It's that time of year again when the Aussie magpies are nesting, or mating, or just being nasty to anything within a few hundred meters of their nests. They'll swoop without provocation targeting cyclists, pedestrians, even other animals if they think they're a threat. There's a few theories about how to avoid being swooped from using goggly eyes or zip ties on your helmet to offering them mince meat. Thankfully the star of this show isn't making head contact just yet!

Helmet Mount: I'm using a basic GoPro clip in mount on the Livall BH60SE Smart Helmet that I've zip tied on very securely. Not something I want to do on my newer helmets at this point. Here's the kit I used to build the mount: amzn.to/36uGZ2C

Six Tips for Dealing with Swooping Magpies:
1 - If you're in a group, don't ride at the back. Let someone else take the hit! :)
2 - Cover your ears - They love a good ear scratch.
3 - Cover your neck - Another scratch zone.
4 - Sunglasses - Although they almost always attack from behind. Protect them anyway.
6 - Make eye contact - They won't swoop or come too close if you're looking at them.
6 - Raise a hand - That's usually all it'll take to keep them off your back, literally.
