with himself at the end of the day knowing he put on a great show. No I'm not taking sides I never will ever think about doing it in the first place its a waste of energy. I appreciate all eras from 1969 through all the way to now. IF it wasn't for these fabulous musicians, I would have no clue what good music sounds or feels like end of story.

There is always the discussion about the music style of Genesis. They went from progrock into poprock or whatever. There different styles prove how enormously talented they are. They were fantastic as a progrock band, but they where also fantastic as poprock band. Songs like Land of Confusion, Intoo deep, Hold on my heart, Jesus he knows me and so on are awesome. But songs like Afterglow, Entangeld, Duchess, Undertow are master pieces. And later songs like Driving the Last Spike, Dreaming while you sleep, Fading Lights are competive to the older songs. Maybe not in complexity, but certainly in terms of brilliancy, talent, lyrics and harmony.

It's not often a a musical group hits their real true peak in all their spectrums in the very last time they're together that way we walk album was a culmination of 30 years of work and progress for these musicians It's truly unbelievable to watch masters at work to think of the number of hits they had after the first half of the career and the sheer volume of songs that we're in the top 40 and a 10-year period of time is mind-numbing in today's musical world. These guys are putting out one or two albums a year for almost a decade between 1977 and '87 either as a group or solos Genesis has a a unappreciated but momentous impact from literally creating the drum sounds of the '80s to multiple hits and television soundtracks they were the driving force. Plus the fact that most of them had produced multiple other albums for other artists makes their impact huge.

My musical history with Genesis started with Trick of the Tail. Genesis, whatever the musical genre, were professional musicians who played in sympathy with one another and for me, in concert, produced a quality performance that few have matched. The addition of Bill Bruforrd and later Chester Thompson added to the strength of the performance. Gold quality. PS Peter Gabriel and Steve Hacket perform in their own right as excellent musicians. They all-came from an era of exceptional musical creativity which is why their playing and musical ability still endures

I thought this was just an incredible performance of the Old Medley when it came out, and even today, I still think it is. The 70s were long gone when they did this, and they were older, but still able to capture some kind of magic that evoked both the old and the new at the same time.
@Paraguayanguy334 роки тому
Yes, I think because they did it more rock and opera oriented, also combined four or five songs into one, that was also a bold move, by the early nineties the songs became 3 minutes long, the progressive 70s rock, 12, 15 minutes were long gone, but to do it that way was a great decision.

Been a Genesis fan for so long now, they are deeply ingrained into my musical life! I always felt that the album, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, is possibly the best ProgRock album of all-time, and I absolutely LOVE Gabriel Era as well as Phil Era Genesis. They both had their time and sounds, and were unique in the musical world! This Medley, along with a few others through the Genesis Tour Years are just simply masterpieces! One of my most favorite moments is on the Genesis When In Rome Tour 2007, when they play a similar kind of medley of Firth of Fifth/I Know What I Like, and Daryl Stuermer does the famous guitar riff, and then the crowd, some 300,000+ strong, joins in, Phil turns the mic around, and the whole place is pulsing with that wonderful song! I get goose bumps every time I see/hear that moment! Just amazing! I love Genesis, love their music, and I don't CARE if people out there have issues with Peter leaving, as well as Hackett, but they left on their own accords, and Genesis went on without them. For better or worse, Genesis made music and I enjoyed so much of it!

This whole tour was apparently a fairly negative experience for Collins as stated in his biography and also picked up on in Rutherford's biography.
