@@DZ-1987 Popularity isn't what makes it not scary, it's desensitization. The more horror content one exposes oneself to, the less it affects them. It's literally the same thing that happens when most people are creeped out by dead bodies, but morticians become acclimated to them and no longer experience that feeling. Basic psychology. Repeated exposure to the same stimuli ultimately results in that stimuli becoming less stimulating. If you really think popularity of horror is what makes it not scary, you're just a hipster.

@@freedantheeternal Joy, i've encounterd one of those proof insulters. A joyous day indeed. There is bias in my words, aye. But you can't discount popularity as a factor, can you? Can't get desensitised if you've no reason to keep coming back to it. In terms of media, that reason could be popularity, the quality of the thing in particular, or some form of dare or commitment. Many more too i bet, but none comes to mind at the moment. In my experience, once something gets popular, it loses meaning, and therefore the thrill of what it was meant to be. Five Nights at Freddy's, Slenderman, SCP, creepypasta. We've heard of all of those back in the day, but have now faded into obscurity. Their popularity was their downfall. Some vestiges yet live, aye. But the masses will scarecly ackowledge them. With the exception of FNAF and SCP, for now. A hipster. I suppose if the definition of a hipster is simply somone who dislikes popular things, but warms up to them after a while, perhaps once the normies have moved on, then yes, i am a hipster.

Also good example, the "i liked it before it was popular" hipster, who then hates it because it became popular. And "proof insulter?" Your entire argument is "if it's popular it has no meaning." How about you go read up on the basic psychology of stimuli and exposure I mentioned and you might actually learn something about human nature, instead of your personal bias of "people like this, therefore it's bad." Seriously, I have more respect for people who at least acknowledge it's possible to like something while not wanting to be part of the "main" fanbase. You know, like the FNaF fans that obsess over the franchise to unhealthy degrees.
