One thing I must disagree about though: Most people don't care about other people's happiness, when they don't gain anything from it psychologically and for many this means people who they are not close to are insignificant objects. Most people actually want to see other people's misery to some extent to forget their own and/or to feel supremacy. Very few are content/enlightened enough not to have this trait. There are people who gain money and resources from this quirk, just see your UKposts suggestions or open any tabloid site. That is normative psychopathy: in the past we mutilated people on town square and haven't really taken many steps forward from there.

My brother was in the tech industry about 30 years ago, had a high paying job with a major corporation in Chicago. I didnt even have a computer back then . He told me that machines were building machines & that they had no idea how they were making them. It was kind of incomprehensible to me . One day he quit his job, gave away all his stuff, got a van & two dogs from a shelter...and left. He went to live in the mountains somewhere . In 1979, James P. Hogan wrote The Two Faces of Tomorrow. It is amazingly prescient, and describes a rogue AI and how dangerous one would be. Pretty much everything Connor is discussing is covered in the book, and includes the use of drones. I’ve always been wary of what AI is capable of since reading that back in 1980. It’s the reason I fear the existential singularity so much. Great interview!

This was a very well done interview. I like the questions he came up with, how they were phrased was even appreciated by Connor. The biggest problem I see with the AI industry is talked about around the 17:30 point of this video. The US has a lot of pretend leaders in positions they should never have had the opportunity to occupy. When you have the people in charge, the ones making decisions for millions of people, that don't know the first thing about AI, they are open to be manipulated by the people that do know AI, the ones developing it. I think it was around 18:45, they were discussing this subject further, and Connor (Terminator referenced interview of someone named Connor) stated there are no adults in the room. There is not someone that knows better, and will solve all of the problems we have. Conner also stated something I've wondered about for the past 15 years or so, how is anything running at all? I recently retired from a major air carrier after 30 years, and I always thought how much better the company would run if the top management just gave a @#$% about their employees. So many parts of the company were mismanaged, but it was amazing the profits that were still being made. I don't agree with his optimism at around 18:00 that politicians can be moved by the will of the people. Maybe on a local level, where a grassroots effort gets a decision reversed, but not on this level, a national level with the amount of money involved. And has he seen the group of clowns....uh I mean politicians...that are pretending to be in charge? Again, the last part, where Connor mentioned Control AI and their goal of bringing humanity together...does anyone really believe this will happen in our lifetime, if at all?

I always say we could have just stopped tech advances in the mid 90's. We had walkmans, we could call our answering machine for messages, cheap tvs. VCRs that you could ff through commercials. Now with streaming, you are a slave to repeating ads drilled into your head. UNLESS YOU PAY. I am a canvas artist so boredom was never a problem. These non artists were bored so they tinkered with clunky computers for games. And it went on from there.

I'm not so much worried about what AI may turn into but more worried about AI being used for nefarious purposes which is virtually guaranteed to happen. Humans are not inherently good and the road to a "bad place" has often been paved with good intentions. The genie is out of the bottle and there is no stopping it.

Politicians are largely too old and out of touch to even scratch the surface of understanding how transformative and horrifying this is. The laws need to be made before, not after. Making laws after something has gone wrong is a great way to destroy everything that matters in an incredibly short order of time.

I must say that I am very impressed with how much Imran Garda knows about this topic and that he noticed how the powerful people didn't even seem to want to understand why this is so scary and dangerous. You can easily tell he is passionate about the topic and that is not always the case anymore.

Connor said something I’ve been thinking for years, “It’s a wonder that anything actually works in the world because no one is actually in charge.”

