Back in 2015 - 2016 I would speak to Julian Via emails in which we would talk in depth about punch power and some of the things he did to maximise his Knockout Power. He explained that he always had Naturally heavy hands and his first Coach who he refers to as Willy taught him how to use these heavy hands through boxing Technique... Julian talked alot about Balance and Core strength with Timing was what made him so effective when throwing bombs. A secret he spoke about he referred to as " Rooting " Where you train your toes to Curl down when momentarily bracing yourself to throw a punch.. He says when you Curl the toes down and grip the floor you can feel every muscle in the body Rip into a punch... Balance was something he said was extremely important if you want to punch with maximum leverage you need solid planted balance... Jack Blackburn taught Joe Lewis the same secret about the " Rooting " Julian said he never touched weights only pull ups and push ups with Abdominal exercises. In the gym he worked on Speed and Timing... Even using the heavybag he always focussed on speed because his power was so natural. As a teenager he would work on fishing boats and had to Reel in large heavy nets full of fish which he said strenghened his shoulders and Back Muscles which he believed had something to do with his power.
@KryptonitetoallBS3 місяці тому
Working on those fishing boats would have been great for his shoulders and back muscles but if he didn't continue to work those shoulder and back muscles their strength would have returned to how he was before he did any fishing! He had a great build....naturally.......I've seen it myself. You can work all day on your physique, but the single most important ingredient of your build is what you were given by nature!!

Pullups would keep that strength in his back I think@@KryptonitetoallBS

While I enjoyed watching him fight during his heyday an objective review of his record is in order. His resume falls well short of Hagler,Hearns type of record. He carefully avoided Roy Jones as well. Although many say Jones avoided him. Also Mike McCallum knocked him out in 2 rounds. This was after the first round in which Jackson hit him with everything. I shudder to think of what a prime Hagler or Hearns would have done to him. Jackson was powerful and impressive but he was knocked out twice in his prime.
@alexanderredhorse12972 роки тому
probably because most "champions" are fabricated. there are so many incredible warriors out there who are practically nameless because big business simply just overlooks them. they are fearsome fighters but that wont necessarily equate to fame. fame is being good, but also getting the corporate backing, signing deals, and sort of becoming a brand of your own. but you need lots of capital for that.

Their battles in the ring were legendary! Gerald obviously was not a "defense 1st" type of fighter and he took alot of punches over his career but the way Benn was teeing off on him that night is quite scary, imo. Really fkn sad. I realize it's a part of the sports but I can't help feeling that way about the man. 😭 I wish boxing would help that man out bcuz he's broke (because of the medical bills over the years) and his sisters and children are struggling financially. This Jackson guy was always overlooked whenever people talked about great power punchers and KO artists of that era. In my opinion, pound for pound, Julian Jackson and Mike Tyson had the most devastating fists of the 80's. Watching their KO reels seemed surreal. It was kind of like watching a movie. For example, the Rocky franchise. It was like watching Tommy Gunn, Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago's scripted knock outs.
