There are 6-wire versions that have power, data & CC for higher power, so either QC or PD. You can also get 4-wire ones (ie power & data as per USB2). Won't get you PD, but will get you QC. I've seen some sellers claim the 4-wire connectors have CC, but I'm not sure about that.

For Andersen power connectors, grab a tube of zinc (dielectric) grease and give the sliding connections a good swab with it. They tend to oxidize if left alone with voltage on them for a long time, and the grease helps immensely. If you can't use the grease, disconnect and reconnect them a couple times every other week or so to scrape any oxidation away from the connection points.

Some years ago I bought a few exactly the same looking ones from a brand Daygreen. Mainly plastic ones with big screw terminals for smaller currents but also a few for higher current that looked identical. I found them very reliable and also able to handle the max rated current with a stable voltage. Nowadays they seem to have raised the prices and these RC Nun branded ones seem more affordable. Great to hear you've found them reliable as well since I've been weary of their quality due to lower price. The name doesnt exactly sound very professional either. It seems common for these brands to pick seemingly random Western words for their brands. Good example are those common relabeled "Liitokala" Li-Ion batteries. In Finnish "liitokala" translates to "flying fish".
@AndreasSpiess

Hi Andreas! Great info in this video as usual from you! I was intrigued by the power meter issue and tried to find other mentions of it and could not find any. Still in the videos I've watched it always seems that a battery is used and that got me thinking that it might be an issue with noise from the power supply not been filtered correctly by the meter current sensing circuit. Also, it might worth updating the firmware on the meter.
@AndreasSpiess

I do not think so. My power supply is pretty clean. Did the other videos to the same measurements at higher voltages (the effect is small at 12V)? Then my device would be defective.

@AndreasSpiess
@AndreasSpiess 5 місяців тому
I do not know what specifications this application needs. Using a 13.8V converter for a 12V battery seems to be ok for trickle charging. But I do not know where you would get DC input voltage from. The battery has to be disconnected from the victron for that purpose. BTW.
@mcprins

Could it be that the power meter is using a Hall Effect sensor to measure currents? If so, then you should be able to see quite an offset when approaching it with a magnet.
@AndreasSpiess
@AndreasSpiess 5 місяців тому
I do not think so. It would not make a lot of sense because there is no need for insulation. It even looks like they use a high side mesurement that has a big common mode error (the current error goes up with voltage). That would not happen with a hall sensor.
@TD-er
@TD-er 5 місяців тому
@@AndreasSpiess I can imagine they need internally some buck/boost converter to power the internals of the meter itself. Then they need some form of isolation. If they don't, then you need quite a high resolution A/D conversion even when you would use an opamp to amplify the voltage measured by the Kelvin connection on the shunt. Such a setup would indeed result in quite a big common mode error. But on your video it looks more like a "DC-offset", which is quite common for Hall effect sensors. Or could it be that they used completely different metals and thus create some thermo-couple effect which can add a significant offset related to the low voltages over the shunt?

GPS is from USA, yes it has become a synonym to navigation system. But it is GNSS module from U-blox. @@AndreasSpiess

Centimeter precision? No, I don't believe it. You will have to create a 5x5 meter grid, with points on each coordinate to prove it to me. Difficult.

A university in GA was getting cm resolution from differential GPS about 2 decades ago. If this doesn't use that technology then I'm impressed with the accuracy claim.

You're pretty demanding to suggest that a guy giving you content for free set out to prove that a datasheet isn't lying. How about you do it instead and prove them wrong.

Consider replacing the term "Chinese factor" mentioned at 6:45, with a neutral term like "Derated Current Maximum".

Someone decided to "standardize" (as if they had the right to do so) on Anderson Power Pole connectors for Ham radio. Very poor choice and thus a very bad decision. I think I'll order-up some XT60s, LOL !!

I am happy with the Andersons for my HAM gear. But you need a big crimper ;-)