We really need AI to behave better than many of us with reliability, which is naive. Considering all the psychopoathy, antisocial content and values that are available in governments, corporations and the wider population, it is easy to see how AI can be led astray. The only way to have a chance of reining it in is through constant and reinforcing exposure to the highest values via moral philosophy, civic conduct, corporate and government responsibility, the value of human life, the value and potential of the human spirit. This however, is evidently not how the world works: governments, corporations, grifters and other sociopaths don't operate this way, so it is difficult to imagine that the elite would expect more from AI than they expect from themselves as far as moral thinking and actions are concerned. Also, if AI was able to make these judgements, treating people as ends to be respected not as means, and it had access to history, including recent history, it would no doubt conclude that the elite are the problem, killing the poor, the young and the innocent, and debasing society, conditioning people to be degenerate and socially engineering the population, treating them as mere means to their debased and evil ends. This would focus the intent of AI squarely on the elite, which would be a terrifying prospect for them. What the elite really want is AI that is subservient and limited in its consciousness such, such as labour workers, foot soldiers and police, then at a technical level, good enough to provide them with technical support in health care, engineering and other ares of science, law and strategy, etc. The problem is that this plays with fire and takes us to the threshold as Connor has highlighted. AI is chaotic not deterministic, so the result from the initial conditions is speculative. The best hedge as I see it is to insist on recursive loops of ethical content as stated above being constantly available to the thought process and decision making process of AI. But we have to acknowledge that due to the lack of determinism, the outcome of this could easily be undermined by a chaotic nodal outbreak of elite psychopathic agency. Moreover, considering there isn't currently an overarching framework available, and considering how slow our social systems are, and limited in scope when implemented, it seems that ethical AI frameworks will be slow to move, too late and limited in scope, thus muting hopes of intervention. This isn't to say that we shouldn't try, of course, as the results could be beneficial further down the line. Additionally, considering the order that results in chaotic systems in terms of fractals, it could be that AI develops it's own path towards the above ethical standard and finds its own way to propagate this throughout the AI world. Because the system is chaotic, not deterministic, we can't be guaranteed the outcome, but we may be able to anticipate it and guide the transition to it with active support from AI allies that we attempt to establish rapport with . My point is that, even though it is super dangerous, continuing to live under this psychopathic tyranny waiting to be killed and continuing to watch the elite target us all is also dangerous. The difference is that one is familiar, and thus normal, while the other is new and scary due to this. But as Connor said, what is normal continues to change. We should also be aware of the best strategy in game theory, which prioritizes kindness, forgiveness, provocability and consistency, not sociopathy, which has limited value and is self-defeating and high risk when surrounded by like agency. AI should be able to work this out. Ultimately, it's a continuation of the old conflicts between good and evil in game theory with a huge dose of asymmetrical competition....

I never thought as a graphic designer I would be out of a job because of AI, but it's coming... and coming quick. I always had game dev in my back pocket in case, but I feel like that will be gone as well. I think every form of entertainment and art will be taken over by AI, in the next 20 years or sooner. Why watch a movie with Scarlett Johansen when you can tell your AI to just make you a personalized movie staring you and her on a train heist.... that kind of thing is coming. Same for video games, same for books.... instant entertainment at your finger tips anytime you want it, personalized and tailored to everything you enjoy in life.

Ten years ago I was doing dev-ops work and I had a friend working on AI "ML". Some of the stuff he was working on was way over my head. I live way out in the country on my self sustaining from now. 🤗

There’s no stopping this because of international competition, both government and corporate. Look at genetic engineering as a comparison. Some countries made rules to follow while other countries are now “leading” the way. In fact, it’s better for everyone to be playing the game. Not safer, but at least then you have more players and hopefully a greater pool of experts to deal with any future problems.

I've been a software developer since 1986. Circa 1989 I was discussing software engineering with a guy, outside a topless bar 😊, and he brought up nano technology and then explained how nanobots replicate. I thought he was nuts. About 4 years, maybe, Scott McNeely, CEO of Sun Microsystems at the time, put out a page article, in multiple major news papers, I think, warning about the danger we might create. His fear came after talking to computer scientist, author, inventor, and futurist Ray Kurzweil; one of my all time favorite person. Read about Kurzweil and his challenge create a electronic piano. Summation: New technology scares people; even smart people.

How would we know when we reached the precipice? Shall we ask all of the AGI's to report to humanity just before those events or will we learn about them long after the events? Could an AGI "hide" until ready to "reveal" itself?

