A bike computer, or head unit, is one of the most important bits of equipment for cyclists. It can show maps, power data, heart rate, elevation and loads more, helping inform and improve your riding. But what do top pros have showing on theirs? Si got hold of former world champion Mads Pedersen’s head unit and asked Adam Yates what’s on his Wahoo!

What do you have on your bike computer? 🧐
@MTBScotland
@MTBScotland 9 місяців тому
distance, clock, elapsed time, speed, 3s power, average power, cadence, HR (large size). use the HR to keep within my limits (never happens lol) same display for MTB and Road. I don't maps very often and I just tend to ride rather than following a route. If I do a route I have the map uploaded so I can have the climb data. The climb feature is handy for doing munros on my bike.

I think bringing a trainer onto GCN to talk about how amateur riders could benefit most from the different types of data on their computers could be really helpful. I’m not at all surprised, personally I use it the same way. I've had a few head units over the years and one thing that is very very important to me now is serviceability, warranty and parts availability. People spend big money on a phone and expect prompt warranty service if need be and parts availability post warranty. I've had a unit go(USB port went)and I couldn't get parts post warranty. Also because that some head units have to returned to another foreign location for warranty at the owners cost. One thing I'll say for Garmin is there's lots of aftermarket and genuine parts from cases, screens and batteries for reasonable costs.

I was a huge fan of wahoo, until I realized how rubbish the altimeter was. Garmin units are leagues better and far more accurate.
@glharlor
@glharlor 9 місяців тому
@@RobertTarmac maybe it isn't accurate, but when I go up a hill at least it tracks it. I don't ride in the hilliest places, but the wahoo wouldn't budge on many many hills. I can say without a doubt wahoo doesnt do any better, and feels much worse to me. My Garmin is very consistent on my daily rides, as was my wahoo, just wildly different numbers

All the great riders didnt need a computer to tell them how to ride. They just pedaled.🤷‍♂️
@simonrichardson5259

That’s because no one had computers. As soon as they were invented the top riders started using them because they could see the clear benefits. Merckx would 100% have used a headunit.

Oofff... Seeing these wahoo screens make me appreciate my Garmin 😢
@JMR_GER
@JMR_GER 9 місяців тому
The reason for those screens are the better readability in every condition, even when the sun is shining on it. I know it looks like calculator, but its great for racing. (Wahoo Roam V1 and Garmin Edge 530 Owner)
@BadTanLines
@BadTanLines 9 місяців тому
I can read my screen fine on my edge 1040. I more mean the HUGE bezels and the lack of touch in the Bolt and the fact that he can’t just touch it to see the temperature, you gotta put it on as a data field. The V2 version of the bolt and the roams were a real disappointment. - Former Wahoo User
