I was also thinking about the coffee smell while you were working on the lathe! The big question is "How well is the mug holding up?" Given that the beans weren't fully engulfed in resin at the top, I was wondering whether they started coming off.

I made something similar (different kind of bean) and yeah, they did start coming out. I'm guessing it was an effect of the moisture levels causing them to expand/contract when they weren't fully engulfed. I filled the gaps with UV resin for the ones that came out as I was turning, then coated the whole thing in a food safe polyurethane coating. It's only been a few weeks but it's held up well so far.

2:29 Is it possible to make small squares of the raisin before using that process? Because then you could've closed the container off to make everything more aligned with the bottom of the container, by putting something heavy on that square.

coffee and epoxy were irrationally spent, it would be possible to use a round mold for pouring and insert something round inside, as an option, you can make an airtight mold from plastic or use plastic bottles

Beautiful outcome 🥰 I love how natural forces can sometimes intervene and inspire you to take a direction you may not have otherwise considered 🤗 I think I would use this as a coffee caddy rather than to drink out of 🤔☕ Very creative and beautifully made. That shine is just spectacular 😊👍🏽

is there a reason you started with a square shape rather than a circular one? i would imagine you'd save material with a cylindar, but maybe there's some wood-turning/resin-working knowledge i don't have that is veryclear on what shapes work best and why! Im very curious about it ✨

Without pressure pot you can make little pour to avoid the bubble it took more time but it’s gonna be fine

Now let's say you wanted to finish the outside in resin. Should you paint it and let the lathe slowly spin or dip it and harden it in the pressure pot (not letting the inside steel get resined)?

Looks great!! I don't like coffee but I'd drink my sweet tea out of it lol I don't care for the taste of coffee but I love the smell of it! There is a Maxwell House that's been downtown for as long as I can remember and I love the smell when they are roasting Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up

i have a friend like you...doesn't like the taste but loves the smell. uses coffee as a car freshener so they can smell and it does a great job of absorbing odors.

I feel like this would have turned out neater if, after encasing the beans in resin, you put that into a slightly larger container and added more resin. Then you could turn the piece down to where you can just see thru the resin and see whole beans.