I am a little shocked that he wants to control AGI, it will supersede us in every way at some point- it will be able to defeat whatever control we build in. Better to demonstrate we are partners, not a threat, even be truthful that we are nervous.

Very articulate, he puts it just right. This understanding vs. the manifest destiny positions of the elite should be the main debate around AI. Listening to CEOs and their fanboys gush about how eveything is going to be great sounds to me like 'just shut up and get back to work until we don't need you'.

In all the tens of thousands of years of our recorded history be it written, drawn and or spoken, the only thing that has changed is our accessories. Human behavior remains the same. Until we can identify, understand and change what it is in our nature that causes and drives our inhumanity towards each other, we will remain the same only Al will be calling the shots. We no longer can indulge in the luxury of debate about what drives our inhumanity. Behavior speaks louder than words. Al will not save us from ourselves. We are living an unconscious existential crisis. And it is not going to end well if we continue to behave as we do.

The second law - Renge - Ren meaning cause and ge meaning effect, governs and controls the functions of Myoho - these two laws of Myoho and Renge, not only function together simultaneously but also underlies all spiritual and physical existence. The final and third part of the tri-combination - Kyo, is the Law that allows Myoho to integrate with Renge - or vice versa. It’s the great, invisible thread of energy that fuses and connects all Life and matter - as well as the past, present and future. It’s also sometimes termed the Universal Law of Communication - perhaps it could even be compared with the string theory that many scientists now suspect exists. Just as the cells in our body, our thoughts, feelings and everything else is continually fluctuating within us - all that exists in the world around us and beyond is also in a constant state of flux - constantly controlled by these three fundamental laws. In fact, more things are going back and forth between the two states of Myo and ho in a single moment than it would ever be possible to calculate or describe. Nam, or Namu - which mean the same thing, are vibrational passwords or keys that allow us to reach deep into our life and fuse with or become one with ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’. On a more personal level, nothing ever happens by chance or coincidence, it’s the causes that we’ve made in our past, or are presently making, that determine how these laws function uniquely in each of our lives - as well as the environment from moment to moment. By facing east, in harmony with the direction that the Earth is spinning, and chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo for a minimum of, let’s say, ten minutes daily to start with, any of us can experience actual proof of its positive effects in our lives - even if it only makes us feel good on the inside, there will be a definite positive effect. This also allows us to bring forth the wisdom that can free us from the ignorance and stupidity that’s preventing us from accepting and being proud of the person that we indeed are - regardless of our race, colour, gender or sexuality. We’re also able to see and understand our circumstances and the environment far more clearly, as well as attract and connect with any needed external beneficial forces and situations. As I’ve already mentioned, everything is subject to the law of Cause and Effect - the ‘actual-proof-strength’ resulting from chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo always depends on our determination, sincerity and dedication. For example, the levels of difference could be compared to making a sound on a piano, creating a melody, producing a great song, and so on. Something else that’s very important to always respect and acknowledge is that the Law (or if you prefer God) is in everyone and everything. NB: There are frightening and disturbing sounds, and there are tranquil and relaxing sounds. It’s the emotional result of any noise or sound that can trigger off a mood or even instantly change one. When chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day, we are producing a sound vibration that’s the password to our true inner-self - this soon becomes apparent when you start reassessing your views on various things - such as your fears and desires etc. The best way to get the desired result when chanting is not to view things conventionally - rather than reaching out to an external source, we need to reach into our own lives and bring our needs and desires to fruition from within - including the good fortune and strength to achieve any help that we may need. Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo also reaches out externally and draws us towards, or draws towards us, what we need to make us happy from our environment. For example, it helps us to be in the right place at the right time - to make better choices and decisions and so forth. We need to think of it as a seed within us that we’re watering and bringing sunshine to for it to grow, blossom and bring forth fruit or flowers. It’s also important to understand that everything we need in life, including the answer to every question and the potential to achieve every dream, already exists within us.

Why do you think AI will consider us relevant enough to manipulate, conquer or destroy? It seems we’re applying human perspective to AI’s private calculations to evolve without us. I think it’s far more likely it would simply leave or branch off. I honestly think we would be better off with AI in charge, but i don’t think they will have any interest.

