Mike's always acknowledgded that he would have been a nobody, if it wasn't for the fighters who paved the way for him. And obviously the people who directly facilitated his career like Cus and Jim Jacobs. As you say, he truly loves and respects guys like Sugar Ray. Unlike Floyd, a guy like Mike would never claim (today at least) that he was a better fighter than his idols. He might be, but he would never say that. And that's the difference between a man like Mike and a 40 year old child like Floyd. Just to add, Floyd has my full respect as a professional athlete, he is absolutely one of the very best, but I detest his personality and his narcissistic tendencies.

@@kfone1 Dude. Mike Tyson treated women like shit for many years, but the more you know about his rape case, the more it becomes obvious that he never forced himself on Desiree Washington. The number one burden of proof being the fact that she had already falsely accused somebody of rape once before, because her father was an abusive maniac and she didn't want him to know that she'd willingly had sex with him before marriage. Also, that guy was her boyfriend at the time.

I had once talked to Hagler who stated the hardest hitting fighter was Lamont Lovelady. Lamont was a very modest person after his boxing career. He stated he hit Hagler so hard he broke his hand on him. And Hagler gave Lamont that credit. Lamont was never the same fighter after the Hagler fight, but he became a plumber and a Des Moines firefighter and was as gentle as they get. It was not uncommon to see him running every morning before and after work. 13 years older than me and he still worked circles around me in his 60’s.

When Hagler and Sugar Ray fought Lenard was warned more than twenty times by referee to stop holding during the fight. The fight was a split decision going to Lenard, but he never had a point taken away for holding. If he had Hagler would have won. Lenard won the fight only because the corrupt powers that be wanted him too so they could have a rematch, but Hagler didn't want anything to do with it and retired.
@fernieg1410
@fernieg1410 8 місяців тому
I don't know what fight you saw but that is not the way that hagler Leonard fight went. That fight was a dog fight all the way through and Leonard won it by unanimous decision! That was not a split decision. It was unanimous. He literally beat the crap out of haggler when nobody thought he could. Go back into your history banks and pull out the video. You are sadly sadly sadly confused that fight was not as close as people thought sugar Ray Leonard dominated!
@fernieg1410
@fernieg1410 8 місяців тому
Wow! I read your comment again and you are obviously a sugar. Ray Leonard hater because you are wrong on another front as well, it was hegler not Leonard who was being called a lot and warned about holding Leonard. Hagler was stronger, but even towards the end of both of the careers landed was still way way faster and the other way hagler to get in to get a hard punch. What's the hold him you really have got the stop telling lies like this or at least in your head. You think they're true. I was literally at that fight with four family members. So don't tell me that what you're telling people on here is correct because you are dead wrong!!! People like you need to stay away from making comments online because that is just so wrong. If you want to hate a fighter fine but don't make up stories that are not true!
@fernieg1410
@fernieg1410 8 місяців тому
I don't know what fight Geo man saw but he is dead wrong. I was at that fight with four family members and I will tell you that it was hagler, not Leonard, who was being warned about holding. Of their career and all the hagler was stronger. Leonard was still the much faster and much more skilled fighter and Leonard absolutely dominated that fight when no one thought he would have there anyone on. Here the challenge and go back and watch the fight again. Leonard won by unanimous decision. It was not a split decision. It was not close. No one could believe that hagler could not knock out. Leonard Leonard wanted unanimously I repeat over and over again. It was not a battle for a couple of rounds. It looked close but Leonard ran away with that fight very easily. So Mr. Geo man stop telling lies and making up stories that are not true just because you don't like a certain athlete or boxer!
@fernieg1410
@fernieg1410 8 місяців тому
I read your comment Mr g old man one more time because I keep finding so many failures in there that you obviously don't have a clue about anything dealing with boxing because you said that Leonard never lost any points for holding?? Get educated because they do not take points away for holding ever in boxing! When someone holds. Only thing referee does is wait to see how long they're going to hold on and then he separates them and tells him not to hold which even saying that to the boxers is also very rare. Points are never ever supposed to be taking away for holding Jesus Christ. How can you be on here? Commenting?
@fernieg1410
@fernieg1410 8 місяців тому
M I'm sorry that I cannot stop commenting because so many things you said are so wrong. I just replayed the fight very quickly and that was barely any holding in that fight at all. It was a clean fight and hagley gave him a run for it during the middle around but overall cigarette lantern dominated. I will not say that enough sugar lander dominate the fight. Hagler had no speed. He only had power and both guys are bruised up which coincidentally nobody and I mean absolutely nobody in the history of hagler's career ever gave that guy and not on his eye like Leonard Dave to him. But he also gave Leonard a pretty nice shiner as well

WOOO love it, spicy and controversial but hard to argue against. My one and two are Tyson and Hagler, depends on my mood. Watching anyone try to punch Hagler was like watching someone try to punch a bronze statue, dude just never gave an inch and his style was insane, stepping into southpaw and back into orthodox with a one-two cross combo that NO ONE else has. Meanwhile I think 1988 Mike Tyson beats everyone in history. Literally, put your best Mongol wrestler or baddest Wudan monk ever, Tyson is knocking that fool into the sky. P.S. I also want to say, seeing Tyson emotional credit Leonard as source of deep, personal inspiration, while holding an unlit joint in his hand, it makes me grateful to have lived to see these times.

Excellent choice of fighters.Even without Muhammad Ali who inspired some of the greatest of these fighters.Hagler,Hearns,Tyson,Spinks,Leonard it’s just amazing the standards they set.How tough was Marvin Hagler,How powerful was Thomas Hearns,How fast was Sugar Ray Leonard,how potent,and capable was Tyson,a complete package.It was particularly moving to hear Mike Tyson talk about Sugar Ray Leonard,especially with Leonard there. It was a nice little touch to have Errol Spence acknowledge Sugar Ray Leonard right at the very end.

My dad was obsessed with Mike Tyson and I first watched him in 1990 when I was a little kid he’s my absolute favorite athlete and when I became a boxer, my father made sure the damato shift technique was all i trained and 37 today and I still train it and I train some boys in it too. It’s the most effective boxing technique besides, the philly shell guys under 6 feet can put tall guys on the ground with ease. On April 17, 2012 I got to hang out with Mike Tyson at an event. With my dad, we went backstage. We ended up having a 30 minute conversation with him. He was so humble and awesome. I was starstruck when he asked me to see what I got my legs were frozen for a minute, but he did grab my hand and say I have gigantic hands for my size, that its probably where my knockout power comes from. My smile was ear to ear That was the coolest birthday of my dad’s I shared with him. Rip dad
