The only entity that can stop this practice is Porsche themselves. If they weren't asking such a ridiculous markup on head lamp units this wouldn't be happening. All Porsche have to do as well as other manufacturers is simply give up the Greedy practice and let the lights go out at cost value. Same deal here. The police only exist to protect property owners. "Property" in the economic sense, as in businesses and the means of production. So, billionaires is what that means. The only way police will recover stolen personal property for an individual is if that property was in the possession of someone they were already arresting anyway. I've had to recover my own stolen shit a few times. It's satisfying but risky. I put a GPS tracker on my last bike, and it was stolen. I had the precise location of the bike, pictures of it and the degen that stole it, and the police still told me to get lost. I had to get my hands dirty to get it back.

@@lokibrux You have a DC power source in the car but a AC source in your farm. So how could you use the same ballast electronics? And getting or building dedicated heat sinks for your grow lamps is much easier than stealing a car headlight plus ripping it apart. That story is just an old urban myth.

This all also wouldn't be a thing if the UK gave up on its war on cannabis. People could operate marijuana farms safely and legally, and get taxed on its sale to improve public services like the NHS.

You mean doubles. Premiums on my RS6 and GT4 have more than doubled. I'm fortunate, as I can afford it, but a lot of people will struggle and guess what, they'll just not bother to insure their cars and... premiums will go up further. EVs also pushing all our premiums up - pal of mine hit a speed bump with his Tesla, insurance company wrote it off! Car was 3 months old, worth £60k. Go figure.

1st world problems lol Buy a brand new car with all the bells and whistles, tech, LEDs etc. and then complain that all that complicated tech isn't as easily repairable or replaceable by the average person. Generally, if someone has the money to get such expensive and tech-riddled cars, they're probably not a mechanic... not that I can see any youngens today actually replacing a bulb, or servicing their car even if it is easy. A car doesn't have to be BRAND NEW 2023 onwards to be a nice car to own and drive, people just don't look very hard and the manufacturers bait people in with finance usually. The best solution, however, is to cut thieves hands off. They won't steal, people won't have to claim as often, premiums should get a bit better.

@@dzonikg Oh, I agree! But unless another idea is found that makes this much sense and is as effective as what Apple is doing, they are who the auto makers are looking at right now. Think if you had a Taycan and had both your $2-6000 Matrix LED lights stolen... If the part were serialized to the car then nothing they stole would ever work on any other Taycan because the serials and VIN don't match and the only way to correct the problem and make the part light up is to have it authenticated as a real part by the dealership. Except this part already is serialized to another purchased vehicle and they will not reprogram the firmware in the lighting controller to the updated Serial/VIN because it's recognized as stolen now. The only way would be if they were identified stolen, contacted the original purchaser by phone to ask why there's a headlight at their dealership trying to be re-flashed and if there's been a theft. In that instance they hold the lights, call the owner and insurance company then the police. On high end vehicles I see owners actually paying extra for this.

Depends where you live & park it at night. For me RR insurance is fairly reasonable & not an issue.

Hopefully wont be long before headlights are vin programed to individual cars........here's a hope ha?
