It’s time for another awesome EV range test!
We’ve pulled together six of the latest & greatest all-electric cars to drive them straight North from London to see just how accurate their claimed ranges are. But we won't be stopping when the range hits 0... We'll keep driving them until they come to a complete standstill, to see just what happens!
So what do we have in the line-up? Well, we’ve gone for range-topping editions of all cars, apart from the first car Mat’s in - the Mustang Mach-E. Sadly, we could only get our hands on the entry-level version for this video. However, everything else in the line-up is top-of-the-range! And what a line-up it is...
Audi Q4 e-tron
Skoda Enyaq
BMW iX3
Hyundai IONIQ 5
Kia EV6
So which do you think will go the furthest? You’ll have to keep watching to find out!

Why would the peripheral systems in _any_ EV lose function when the traction battery is depleted? Accessories and power monitoring should be run off the 12 volt lead-acid battery, right? And that shouldn't be drained by the motor at all.

Great video! I have run my 2019 Ioniq with a small 28 kwh battery out so I knew the feelings/emotions you were experiencing. There are methods to gain range such as eco mode and cutting the extra power eaters like heater, accessories and lights (daylight) so I can imagine 10 or more additional miles might be quite possible

I think that Hyundai is awesome looking and I reckon that Kia really stands out, but not so much in red. The interior in both the Hyundai and especially the Kia are miles ahead of so many other electric cars. I absolutely hate the vertical tablet type screens, and the Kia having physical controls for climate control is a must
@blahorgaslisk7763
@blahorgaslisk7763 2 роки тому
Personally I think the Hyundai looks like something a kid would have drawn back in the 90's or very early 2000 if asked what cars in the future would look like. The "digital" design he talked about in the video just looks dated to me, and in a few years it will just look even more out of touch with good design. But then that might just be me showing my age. But I do think that a sign of good design is if something still looks relevant in a decade or two, and designs like the Hyundai tends to age badly. But the inside is pretty nice looking, though I can only talk about what I saw. Physical controls will always be better than touch screens. It's all about the tactile feedback. You don't have to take your eyes off the road as you can feel the controls. Levers and sliders for things like climate controls are a good design that allows you to feel what the settings are. Again, any design that allows the driver to keep the eyes on the road is to be preferred. Touch screens are good for navigation and possibly radio and phone use, but the problem is that the interface is changing depending on the module that's up front so you have to take your eyes off the road to see what it currently is showing. The buttons and controls also move depending on the active module and there is no way you can feel for them but you more or less have to watch that screen when manipulating the controls.

To think that 2 years ago was the first long range test of electric cars and the cars struggled to get to the 200 mile mark but now, we're eeking towards 300 miles on single charges. It just shows the pace of innovation in EVs, to make them both more efficient at using energy but also more affordable batteries. The BMW iX3 for me really stood out. It's probably the boxiest of the lot and isn't built on a pure EV platform, but managed to go almost as far as the Enyaq and Kia, at an impressive 3.6 mi/kwh. ...in comes the Model Y and beats all this lot.
