I just upgraded to the P90 from the Lively aids I bought about 18 months ago, partially on the strength of this review. The Phonaks are miles ahead. Better auditory processing and - best of all - stellar Bluetooth connectivity. They don’t sound as good as my AirPods Pro, but they’re more than good enough. I was really lucky that my insurance company paid for them. It’s a shame that these are beyond the reach of most people, because for the first time - after three different attempts over the last decade - I am satisfied with my hearing aids. Thank you.

Hi Dan, I appreciated your reply here. I currently use some nice high end wireless earbuds. AirPods Pro, Sennheiser Momentum 3, and Bose QC. I may end up getting hearing aid mostly for tinniitus, and some hearing loss, but I am spoiled to having a good quality of music and I play guitar on our worship team at church each week. Do you have any thoughts on my situation, and are you still happy with your hearing aids?

I just received my ActiveVent tips and custom titanium ear-mold yesterday. This was the first time my Audiologist has fit them, so she didn’t know how to make any ActiveVent specific adjust. She used real ear measurement to adjust them, and we settle on a pretty good setup. With just one day use this is my initial feedback. (Audeo P90-R, iPhone 11 pro, iPad Pro 3rd gen) • The titanium molds are incredibly comfortable, small, discreet and snug. • The overall sound from ActiveVent tips is very good in the open and closed mode. • It does take a little getting used to when the vents open and close, and there is loud pop when it does, but Phonak support said my audiologist should be able to adjust the switching sound level. • Streaming music provides the best sound experience I've had with hearing aids. Very close to music specific earbuds, although still lacks some of the bass and mid-tones, but overall, it's a much richer and balanced experience. I found I was able to tweak the sound a bit under the streaming program, but unfortunately there is no way to save it to a custom program as far as I can tell, so it switches back to defaults after the hearing aids are reset or charged. • Streaming phone calls is also very good and much easier to hear and understand speech. • I tested them in a loud restaurant and thought the ActiveVent would automatically close the vent, but it doesn’t. I had to select Speech in load noise program for the vent to close. The default settings in Speech for load noise didn’t help much until I increased noise reduction to full then it worked really well. Definitely a different experience, but overall, I could understand those around me talking. When I spoke to Phonak they did indicate they should switch automatically in loud noise situations, so I'll have to work with my audiologist on that one. • I would like to see Phonak provide a hear-through adjustment to let the user set how much sound passes from outside while streaming, audio and music. Overall, I’m impressed with the ActiveVent and look forward to testing them in more situations. Too early to recommend them yet, but so far so good. I hope this provides helpful feedback for those thinking about trying ActiveVent.

@rongilpin9376
@rongilpin9376 Рік тому
@@JustHumblePerson The reliability has been quit good except for the rubber grommet that holds the ActiveVent receiver in the ear mold. The left one failed about 5 weeks ago and the right one failed a week ago. When they fail the receiver no longer is stable and you cannot use the hearing aid. My Audi ordered a new ear mold for the left which had the new grommet installed, so I had her order me just the grommets. I’m waiting for the grommets to get in so I can fix my right ear mold, but in the mean time I’m using my old receivers prior to the ActiveVent and I can definitely tell the sound quality deficit compared to the ActiveVents. The popping is still annoying when they open and close, but the streaming sound is amazing and worth the slight annoyance. I had also contacted Phonak customer support via email and received a response a couple days ago. They told me the grommets could not be ordered separately and the ear molds would have to be sent back to Phonak for repair. That obviously is not a good response and appears to be a disconnect in customer support since my Audi was able to order them. My take is Phonak has done a really poor job in rolling out the ActiveVent and not positioned to properly support, nor do they seem interested in how they are performing and what improvements could be made, so overall I can’t recommend, but if you decide to move forward then be sure to have a set of backup receivers and ear molds. Hope this helps.

Thanks to your detailed review of Active Vent, I Just switched from Oticon more to the Phonak, and there is a night and day difference for me. Love how the Phonaks cleanup the sound with active noise cancelling, something that was severely missing with the Oticons. Getting rid of the occlusion effect was fantastic, while streaming and noisy environments have become totally manageable. For the first time, I want to always wear my hearing aids and not take them out in frustration. Finally, I would like to see this technology someday with my JH audio in ear monitors with 10 drivers and a full band EQ AI to match each ear independently! Any thoughts on this? Hi Doctor Cliff, AuD, I trialed the ActiveVent receivers the first week they were available to my clinic. They were very interesting and I may have stuck with them, if it were not for the battery life problem. The activeVent receivers cut my battery life by 4 to 5 hours on the p90 rechargeable aids. When we switched back to my original receivers there were some issues getting the aids to save settings as well. I was wondering if you have experienced this yet?