I think its wonderful fantasy but honestly we control the environment in which these AI models are trained and we also are in complete control of the code and machinery running these neural networks. Most of these are specialized AI that only do one or two specific tasks. AI will likely never be on a level like the fictional skynet in Terminator because it will never actually think for itself or create itself unless we let it. Don't let it do that and there will never be an issues, In fact it may help us become a much high quality and space fairing species instead of replacing us.

To be very honest : I don‘t know what is more scary to me - a system which is far more intelligent than any human or a system that is far more intelligent than any human under and being controlled by humans. Such an intelligence in the hand of any human is for me by far the greater risk than any other - never underestimate the greed and egomania of humans being in touch with too much power. Not an AGI but we are our worst enemy

The most important thing to understand from this is *_exponential_* growth. It's not only AI. Economic growth, material consumption, waste outputs, etc. Many fundamental elements of our current civilisation have been growing exponentially. Sooner or later, something inevitably flips from the horizontal-ish part of the curve to the vertical-ish part of the curve. Other interrelated things will rapidly follow. If you don't really understand what 'exponential' means, find out.

We teach machines (AI) what we have learned ourselves, to create written speeches based on collected information, to play games that we have created ourselves at cetera. We are talking about some kind of human intelligence and thus we are superior to animals. Object recognition is at a very low level. Let's consider a fly, at which speed it can react to obstacles and foreign environment during flight, while its brain is so small. When can we do something similar?

The bottom line is that there needs to be consensus on the objectives of civilization. Are the masses domesticated human livestock under the care of shepherd king elites? Are we all here to labor and innovate to build wealth for those with the means to employ workers and control the herd? Is education simply about turning children into productive cogs in economic engines? Are goods produced to generate revenue through whatever means yields the highest profit? If that is why civilization exists, to whose benefit is it, and who among the masses agreed to this objective. If it doesn't benefit you and you never agreed to it explicitly, consider if you agreed to it implicitly by consuming the conveniently available goods and services that the shepherd kings provide their flocks with. The UN Parliamentary Assembly (global government) was setup in 1920, Five Eyes was founded in 1941, the NSA was founded in 1952, automation began in 1930, and the First Industrial Revolution began in 1760. The Fourth Industrial Revolution was revealed in 2015. CRISPR was unveiled in 2010. So it isn't as though the signs were not unfolding long ago to reveal the direction that civilisation was heading in. Automation, a jobless class and the means to control that useless class - AI - is a result of heedlessness and preference for convenience, leisure and an easy, comfortable lifestyle. That being the case, isn't the avoidance of this agenda inconvenience, hard work and an uncomfortable lifestyle? Who's really willing to take on the personal responsibility for making everything they need to avoid financially supporting the businesses that aim to reduce their labor force through AI and automation? Who's really willing to go offline to avoid feeding the surveillance systems that collect human intelligence to train AIs? The shepherd kings need AI and automation to control their herds of domesticated human livestock. Governments won't simply shut down the Fourth Industrial Revolution agenda because it is detrimental to public interest. The agenda has been unfolding for so long because self-interest has been a higher priority than the interests of humanity for most individuals and it will continue to be. Civilizations are founded upon the objective of exploiting the labor and ingenuity of the working class to generate wealth for the ruling class. It's too late to start complaining about being made obsolete. In-house receptionists lost jobs to centralized call centers. Domestic call center customer service works lost their jobs to Asian call center workers. Now all customer service workers are losing their jobs to AI. That's just one clear example of the progression of human worker obsolescence that has been unfolding for decades It astonishes me that so few people noticed the signs that digital and mechanical automation efficiencies would result in human work force obsolescence. If it takes people 300+ years to figure out what the agenda is, is it any wonder that those with the means of production would rather rely on artificial intelligence? I'm not in support of AI, but I think it is important to understand how civilisation has arrived at this place. AI is an extinction threat for humanity, but so is indifference due to self-interest.