Dr. Cliff, I got my P90s battery version a few weeks ago. I have fairly good low frequency hearing. -10 up to around 1 KHz. I love the Bluetooth streaming music from my phone but yes, the lows aren't there. At work since its slightly noisy anyway, I try to put some foam ear plugs in on top of my receivers. That sort of works. I'm not thinking I would want to go to the rechargeable version to get the Activent though. I love the size of these and I have to tell people I have hearing aids as they really have to look to see them. Any hints to help when I'm streaming music?

Very interesting. From the time my daughter was first fitted with a hearing aid - the ear mold did not have a vent. When we switched providers and hearing aid brands - which was from Oticon to Phonak - the ear molds have a vent. I have no idea what vent size or having the vent is actually best for my daughter. So this video is great - since it allows for flexibility. I wondered if it is possible for a TOD or Audiolgoiist not to know the difference between an air hole and the hole that the tubing goes into?

Quick story. I recently trialled the Phonak Paradise. I've been using open domes with all my hearing aids (bilateral hearing loss)) for the past fifteen years but, for this trial, my audiologist decided to go with a vented dome in my ear with the greater hearing loss. Result? I had trouble understanding what people standing only a few feet away were saying. I mentioned this to my audiologist and we agreed to try open domes for BOTH ears like I'd been used to, and suddenly everything was wonderful. According to my audiologist, a vented dome really should suit me given where I am now with my hearing loss but, for reasons she couldn't identify, it doesn't.

My question is not related to video but somewhat related to venting. I have no-venting occluded molds and I like them. I do adjust mold “to not snug” or “not firmly packed in”because it changes the sound and I’m not getting feedback whistle. My question, since condensation in tubing now is a concern as it shut the aid down and gave me a scare bc aids are only 3 months old- QUESTION: does having no-venting molds like I have cause more condensation in tubes? Now I know the trick to unscrew hook and carefully blow it out. I guess over 3 months the condensation built-up to the point it shut it down *I dry them every night in a perfect dry lux

Great comparison. The thing that’s sad is none of these features matter if the audiologist isn’t capable/knowledgeable with the product. I believe it’s time for manufacturers to require audiologists be trained with their products before being allowed to dispense them. Also the audiologists be required to have specific equipment and software in their practice in order to achieve maximum prescription targets for patients, making real ear measurements mandatory in fittings. Just like car dealerships are required to have certain equipment from manufacturers to perform maintenance services.

I notice that wehn I watch your videos, or watch TV using the Phonak TV Connector that I get improved streaming sound quality (better bass) if I merely put my index fingers up in my ear canal and manually close off the domes. But putting in LARGE closed domes is almost as bad as the Power Domes (I tried them to see what would happen) As it turns out, the vented Large Closed Domes do not leak any sound like the Medium Closed Domes and increase occlusion. I was looking for a way to get better music sounds, reduce tinny TV voices, and still talk to my wife and hear her well, without sounding like I was in a barrel

I know, right. The audiologist spoke to the rep and came back saying she would not buy these for her family member. They have no warranty. Recommend replacing every six months for many hundreds of dollars, said programming will not off a delay on the venting action when scrolling through media like I heard and I have to give back my original receivers that run $140 each when the vented fail. Too bad, I still want to try them. No check list was offered. I do have tinnitus, so why is that a problem. Massive expense. I doubt her or the rep have ever sold a pair. Sure would like to keep my original receivers.

I think earmolds and no vents are better because you can hear more sounds that way and I am not really concerned about how my hearing aids make the sounds sound like to me because I was only able to hear some sounds because of my hearing aids and never heard them at all before so I have no idea what they really are supposed to sound like. I know that I am hearing them differently than people who can hear without hearing aids because I have the most amplification possible but the sounds are not loud or anything like that and all at the same tone and all my amplification just makes me able to hear them so they could really be louder or softer to other people who are able to hear them without hearing aids but I only know what they sound like to me.

@@circotribecirco3366 I beleive this is a option that only Phonak offers on their Paradise rechargable model, I just watched Dr. Cliff's review of the Costco KS10 and he mentioned the active-vent feature as being unique to Phonak. In my case, I have high frequency loss, so the open vent would be ok for me, but not so great if I was to use the hearing aids for listening to music as well. In that case the low frequency sounds, or bass, might not be great, if I understand correctly.

Are hearing aid users really going ga-ga over rechargeable hearing aids, or only hearing care providers? I am really not happy with the idea. As everyone knows, rechargeable batteries only have a finite number of charge/discharge cycles before they start losing capacity. Putting these in a hearing aid essentially slaps an expiration date on the hearing aids. My current hearing aids are Phonak Naida S with replaceable batteries. They're already 7 years old, and I've taken great care of them, which is probably why they lasted so long. I don't think I could do this if they had rechargeable batteries. I'd have been forced to buy new hearing aids at least twice alredy during this time!
